  • I will show you how I leverage the HP Prime Graphing Calculator to automate repetitive beam checks to save time and reduce errors.

I had too much time invested in my 50g to even consider the prime. I wrote a tonne of programs for it. One program I wrote was designing concrete beams and converging to an appropriate solution, complete with menus and error checking.😊 I also had preprogrammed load cases saved & used the numeric solver to determine any variable. These days it's mostly excel and my 50g is barely used.

Actually, after I bought the calculator, I fell in love with the virtual application of it on windows, the letter input becomes so efficient.

This is where, the document-based system of "TI Nspire CX CAS" is the more superior. Each document is its own isolated compartment of mini-programs, constants, formulas etc. You can also create then expose common formulas into a publicly accessible list. And because it is document-based, you can shared the document (it is just a file) with others and they will have your compartmentalized/specialist mini formulas, mini-programs under that document.

That all sounds convenient. HP has a "connectivity kit" application that runs on my desktop that seems to work the same way. However, the files that contain the program are specific to the Prime's operating system with an extension .HPPRGM. So, whenever one of my coworkers gets a new calculator I can simply drag and drop the .HPPRGM file. It couldn't be easier.

If you are looking for some examples on writing programs for the HP Prime, then I think I can put something like that on UA-cam. I am really glad you asked. I enjoy programming and am looking forward to showing you how I got started with it!

Hi Tonny, Can I have a question about the setting? When I input a fraction, the Entry Line only shows 1 line. For example, it shows 9/3 (exactly like this). It displays like another cheap calculator. Hard to see in complex math. Is this something I have to do with the setting display? Thank you so much.

I prefer to operate my calculator in the "CAS" environment rather than the "Home" environment on the HP Prime. CAS is a computer that can solve symbolic equations. Something like Matlab or Mathematica. Also, CAS is useful for writing scripts assigned to variables that streamline your calculations. In case your screen looks different from mine. I have typed the settings I used in "CAS" for the calculations shown in the video.
"CAS" settings: number format is "Standard" = 4, Integers are "Hex" and check box, simplify is "Minimum". Also, uncheck: Exact, Complex, Use i, and Increasing. Also, check: Use (root symbol), and Principal. Finally, in the home settings on page 2 I use "medium font" to format the number of character on each line of output.
