  • The show has wanted Stephen King on for a while and has complimented him on his writing and thoughts on pop culture. In an article for Entertainment Weekly, he does not have kind things to say about them. This is the break that guaranteed King a spot during Jocktober.

Stephen King is the most overrated hack writer in the business. I've read The Stand - all 1300 pages of it - and it's some of the worst drivel I've ever read, absolute horseshit. His books are filled with contrivances, lazy writing and almost always rely on deus ex machina. I find it incredible that people have given him this moniker as the "Master of Horror", there is absolutely _nothing_ remotely scary about his books. In fact, his books read like children's books, he just throws in some adult subject matter like rape or murder to disguise it as a grown up's book. He always complains that filmmakers 'ruin' his books, the reality is they _improve_ them by stripping out all the drivel and injecting some actual atmosphere and _fear_ into it.. He comes up with some good concepts but he has absolutely no idea what to do with them, ending up just writing a load of self-indulgent drivel, anti-science, anti-technology, pro-superstious and pro-religious dogshit, and self-serving morals about his own alcoholism and why he's completely blameless for all of it.
If you haven't read The Stand I'll tell you how it ends - don't worry, this isn't a spoiler, this is a 'saver', I'm rescuing you from eye poison - The Stand ends with GOD'S HAND COMING DOWN FROM HEAVEN AND ACTIVATING A NUCLEAR WARHEAD. I am not making that up, that is what actually happens in that calamity of a novel. I had to re-read the page 3 times because I couldn't believe it could be that truly awful. He's an overrated hack who writes nothing but mediocrity, and _that's_ why he's so popular; because he appeals to the lowest common denominator.
    Ok, rant over.

@e101ilication your right about the lowest common denominator for his readers. but most people don't read and don't read his books. most people know about him because his crap books get turned into crap movies. and as far as his writing, most of his early works were actually only co-authored by king. the other author was cocaine.

He hasn't written anything worth a shit in decades and he's always been considered mediocre in the literary world. The McDonald's of writers. Great directors turned his books into more then what they were. He notoriously hated The Shining. He preferred the trash miniseries that he influence over because it was the "proper interpretation". Steven King is the most overrated writer of all time. I seriously don't understand why people praise him so much. He has some good ideas but his execution of them is awful 80% of the time, he can't end a story for shit and he skips over important plot developments that are too difficult for him to write. He's a hack. The Stand is easily the worst book I've ever read. You know how that book ends? It's not a spoiler - I'm _saving_ you from wasting valuable hours of your life. God's hand comes down from heaven and saves the day. No, I'm not joking or making that up, that is literally what happens at the end of the story. It's fucking diabolical. And Randal Flag is the lamest villain ever. Yet for some reason King is heralded as one of the greatest writers of our time. What a crock of shit.

    • @ct-gt2dt

well it's because of his financial success from writing and his amazing audience reach. he's probably one of the most successful writers in history tbh. doesn't necessarily make him good to you or in general literary terms but it definitely says he speaks well to the majority. he's full of himself but I don't think the guy ever thought he was the next James Joyce or something. he influenced thousands of movies and books past his own work. basically he really spoke to the public which is hard to do with just horror novels. that's probably why he is so notable if you really wanted to know lol.

As usual he wanted the hotel to be the evil that infects Jack and turns him crazy but Kubrick realized it was much more interesting to see a man who had already done bad things become unraveled. Again king’s mawkish supernatural nonsense vs kubrick’s pessimistic belief that all humans are capable of evil.

We now know, Opie "went to Management" far FAR more than what you'd think. Anthony helped expose all the lies Opie told. Don't u love it when Opie lies and says "other stations hated us bc we were changing everything". Awww....poor Opie honestly thinks this is why he can't get even a SINGLE good guest for his "new show" that is so painfully bad to watch I can't even sit through it just to laugh

@jmarz98 opie and Anthony ARE legends of the radio industry. Sure Steven king is a legendary horror fiction writer, but that's just in writing. They are both legends in their own fields. The point is that Steven king has no reason to call opie and Anthony hacks when it's clear from his own radio station that he has no idea what he's talking about when it comes to radio and what people want to hear.

However, I don't find any humor insulting his family and loved ones. I understand they would be angry what he said and I would be too, but attacking his family to me are low blows.

You know you're listening to a hack when Opie tried HARD to say they "prepared for the show", "worked hard" etc ... Well now we all see what Opie "learned" since he was in radio since he was 18....you'd think he wouldve at least learned how to setup a microphone 🎤🎙️...but nope. He has millions, and instead of investing in anything decent, he went with I guess it's an all in 1 recorder and microphone unit, and it makes "the compund" broadcasts/podcasts look Edward R. Murrow. Opie having to sit there for over and hour holding the mic...it's just classic. But to hear him lie, about "how hard they work" or "how they are on top"....well guess what happened within like a WEEK of Anthony being fired from Sirius radio, the "not a morning zoo show" Opie went after of all people....Roland Campos....where he apparently knew enough about audio/visual equipment to go into a bathroom and videotape record Roland taking a dump. You heard that right. He thought it was MAJOR edgy to video Roland pooping 💩. Management who opie claimed just days before "are loving the show" (something that Opie himself said, was a sign of a failing program if "management loves your show". Opie is up there with people I would go into debt to fight in person. My ONLY condition I just want it broadcast to millions of people. I would take out a LOAN to embarass him even more than he has himself. I DARE you to go look at current pictures of the poor Peter pan that never had to grow up. Even Opie admitted his school sex talk scared him to his core. Yes he was scared to have sex of course because he's a disgusting looking Ginger and I want to know what woman would ever have sex with him without access to the millions of dollars....but anyway almost 100% of the co-workers, talent, comics, etc. On "his" show won't even give the opester the time of day, much less come onto his garbage little show. Even sherrod small stopped doing em. And that man is DESPERATE for cash. Or at least he comes across that way, doing those terrible video shows with Frank Stallone and Danny bonaduce. I just don't understand how someone could think so highly of themselves....think they can fight, think they're "tough" but then the only times he ever got into a fight he lost to the black kid he called the N word and the boy wasn't having it, and CLOCKED the opester mid court. During a play. During a game in basketball. Knocked him out cold on the floor. I could tell you a couple other stories like him climbing up the apple tree because he was scared he would have to grow up one day and literally started crying ran home climbed an apple tree and continued crying throughout the afternoon until his daddy came down and talked him out of the tree telling him he didn't have to have sex or ever grow up. So he didn't. And now he's a lost peter pan with millions in cash, but a SEVERE mental issue that he had to see a psychiatrist for, especially after his debacle with his wife's ex, bam margera, telling everyone he too was gonna "release a tape" of him and his ex, opies current wife that married Opie solely for money and fame...and then little poor obi had to go on the radio and tell everyone how much it devastated his family. Imagine having to talk to your kids about their mommy's sex tape and sex life...bc she couldn't keep it in her pants, she needed to film it. But what gold digger DOESNT work that way? Anyway it made my whole WEEK when Opie said how skanky she was and how he had to even tell his kids about it. Ouch. What a "classy lady" you married ope. I have yet to see even ONE Picture outside of their marriage, where they' genuinely look happy or content, or even pictures at ALL. so you want use to believe ope ...that there's a SEX TAPE...floating around somewhere...bc otherwise why would you have to tell your children about it? I'll give ya a hint ope, girls that bounce from celebrity to celebrity...aren't exactly "happy" selling their mind body and soul in exchange for never having to work a day of their "lives". I personally could not call that "living"....but just IMAGINE your mom...ugh ...making a sex tape and then you had to go around school gettin DOGGED for how skanky she is, or at best people saying "dude look at ur mom bangin bam margera for fame and cash!!". Anthony has had one of the all time most embarassing lives I've ever even HEARD of...and I think Opie MIGHT just have him even beat. I hope the millions of dollars helps cushion the blow of all the embarrassing things.

I grew up loving King. Salem's Lot, The Mist, The Langoliers, The Shining. The guy's great. IT, leaving aside the horror element, is one of the most accurate depictions of childhood ever, showing how really ugly it can be and how cruel adults and other kids often are. "The Jaunt" is one of the most disturbing sci-fi shorts I've ever read. But, I don't get why, out of all the truly dreadful radio out there, he'd pick these two to trash. At least they HAVE an actual viewpoint. They're definitely not a "Morning Zoo" kind of shit-fest. I think he mentioned them because he was trying to make a point and they're the first names that came to mind. He probably has never even heard the show. I mean, what are you gonna do? He's an old dude, and like all old dudes, eventually they're out of touch.

Stephen KING's writing is so dull, H.P. Lovecraft and POE would have committed suicide, or at least put down their quills, knowing KING would be the future of Horror Lit. KING exists for two reasons: 1) entertain the Lowest Common Denominator, 2) make money off that same group. KING is unoriginal and a very dull read...but again, the movies are pretty incredible.
