    Did you know that Kuala Lumpur is just an hour's flight from Medan in North Sumatra! Tickets are only about 500,000 IDR (around $50AUD) each way, so it's really simple to pop across from Malaysia to explore Sumatra. 😀

      People from Negeri Sembilan like to visit Bukit Tinggi in Sumatera because of their cultural similarities.

      That's good to know. Maybe next time I return from Canada I will fly to Malaysia first, visit Sadri's cousin and then fly over to Sumatra for a visit. That's a cheap flight. 👍

    So happy to hear you went and had a complete check-up and nothing serious to worry about or have to deal with. I can totally understand why you had to go out of Indonesia to get thorough testing and a qualified opinion. Luckily it was not far to travel there. And that pool with the view and having it all to yourselves - amazing! Hope you are feeling better Carly and some relief in knowing. Hugs from Lombok🤗🤗

      Thank you - it was really good to get everything checked in one go and be able to trust the results! I also got routine things like mammograms and PAP, which were overdue, so really happy we made the trip. It's crazy that the flight is only an hour but it takes us a full day of travel to get to the airport haha. Hope Sadri is feeling loads better! xx

      @@ExploringSumatra Is there a hospital in Lake Toba or you would have to travel elsewhere if there was an emergency? We have a Puskesmas very close to our village. I wonder if there are any mammogram machines in Indonesia. Maybe Jakarta. Nothing on Lombok and a friend of mine checked in Bali for me - nothing. Which is surprising because Bali has a large population of expats. Sadri had a 2-day fever and a setback with his wounds but feeling better again for 2 days now. Hopefully feeling back to normal soon. Thanks for asking! Take care guys!

    • @ExploringSumatra
      @ExploringSumatra  9 місяців тому +1

      We have puskesmas jusr down the road in our village, but it’s famously - how do i put it - a last resort kind of place haha. There is a hospital on Samosir Island about an hour away, but if we needed to go to hospital, we would probably rather make the two hour trip to the nearest bigger hospital - or the four hour trip to Medan.
      That’s crazy there are no mammogram services in Bali!! Gosh I’ll have to check the situation in Medan for that in future. Glad Sadri is feeling better too. 😊

    I would still be standing on the side of the road waiting for traffic to stop !!! Do they have pedestrian crossings or do you have to play dodgems ?? Busy bustling city - very different from Toba. Maybe you will go back some time and play tourist xxxxxx🌻

      We were looking for traffic lights and crossings but couldn't see any anywhere haha. Confused as in Sumatra it's put your hand out and force them to stop. In Singapore, you'll get arrested for that. We must have looked rather silly standing on the side of the road looking confused. We loved it - hopefully can pop back over one day just for fun!

    Please elaborate on travel insurance. You mention safety wing. A lot of bloggers and internet folk get a slice of the travel insurance recommendations they make. A lot of people say they have trouble getting travel insurance to actually cover costs. Have you ever used your recommendation, safety wing, to cover a health insurance claim. If so how did that go?

    • @ExploringSumatra
      @ExploringSumatra  6 місяців тому

      Hi there! Thanks for the question. We do receive a commission if people sign up with our links, but at the same time, we wouldn't recommend something that we weren't happy with. For example, we used to list World Nomads as a recommendation until we needed to make a claim with them and had a negative experience!
      We then switched to SafetyWing, but have never needed to make a claim, so can't personally comment on that process; however, we found them the most flexible and affordable by far out of the options we've investigated, and the easiest to sign up with and communicate with.
      Since we are now based in Sumatra permanently, we both have the local health insurance, so no longer need travel insurance, but if we do an international trip, we'll be using them again.
      Always open to hear recommendations from other trips or feedback on their own insurance experiences. :)

    Selemat Sore Carly & Agung! Senang sekali medical treatment in Malaysia! Murah sekali! Once was treated 4
    typhoid fever @Singapore General(fresh food(no pkg food like in US hospitals) movie theater, & more! Bali will have new hospital in partnership with Mayo Clinic. Hard 2 believe Jakarta doesn't have medical check-up services(Kizuna). Did they screen 4 digestive disorders, pelvic dysfunction, allergies? Predict certain diseases? Mental health? Did they tell u anything u didn't know?Suddenly went thru cellulitis on leg & was happy 2c dr but side effects threw me 4 a loop! Stay beautiful & healthy! Cookie sends love.

      Selemat pagi Liz! We had a friend receive treatment for dengue in Singapore last year and they also said it was amazing - like being in a 5 star hotel! Jakarta may well have similar packages (we're not sure), but Kuala Lumpur is closer and cheaper to travel to - just a 45-60 minute flight). Indonesians that have the means to do so usually also travel to Malaysia for healthcare rather than gamble on the local services. We've just had (and witnessed) too many negative experiences in Sumatra to risk it.
      The specific things you mention aren't included in the health screening packages, but you could certainly request them as add-ons.
      They did tell us several things we weren't aware of that are important to know, so grateful for that! Hope you're feeling much better - side effects can be nasty! Hugs to you and Cookie. xx
