Now that was a good video! I love the old pan. I'm impressed with your one of kind sluice box... It surprisingly produced very nice color and a lot of it. With help from you of course.
Glad you enjoyed it Josh. The old-timers only had wood to make their contraptions out of; I had PVC, Astroturf, steel, aluminium and rubber matting to play with. I've put the pan at the end of the sluice trough and never had any gold make it that far. That stuff sinks like crazy.
Thanks jaffyger: it was always on my 'bucket list' to go 'gold digging' and this humble little vid is just a celebration of having 'been there; done that'. Follow your heart and live your dreams :).
Oh my!! New Zealand must be a magical wonderland! There you can pan for gold, wash a little sand away and boom!! GOLD!! This must be the only country in the world that doesn't have to deal with black sand. Those of you who have ever panned gold for real know what I'm talking about LOL!
Thanks for that Lone Wolf. I met a couple of old-timers in the hills many moons ago, and watched, and listened, and drank, and listened, and watched and hopefully learned a few tips about gold.
alan patton I heard there was gold in them there Wicklow Hills too. It's a tremendous adventure and treasure-hunt, so long as you don't expect to profit from it. If the authorities allow it, I'd say go find a pan and have a go. (I started out as an eejit with a Wok!).
Thanks Weka: 4K resolution is so sharp, it's like actually being there: you can just about reach out and grab a nugget! In a small window - say 12" x 5" - 1080p looks fine, but 4K full-screen, makes 1080p look like video from a cellphone, or gramaphone! Worth looking into. Checkout some 4K clips on Vimeo.com and you'll see what I mean.
+Gold Prospecting Thanks Rob. Yes, I can can see that you chaps also enjoy a day out washing stones by a river. Yous are way more hi-tech than I am, but it's always exciting to find some of that heavy, yellow stuff in the pan. Keep having fun at it: the endeavour and the enjoyment are way more important than any profit. Regards, Diarmuid.
Thank you MrNetana: I love gold-panning (something I always wanted to do) and making interesting/informative/quality videos. I don't hunt for gold very often, but give it 100% when I do - for the experience; never for profit. Glad you appreciated it. You do your stuff well: not my thing, but you have talent in what you do. Regards, D.
Thanks David; glad you appreciated the image quality. As for "how much", well, as any old-timer will tell you, never disclose your location or your proceeds :)
You would have thought that someone would have told you about "snuffer bottles" to suck up your gold, and modern gold pans that trap the gold, and also not putting your gold in glass bottles. Other than that...nice gold!
Pike Evans Thanks Pike. I prefer the old, rusty pans to modern plastic ones, and gold looks way better through glass than plastic, and the nuggets rattle too. Not the most efficient gear, but I do it for pleasure, not profit.
I agree that gold does look better in a glass bottle. But I would do that part at home...it would be very easy to drop your glass bottle out in the stream and break it...then you would try to recover it once again. The little "snuffer bottles" let you suck the gold particle right out of the pan, if you drop it...it won't break and it will float as long as you don't have it completely filled with water. You can switch the gold to your glass bottle at home. Pans are a matter of personal choice ( actually it all is)...but the new ones really do a very good job of trapping almost every speck. You really have to be rough to lose gold once it is in the pan. Anyway, not being critical...just giving advise. I enjoyed the video...I use to do this a lot, but haven't for several years. I miss it. Have you tried a rocker box, or high banker? A small rocker box is pretty effective at collecting the gold, and they are easy to make.
bettyboop65340 I understand that every substance is at least slightly magnetic (they're all electrical remember - protons, electrons etc), but you won't pick gold up with a normal magnet. You do pick up the ironsand though, which helps clean those grains from your pan. Try sticking a small neodymium magnet to the underside of the pan and see what it grabs.
Best camera work I've ever seen in a panning video. Huge points for not talking.
+Docktor Jim Thanks for that Docktor Jim: your feedback is much appreciated.
dty2dty2 You've got a very good sense of what we want to see.
You find more gold in one pan than I have ever in my past 7 months of starting this hobby.
it was sluiced first ... so the final material is probably many pans worth
Correct Allan: many pans-worth and many day's-worth of 'washing stones'; all of them most enjoyable :) .
That creek and these hills look so nice ^^

Thanks for that Lone Wolf. I met a couple of old-timers in the hills many moons ago, and watched, and listened, and drank, and listened, and watched and hopefully learned a few tips about gold.
Always fancied doing this, There was a wee river up in Omagh which looked good , There's gold in the Spirren mountains.

This looks fun.
Interesting, unfortunately my broadband is too slow to see in 4K. Just manages 1080p but good enough for me.

Loved it :)
Cosmic Brah Glad you appreciated it Cosmic.
Great gold!! Nice sluice box, prospecting and engineering go hand in hand. What is the name of this creek?
Caz lol

+Prospector Fairbanks What are you talking about, there is nothing wrong with the sluice
Where was this video shot? I'm in texas but looking to travel to do some panning if there's good results as this video shows
This is filmed in New Zealand, but I'm sure you can find some interesting territory in the States.
Enjoyed. Rob Perry of THE GOLD ANGLE (an online gold prospecting site).

I like this video because I can actually noticed the 4K resolution haha, but how much did you get that day?
Thanks David; glad you appreciated the image quality. As for "how much", well, as any old-timer will tell you, never disclose your location or your proceeds :)

Nice river!
is gold magnetic?

If I try it , it would purely for the experience ..... And the treasure hunting instinct inside of me
Where bouts are you please
