@@empire0 It wasn't an issue to begin with either. I actually think it was mostly fabricated for pay-per-views. Or at least it got overhyped for that reason. And it paid off for Cruz (to hype his fight with TJ), for Uriah (getting a title fight), then later with Cody for his title fights lol. They made bank. This documentary even mentions how the how UFC made bank on it lol. For all we know Conor was told to say that crap to get the ball rolling lol.
Conner is a master of investigation. He understands that spending money to collect information is key to success in a world of criminality and corruption. He is an information broker. It is why he was able to secure so much money out of his storm years as a fighter. He never did anything without figuring out who to talk to and what to talk about. He is from Dublin! A tough guy in a city of tough guys in a brutal ecosystem. He is underestimated when it comes to his political genius and information is the key to his success.
Nah it was worth the drama because he was already beginning to be disliked at TAM because of the way he treated his teammates during sparring he ended a dudes career but because they were teammates and loyalty was important hence so many guys sticking up for him during the Conor call out, then it had to do more with Duane then TJ as well alpha male brought duane in to be a striking coach like how kavanaugh for Conor has Roddy do his striking stuff but kavanaugh is the head coach… Duane wanted to be a head coach and he started poaching guys from Team alpha male to make his own gym, and if you lure the champ to yours he clearly has other friends there that probably went with duane as well… so its more so the money aspect of Duane and TJ were stealing guys to make their own gym and thats fucked up, especially when TJ was telling them nah i am still on the team and training there and hurting guys at the gym.
@@henrycavillsrealmustache3553 nah wasn't that heavily fabricated? Like they skewed the story for drama initially saying it was why he retired, then years later it was re-clarified it wasn't why he retired? I think there was an element of truth to it, like there was genuine competition and a few remarks were made around business / the two camps. But eventually it turned into a full blown disinfo campaign and mental warfare, but I think it was mostly done for commercial reasons around this point once everyone realised they were making bank from it. It was pushed heavily by the UFC, UFC commentators, in every single interview, etc. Eventually everyone was jumping on the bandwagon, even people not associated with either camp, like Cruz. It was easily one of the biggest drama stories in UFC history, at least 4 title fights were based on this storyline. It's up there with the Conor bus incident for mass attention lol. Conor was involved again in this one btw at the start.
Jones criminal record is nothing lol people love to say he hit a pregnant woman with his car, which is party true, but he basically got in an accident by running a light and the woman happened to be pregnant, and her ending up being pregnant gave haters more than enough fuel to twist it and highlight the aspects of him that they specifically cherry picked to formulate their jealous/hateful view of things. We've all been in accidents, sure he was wrong there but its really not a big deal at all lol. "U didn't mention him "RUNNING away with a pile of CASH and DRUGS, leaving the pregnant woman and her unborn BABY to slowly perish!"--hater. He didn't know who was in the car, it wasnt the worst accident tho still very wrong, and it was weed lol
Botand Bakos-- that is truly the essence of the hater mentality perfectly illustrated in your comment. "Still, every win he has there's a foul in every fight"-or what ever aha Seriously though, winners focus on winning, losers focus on winners....I mean read ur comment twice its honestly sad to see how pathetic of an existence the mind stuck in this way would certainly provide.... No offense dude, I'm not saying ur a pathetic person, just that this way of thinking is literally pathetic, so it will infect ur mind. Put in work everyday on re wiring the way your thoughts are structured in different scenarios, to different people, emotions, etc. Analyze how u respond to things mentally like where ur thoughts tend to go in different circumstances and learn what the " whys" are. This process if followed will bring u to the edges of issues that need to be resolved and re imagined, and going near them will immediately push u away with negative feelings or thoughts, which are there to protect your reality essentially. Our subconscious does this for our egos to protect them from reality. The standard setup tends have tons of these in areas we least suspect even sometimes, and the reality we see or experience by the time pur conscious minds experience it, is delusional. Its normal. But work on this constantly, run towards the uncomfortable realizations and u will immediately gain am edge on most people. It effects every aspect of reality and ourselves. The difference it immediately makes is extraordinary even when u just start. Its not easy at all, that's why its not common at all. Most tend to structure their reality/ how they perceive it by finding ways to make it less hard to deal with which gets ppl in habits of bending truths or even ignoring them just to accept themselves. This over time makes most ppl mentally docile and lost. Up to you who u become. Its not easy at all and will alienate u at points but only some can handle and push through. Good luck brother
Another amazing thing about Cody, he was super loud and open, exposing TJ for wanting to split his camp between both Gyms. Instead of staying in the same place and being loyal with Alpha male.
oh yeah, and then two years later, (cody)decided he needed to split he's camp, and train between two different gyms after his losses. Training mostly at Mark Henry's gym.(before he got he's first win back) special kinda of dude,

Kinda wild to think that he has now retired and his career ended not with a bang, bit a fizzle. Regardless, he has an amazing story that is as much an inspiration as it is a warning. Thank you for your amazing work in putting this documentary together. It is a real masterpiece.
Dude this was great! Thanks for putting this together. Gave a great deep look at his career, seems like a scapegoat who unfortunately fell to what people told him he was. Hopefully he’s back on the right track now

This was so well done and I truly appreciate the passion and effort you put into this. Thank you for creating a wonderful look back into a flawed but amazing period in the sport.
Very informative documentary and very well broken down. You answered what seems to be every question everyone has had about this whole situation and seem to have the potential to make the best UFC documentaries out there. keep on going brother!!!
False. Made claims that Tj endangered other fighters. But did not state any fact that Tj took meds other then when he had to cut an unhealthy amount of weight.
Yes he should have never tried to move down to 125lbs especially when Henry was planning to fight at 135lbs. I don't know why UFC even allowed that fight. The only thing I can think about is UFC trying to save 125lbs by sending TJ there and TJ taking EPO because he didn't wanted to miss the opportunity which eventually cost him everything
@@angrymaniac53 I think they were tryna do something for 125 and TJ didnt wanna risk losing his belt at 135. He rather try to go to 125 and be double champ and worse case scenario he just goes up to 135. We saw how well that went lol
Yeah, he should have gone up a weight class instead of down, but it's easy to say that when you're not the one granted the opportunity. I think he thought he could make the weight, realized his body physically couldn't, and then ended up using Procrit/EPO to push through. It certainly doesn't justify it, but I can understand it.
@@mikeymaniac9229 no they probably weren't trying to do something for 125, that was back when they were considering cutting the division. They probably wanted TJ to go grab the belt so he could go back up to 135 and then they'd cut the flyweight division
Have had to literally come back a week later and watch this again. Bro, this is exceptional. I hope you put yourself forward and get noticed by the UFC and other big media. Because this video convicted me to go back and watch all these fights that have already happened. The effect that it could have for an upcoming event and potential PPV buys is considerable. I hope this takes you the fucking moon mate. You deserve all success coming your way.
You’re more like a poet than a strict documentarian. And I mean poet in the original sense of the word. You want to tell stories about legends with a “hero’s journey” with all its emotional ups and downs. And you’re really good at it. I really dig it.
While cleaning the garage today I looked for a UA-cam video to put on, and the algorithm showed me you for the first time. This was an incredible piece of work and I would put it in the category of documentaries, not UA-cam videos. The soundtrack, the voiceover work, the writing, the research, everything. Incredible work man. I wish you the best. Thanks for entertaining me while I reclaim my workout space 🙏
Mate, this was so well put together and told. Credit to you. To be honest, I'm such an old UFC fan. But I would watch any video you made about the numerous stories and sagas of MMA. You don't need me to tell you, but please be so proud of yourself for this. Fantastic
Not a huge fan of UFC, I watched this just to see something about life, fate, the universe, everything. I thought I'd watch a few minutes to see what it was like. Well, I was glued! Couldn't believe when it ended. Very, very good documentary and great narrative. Very empathic, as anyone who knows anything about life, we are, none of us perfect.
This was hauntingly beautiful. This was simply put, one of the most poetic narrations I've ever heard. It was like listening to an audio book by a master philosopher, caught myself rewinding over and over and soaking in the chillingly poignant prose. It spoke to not only my heart and soul, but inspired me to judge less and do more. This transcends far beyond the confines of a movie about a fighter, but delves into the heart of what it means to fight. In our life and in our minds, to fight the barriers we create for ourselves. To treat others with both empathy and respect, and to never cheat others. Thank you so much for this video and your gift for words
as much i hate what he did it seems to me after his impossible weight cut to 125 lead to his first own choice to cheat. i know his tests before the fight now with usada should have shown a glimpse. before this video i feel he was not deserved to join ufc again/... after i now am eager to see this saturday... thumb and *SuBD*
Hell yeah. I was a nice recap. 👍 I watched all these fights but it's been so long and I've watched so many fights I kind forgot how this whole thing played out.
We all knew that this story is multifaceted, as we watched it play out. You fleshed out an incredible rivalry and story in that the MMA media could never, or chose to not to. We’ll done ✅

Amazing work. The narration, story presentation, and filmography were top class. I hope you keep producing excellent, entertaining work like this. Thank you!
Incredible Documentary brother! It perfectly captures the constant turmoil and incredible pressures that can come with being number one in the UFC. TJ was one of the best fighters around but definitely fell far from grace with the mistakes he made. I like how you pointed out all the negatives about him but also offered up positives as well.
Subscribed immediately. Just wow man. You’re well on your way to documentary greatness. Keep grinding. This was absolutely incredible story-telling. A+
What an amazing video. Your analysis and commentary and the matter turned this piece into pure poetry. I’m glad this video exists. This was such an exciting time in the UFC’s history and future generations of fans can turn to this piece and feel some of what those of us who lived through it felt.
@@YurLackin23 I have made a video on Jones which is worth a watch for my full thoughts. But generally I think that he is okay, I can't relate to him, just think he ultimatley human like all of us!
As someone who isn't a massive UFC fan, I see the doping as something which was inherently avoidable due to the pressures of weight cuts which are seemingly inhumane. Yes he cheated, no argument, but it feels as though the weight cutting expectations need to be looked at across combat sports for the health of everyone involved. He did not look well at 124.5
I wrote and edited the second half first, and then I was like... Man... this would be so much better if I explained everything leading up to the drug violation! Appreciate you!
I've actually met TJ in real life once at 10th planet jujitsu in LA when I went on holiday there for a month, it was just after he won the belt and I can only speak to the 10 - 20 min chat I had with him then but he was a super down to earth dude and easy to talk with (not saying this negates the PED use obviously lol)
Exactly, these dudes speak on people as if it’s fact. Whether he began injecting some type of PED later in his career does not discredit the fact that he is a legend in the game who is as tough as nails and obviously accomplished most of those things without any help from PED’s because let’s be honest the level of stringent drug testing that the UFC does makes it extremely hard to be the drug test.
That was as good as it gets in story telling, production, and writing. Phenomenal piece! Certainly explains TJ's decisions, actually I now like and respect the guy!
Say what you will! Killashaw has one of the highest fight iq in UFC history! jon jones got caught aswell... but he is still the greatest of all time?!? Put some respect on what this man has accomplished. In my opinion top 5 of all time. props to "mixed Martial Academic" really good documentary !!
@@andreasgravgaard4559 I guess goat would imply p4p goat. I think there's room for Anderson since most of his fights were pre-USADA and everybody was juiced its different. But now that there's alot of natties on the roster I think we have to hold post-2015 accomplishments to a higher standard.
DJ isn't stubborn he just wanted to get paid his worth. How the hell can the UFC pay a 🐐well below 100k INCLUDING his win bonus per fight?!? He's the most respectful dude you'll ever meet.
The worst part of watching mma is that pay is based on some abstract entertainment "value" determined by the brass, not the actual ability of the fighter. I wanna watch a sport where Belal and Beniel could retire tomorrow. No other sport at this level has such disgusting paygrade
@@fiachracasey7625it’s not abstract at all. They can see how many tickets they sell. How quickly. They can tell how many ppv they sell. It’s the opposite of abstract. But even so - are all sports not like that? Don’t shitty football players sometimes get huge paychecks? One day when you get a clue, you can comment based on education. Until then, best to keep your mouth shut and let people think you’re a fool than open it and erase all doubt
the issue isnt that he made a mistake. its the idea that he would have taken his cheating to the grave and potentially done it in other fights if he never got caught. Also to talk about empathy, another issue is he never really seemed to legitimately care about the impacts it had, or felt truly sorry for his actions. so where i love redemption arcs, like you said he doesnt care about how what he did impacted others, and thats the first step
All other comments are about how great this video is, and it is a fantastic video but your points made here are most poinant and unheard. This is so true, why offer tj empathy when it's clear he's never fully understood what he's done
Great job with this. Based on the title I expected it to be a hit piece on someone I already didn't like, but telling the story with such depth and complexity actually made me want to root for him a little.
@MR Blaze Pukka he got revealed what kind of person he is, but don't bring loyalty into this. It's a professional and INDIVIDUAL sport. Their bad blood and changing team is a different story than him being a cheater. Many team alpha male guy admitted how random their training was before Duane. That era of just having a bunch of mma guys training together to be better is gone. Everyone on top has their personal trainer, most of them have multiple, while team alpha male has no one even close to be a title contender.
@MR Blaze Pukka he stayed loyal to coach who made him champ - dwaine ludwig. And everyone is juicing, don't cry. Or should we stop rooting for jones and silva because others don't get caught?
Good lord the monologue after the suspension portion was absolutely beautiful. As a man who's made a near fatal and ultimately life changing mistake of a similar variety, what you said resonated with me deeply. Thank you for saying what you said, you couldn't be more correct. Beautifully done overall as well. You are talent.

They were great times. From hating TJ to kinda start liking him than going back down again. It was real, unlike these WWE kinda beefs we have nowadays. Jones vs Dc saga was even better
Awesome documentary. You're narration, weaving in different cut-scenes was great...almost made him look human. As you said..."faith and all it's mysticism" will always let know he deserves everything he is reaping now.
Pretty sure the underlying message of a story like this is that we are all human and susceptible to become the villain of the story we are doing everything to be the hero of.
Therese a reason why Dom Cruz has a thriving career behind the mic, it’s because he’s sharp and articulate. Very rare to see people in the fight business preserve their facilities like that and I wish that for all combat sport and football athletes.
37:52 exact same reason why Jon Jones cant be considered the GOAT. He cheated by taking steroids on several occasions and hid under an octagon to avoid getting tested further.
40:20 - Wow, amazing breakdown with empathy and compassion. It reminds me of how one should criticize behavior and not character...cause man, these are prizefighters with a lot on the line. I can understand the temptation to take shortcuts, it's very human. Thank you for the great take and this just amazing production in your immense catalog.
Amazingly well put together, great work! Liked and subbed. On the topic of a failed drug test, the difference between TJ and the rest of the roster is the fact that he got caught. When there's millions of dollars on the line, or sometimes even just glory, PEDs are rampant. This is true for every sport, including MMA.
PEDs are always going to be in play whenever money or something like national pride (which is why the Olympic games are juicy as all hell because of national pressure to succeed) is on the line. The fact that athletes can compete, at the highest level, on the same grounds as people who have demonstrably used artificial physiological enhancement is evidence in itself that most people are on a similar playing field. Genetics does absolutely play a role, but if you have the best genetically gifted athlete in the world, and you take someone with above average genetics but who responds well to a full stack, that genetic difference is null and void, because no natural athlete is going to have the same hormone levels or the consistency that people using exogenous compounds show. It's insane to see the amount of hate TJ got for this, and people were lambasting him even more than fighters who have done far worse in the real world (like Conor effectively assaulting a busload of fighters or Jon Jones almost killing someone, beating his wife, and generally being an awful human). If there were a real argument to be made about "the worst behaved fighter" it would probably be Jones (for many reasons) or one of the many fighters who've gone on to do heinous shit (like we saw with the recent murder case involving a former ufc fighter). Getting popped means nothing in the face of people who take that violence outside the ring and are genuinely horrible people. It isn't cheating when everyone else is also breaking the rules. It's leveling the playing field. They should honestly just give up on the pretense and legalize PEDs with organizations like USADA focused on maintaining and ensuring a healthy program for athletes.
Great video - my opinion on PEDs in MMA has changed over time.. the natural response is to be vicious but when you look into peds in MMA and Sport in general you realise that TJ is not an outlier here, in fact many of your favourite fighters have undoubtedly used them so its a bit much to crucify the guy
all elite athletes use peds. It's physically impossible to cut weight while gaining muscle or maintaining muscle without enhancements. Imagine doing football drills all week and expected to be 100% at the game at the end of the week.
The Most Underrated MMA account on UA-cam. My man does such an extensive amount of research to give us a complete summary of small things we may have missed. Love the videos bro don’t ever stop ❤️🔥
@@YurLackin23 it’s not just the cheating that’s makes us hate him. It’s a whole bunch of other things. He allegedly ended Chris Holdsworths career, cheap shotting sparring partners (go look up a sparring match against a Japanese guy), going extra hard on sparring partners, lying about how he left team alpha male, and when he fought for the flyweight title, it wasn’t the fact that he was willing to cheat to win the title, it’s the fact that the flyweight division would have been shut down and he had no shame in cheating and putting some of his own friends like Joseph Benavidez out of a job.
Great video. It never ceases to amaze me that, for an organization that claims to be all 'alpha males', there's an amazing amount of junior high 'mean girls' going on.
Not saying Ludwig didn't have a huge impact on TJ winning the belt but I believe TJ's contempt for Team Alpha Male is a symptom of his own arrogance. And I believe his recent misfortune (all self inflicted) is an example of karma and forgetting who believed in you and made you

@@iamjohnrobot well the difference is jones had been great for a long time before all that shit came out tj not so much

"Still, every win he has there's a foul in every fight"-or what ever aha
Seriously though, winners focus on winning, losers focus on winners....I mean read ur comment twice its honestly sad to see how pathetic of an existence the mind stuck in this way would certainly provide....

False. Made claims that Tj endangered other fighters. But did not state any fact that Tj took meds other then when he had to cut an unhealthy amount of weight.
Dude that weight cut was insane. Not even a huge tj fan but there was no way you win that after being that drained it looked really bad
Bro the weight cut was that bad WITH EPO, that makes it even more insane to me.

It's still annoying how the same outlets that crucify TJ, suck off Jon "T-Bol" Jones any chance they get
Exactly, these dudes speak on people as if it’s fact.

Therese a reason why Dom Cruz has a thriving career behind the mic, it’s because he’s sharp and articulate. Very rare to see people in the fight business preserve their facilities like that and I wish that for all combat sport and football athletes.

On the topic of a failed drug test, the difference between TJ and the rest of the roster is the fact that he got caught. When there's millions of dollars on the line, or sometimes even just glory, PEDs are rampant. This is true for every sport, including MMA.
exactly, if you chose to not agree you're just plain ignorant.
This channel produces excellent documentaries.Very well done..
Great video - my opinion on PEDs in MMA has changed over time.. the natural response is to be vicious but when you look into peds in MMA and Sport in general you realise that TJ is not an outlier here, in fact many of your favourite fighters have undoubtedly used them so its a bit much to crucify the guy
exactly... don't know if he deserves "most disgraceful"...
all elite athletes use peds. It's physically impossible to cut weight while gaining muscle or maintaining muscle without enhancements. Imagine doing football drills all week and expected to be 100% at the game at the end of the week.

@@MixedMartialAcademic One of the reasons i love you
@@YurLackin23 it’s not just the cheating that’s makes us hate him.

💩 👃
My friend this is an amazing piece of work. The sad background music is well placed. Adds to the drama of the situation. Can't lie at first I wasn't excited about the thought of "another" deep dive into the topic. But you Sir blew the roof of this. I throughly enjoyed this! You are the "Alps Male" in this story
The way they kept him from the title for so long after the loss is crazy. Deserved an instant rematch and had to wait years
