Posthumously published nocturne in C minor by Frédéric Chopin. This is the least known of Chopin's nocturnes; nevertheless, the piece is as beautiful as the other ones.
when i was learning this piece my piano teacher told me that a lot of chopin’s pieces or rather nocturnes are either minor or major and then in the middle they switch, showing the meaning that life have two sides, and we need both sadness and happiness to make a wonderful and upliving life
In one of Chopin's Waltzes there a section that is in the major and then is repeated immediately in the minor. I always felt like that was Chopin's way of showing how the exact same memory can make you happy when you remember experiencing it, and then sad with the knowledge you can never experience it again (maybe because you're no longer a kid, or your friend/family is gone, or it's time you had with an ex)
When i listen to this nocturne, i see Chopin playing piano alone in the dark with only one candle on his piano, on a cold autumn night while the wind is howling through the window making a creepy noise.
chopin gets me through the worst times in life, when you think that life isn't worth living anymore, you listen to chopin and realize that the essense of life itself is concentrated in this music, and it's worth holding on just to hear or play those wonderful, captivating notes at least once more...
+Craig Shores It is baffling how much more music could have been made by him, and such a shame is wasn't. Absolute genius. As was Mozart who died aged 35, the mind boggles..
That said, this is an interesting point I've heard before, how much of Chopin's music was written knowing that he was going to die soon? Especially his darker works. But yeah, if he'd lived till Liszt's age imagine what he could have come up with.
This is so hauntingly beautiful... Is calms me and breaks my heart at the same time. Man, Chopin is the only composer by far that tugs at my heart the most :')
I agree. If you learn about the Enneagram system of personality, Chopin is a Four. I think Fours are the most sensitive, intuitive, creative people, noble and idealistic. They love and create beauty, and touch our hearts deeply. If I could time travel back and meet anyone in history, it would be Chopin.
I don't understand why this and the other posthumous nocturne weren't published during his lifetime. Did he think they weren't good enough or something? They are two of the best!
This is among the group of pieces Chopin had wanted burned. They wouldn't dare burn any of his works. Some of his best pieces would have not existed, had his wishes be followed. Fantasie Impromptu is another example.
Florent Tagnères So there are parts of this which where not composed by Chopin? Fantasie impromptu wasn't a draft though, it was a finished composition
I have met Chopin since already two years. I can't understand why so much people don't listen this music. This music has changed my vision of the world. How beautiful is this nocturne... I can't explain my sensations. Just enjoy.
so haunting and beautiful... if it wasn't for Chopin i don't know where i'd be. also 2:33 - 2:51 ... i have goosebumps everytime i listen to that part... Chopin helps me to study, reflect, sleep, and his music really heales souls...
Rain pours down on the alley, a kid runs to home, a woman covers her hair, grocery guy sweeps his store entrance, peace is in the air, god is in the rain...
This rendition is almost identical to Chilean pianist Claudio Arrau's version, but even more enjoyable - her left hand is subtler than Arrau's, while her right hand unleashes stronger emotion at perfect places...... Greatly appreciate Elisabeth Leonskaja's artistry for translating and channeling the unutterable beauty in this piece. Thank you for sharing her gift and Chopin's.
The very first time I heard this piece it knocked my socks off. Can’t stop listening to it. I’m determined to learn how to play it. When you listen to and especially play Chopin’s music it’s like you’re getting a brief glimpse into the mind and emotions of a next level genius.
This piece is fairly easy to play, its easy to sight read, at some phrases you got to practice to polish the smoothness. The rest is quite straight forward. Firstly you should sightread through the whole piece, then begin practice sessions by sessions. Using the metronome to practice is very effective for this particular piece, just make sure your left hand notes are aligned with metronome pulses. After enough practicing, remove the metronome then start to play with all your romantic emotions.
Easy to play ? The piece is considered quite challenging, not just in terms of technique but also in achieving the expressive nuance Chopin intended. It’s also relatively brief compared to some of his other nocturnes, making it a compact yet deeply affecting work
If you are not classically trained and/or can learn partially from ear it tends to help. I listened to both very often and oddly enough once I could hum the entire tune it became much easier to play from memory
The more I try to compose, the more I appreciate the simple beauty of the nocturnes. My melodies are usually twice as complex but not even half as musical and heart breaking. They say he usually conceived an entire piece in one flash of inspiration during, say, a walk. ridiculous. marvelous.
@@Magnet12 he probably said to burn it because he didn't write down how the music should be played(along with all the other unpublished works as well) since he cared a lot about his music more than anyone else
This is a very big misconception. Only because he wanted his unpublished pieces burnt didn't mean he disliked them. He didn't publish many due to how special they were to him.
I'm not sure if you noticed, but Arrau kind of did prepare for concerts. This interpretation is indeed a serious undertaking, and is of professional quality. I really love the ethereal effect of the interpretation, with its colours, loose phrasing, and subtle changes in dynamics.
While everybody has a right of expresing his or her opinion, it must be said that Chopin was one of the greatest musicians of all time and he was able to express, in his music, an enormous range of human emotions, including , happiness, anger, an enormous amount of passion and yes, sometimes a certain sadness and desolation. Other great composers did also, in their own way, express these emotions in their creations.
This lovely piece was posthumously published and the exact date of its composition is still unknown. Although it is 'simpler' than most of his other Nocturnes, it is still a small masterpiece that can convey an almost uncanny sense of reposeful melancholy, for want of a better expression. All the same, only this music can transmit its message... and no one else but Chopin could have written a music of such a tender and delicate intimacy.
a man, lone, wearing green and gray, with a grizzly face and a somber serenity in his eyes, sits down in the forest on a fallen pine with contemplation of the beauty surrounding him being the only thing on his mind; he rests in peace
Jesus.. It flows gently, almost like a whispered conversation.. makes it feel like a bittersweet memory resurfacing. It is like finding beauty within sorrow.
Reading the comments about how this is nowhere near Chopin's best...makes me laugh. I'm just a music appreciator and to me, this is genius. I think (at least for me) the best, most enduring pieces shine because of their beautiful simplicity, not for their complexity. The artist has captured something enduring. They make you feel deeply...which I think is the point of good music or good art in general. Complexity for complexity's sake too often comes up short. Still, it's interesting to read the comments from all the musical "geniuses" on here who haven't composed a note worth listening too...yet! I hope you do!
Gorgeous interpretation, wonderful timing, beware you all musicians, the notes seems easy but believe me not everyone can give the feelings and emotionons of this piece. Better try again ... I love this piece, so very haunting, and I also love Alican Özdemirs comment from 2 years ago which is absolutely spot on! Catches the athmosphere perfectly. I almost believe I have seen his vision in a Polish (or French) film

i love this nocturne more than op.48, the other c minor nocturne. this is simplier and shorter than other but it's ... tells emotion by easier way... i adore.
I do think though, it is a great mistake to regard Chopin's music as being sad or the man as a depressed fellow. His music can be very brilliant and even demand a great deal of athletic vigor from the pianist. His Polonaises, Sonatas, Scherzos, Ballades, F minor Fantasy, Etudes, among many others are an exemple of pianistic virtuosity at its highest level.
Incontestably the best nocturne, and the Performer showed a deep lecture of the piece, and give it the deserved splendid in Rubato and Dynamics ... This piece is strangely the less spread among Chopin nocturnes 😢
The best nocturnes musically are his Op 62 which are his last ones, and his Op. 37 No. 2. But I don't think there is a best nocturne in general. There is no competition in music.
The soul of that man was greater than the universe
The soul lived 30 yrs the universe we live in
Thats not possible
It truly was....what a genius

Absolutely gorgeous. Chopin was master of the piano like no other. I love his Nocturnes, who else could put so much feeling and mood into music?
Chopin is my favorite person who ever lived.
I agree. If you learn about the Enneagram system of personality, Chopin is a Four. I think Fours are the most sensitive, intuitive, creative people, noble and idealistic. Ehi
'Sti qua col pallone sfottevano me perché volevo fare le rime
Vuoi sapere di me?

Ive listened to many kinds of genres and artists abroad yet classical hiphop and hardcore engulf me by message and sound
This piece is very beautiful.
i love this nocturne more than op.48, the other c minor nocturne. this is simplier and shorter than other but it's ... tells emotion by easier way... i adore.
Wow, amazing interpretation.
C’est super bien j’adore
I love it and I've learned it from here Thank you so much
Same! I'm playing this song and it always makes me cry.
one word - masterpiece
Liliann ilievaa IKR! After 6 years... let's look back!
Chopin is my favorite
this is my favorite piano performance.
It's amazing sound with beautiful melodies.
EXTRAORDINARIAMENTE BELA !!! (grata. Malu / Brasil)
It is my favourite Nocturne
My god, this is ridiculously pretty.
Eeeek. I get chills. So good.
There is no competition in music.
ohh my God it reminds me of precious days they may never come back again.
I love this one ^_^
