With their eyes set on the release of their new studio album, From Wasteland To Wonderland, on April 29, Hungarian Celtic-style punk outfit PADDY AND THE RATS let their third single sail out to sea and deliver yet another preview with the smashing party-hymn, “Party Like A Pirate”. The massive album highlight heats things up by delivering deep and hysterical backing vocals, catchy polka and pipe elements. It’s impossible to sit still, so just crack a beer and swing along!

“We shot the video in Tenerife in famous places like the Volcano Teide and the classic pirate village in Maska. The story starts on a pirate ship where a bunch of pirates have a party and bully a witch who curses the pirates to wake up in the present. They try to understand the modern world which leads to very funny situations. The song is a typical PADDY AND THE RATS party song - causing the urge to dance in everyone who listens to the catchy melody.”

This was once one of my favorite bands but this new direction they’ve taken lately has definitely changed that.

Not an entirely new direction. There are still some old-skool Paddy songs on this new album like The Last Hunt, Ship Will Sail, Northern Lights and Standing In The Storm. And Hometown Kid also to some degree.

I had a similar feeling about "Everybody get up", yes it is different. But that's okay, everything evolves. I hope I get to hear this live, now I'm patiently waiting for CD to arrive. :)
Depends on how you define their music. Yes, their old music sounds heavier, but the unofficial tag line of the band since 2008 is “to make the people swing happily along arm in arm to the beat of our sound”. This song, while different, does fit into that category.

But even so: at least it sounds a lot more like the old PATR than most their previous songs in the past few years. The pirate theme fits well with their older Irish sound and they already did at least once with Join the Riot. Also, for the first time in a few years they're wearing their usual costumes again. I think this song would've fit in with Join the Riot if Paddy had sung the verses more aggressively instead of just the chorus.
I think the entire album will feature some more old-school-like songs, though. The artwork of the album looks insanely good and some of the songs suggest a different sound as well. They're just trying to broaden their horizon a little, like Alestorm did with some of their songs (e.g. Treasure Chest, Party Quest and Tortuga). Sometimes it doesn't fit so well (e.g. their songs during the COVID ‘lockdown’ and Everybody Get Up), other times it fits better (e.g. Party Like A Pirate, After The Rain (with ATR, maybe not 100% lyrically, but instrumentally, their familiar sound is definitely there)).
Either that, or Napalm is now doing the thing most record companies do: only release radio-friendly songs]/potential chart toppers as singles and leave the truly good stuff for the true fans who will buy the album.

I always loved & love much more those entertainers Who wears extravaganza costumes on videos. Adam & The Ants, Paddy & The Rats, The Party Pirates, Village People... and Lot Of others. More interesting, enjoying & beauties Than If somebody sings & dancers wears a Simple jeans...

Celtic pop-punk? I mean it's not horrible at all but there is defonitely better pop out there and better celtic punk too, their old songs for example... It's not my place to tell them what music to do, all i can say with lot of sadness is that i will not be riding this train... 😔
Frickin' disco! Why do you people all have to sell yourselves? Aren't there any limits for greed? Of course Paddy needs a very big alcohol supply... He doesn't even have the willpower to get through a gig sober enough to play decently. So sad... :(
