    Beautiful gardens and tour. I love your grandmother's table. I am very much a sentimental and family person. Sometimes, my wife laughs at me.
    It's so nice to be able to have your grandmother's table in the garden. When you visit the gardens, you'll have wonderful memories. Have a good day! Glad you're doing better.

    Sorry to hear you were sick, it can take a while to get back in the swing of things. So many beautiful plants you showed us, hard to pick a favorite “snapshot”, spectacular wherever you look! Your containers and the different grouping are luscious, the hydrangeas are really stunning and I very much enjoy all the hostas and grasses. My favorite moment was when you showed off your Grandma’s table, that was so touching and beautiful.❤️Thank you for the wonderful tour. Gail

    Oh, I'm sorry to hear you've been under the weather! I was wondering where you were! It's good you're feeling better! So glad to walk around the garden with you again! Here in Minnesota, we have a bumper crop of mosquitoes also! I am wondering what is your favorite hosta variety that gets very large? I am needing to fill a big shade area and am hoping to get a few bigger ones! Thanks for the tour!❤

    You've probably passed a nest and got scolded. Love your petunia colors and repetition is very helpful. Appreciate your mentioning the amount of sun your plants get. We had a wet, cool/cold March and then instant summer with drought since then outside of Philadelphia. I ordered two Pugster butterfly bushes along with Candy Corn spirea for my slopes. Love grasses along with coneflowers. Again thank you for the tour.

    So beautiful! You’ve got such an amazing collection of beautiful hydrangeas. I’m struggling so bad with mosquitoes too! It was a rainy spring and early summer which made everything so beautiful but I can’t even enjoy the evenings. It’s really hot during the day here in NE Kansas. So I try going out in evenings to deadhead and pull Japanese beetles off. Ugh, I ended up with tons of bites. One I think is getting infected. I try using organic sprays but they wear off too soon. I hate that off stuff. It stinks so bad. I want to find something organic I can spray the yard with that won’t hurt the other flying insects. Is there such a thing? We live right by a creek so I don’t even know if it would be worth spraying the yard. Sometimes I wish I lived in Colorado with a garden, they don’t deal with mosquitoes or bugs like us Midwest and Southern folks do. Course, I think how nice Michigan might be with cooler nights would be too. 😊Thank you for sharing your beautiful garden today. ❤

      So much depends on the soil I think and I mulch every year to help continue to feed the soil. But a lot can also depend on your climate and how much rain you get. Thank you for your nice compliments!

    It's good to see you up and about again. Take it easy.
    I would love to grow a hibiscus but I've heard they get devoured by Japanese beetles. Do your plants ever have that problem?

    • @Suburbanoasis
      @Suburbanoasis  2 місяці тому

      Thanks, Kim! The beetles do nibble on the foliage. I suppose it depends on how bad you get japanese beetles. They don't seem to bother with the blooms though!

    For your former boxwood hedge area, have you considered Japanese helleri? They have the look of the boxwoods but without the diseases associated with boxwoods. Or even cryptomeria globosa nana? I think both are deer and rabbit resistant.

    Hi! Yes, my pieris is setting buds too (NE Ohio zone 6a). Question: I just planted some opal lungwort this summer and it's starting to get white on the leaves. Suggestions?

    • @Suburbanoasis
      @Suburbanoasis  2 місяці тому +1

      That is probably powdery mildew. You can spay some neem oil or copper fungicide on it. The plant may look a bit bad for a bit but will Come or you can cut off the impacted leaves and throw in the garbage.

    How do you keep your lungwort looking so good and full, mine all died back after they bloomed. I cut them back after they bloomed this spring to avoid powdery mildew and they came back but shortly after all the leaves wilted.

    Help!!! My son wants me to plant an area in his yard which get NO direct sun. This area is shaded by him home. Grass grows great but I'd love to grow hydrangeas against the house but don't know a variety that would work. Any ideas?

    • @laurelrosegardens6454
      @laurelrosegardens6454 2 місяці тому

      Not sure what zone you're in but if the area is truly zero sun there aren't many blooming shrubs that will do well long-term. That said I have Little Quickfire Hydrangeas on the north side of the house that get only a few hours of direct afternoon sun and they do great. Check out large perennials like Sun King Aralia or Snakeroot as well. They get very large and look like shrubs in summer. Yews can also do well in shade.

    • @eugenyah
      @eugenyah 2 місяці тому

      Does the area get any sun at all, even if for a few hours in the morning? Depending on your zone, Macrophylla (bigleaf) Hydrangea, such as Endless Sumnmer Bloomstruck will handle shade better with 2 or 3 hours of morning sun. Also, some oakleaf hydrangeas and the White Wedding paniculatta hydrangea can do well in shade as long as they get a few hours of sun to promote flowering. If the area is 100% shade, the only Hydrangea that will do well will be a climbing hydrangea. Happy gardening!

    • @Suburbanoasis
      @Suburbanoasis  2 місяці тому +1

      If the grass grows well, there is probably just enough sun. The hydrangeas may not bloom as much or do as well as they would with more sun. I see other have provided you with some great responses!
