Your timing was perfect for me sitting in my warm Wyoming house and it is 17 below outside, 34 below with the all present wind. I certainly have a love/hate relationship with the extreme cold. I think you captured this well. Take Care and keep the videos coming!

Mark, thank you for watching. 34 below is quite chilly, and there's not much I feel like doing at that temperature besides walking to my garage. The cold grinds on us a bit, too, but it does bring a long of peace.

That is beautiful insight! I was captivated by your description of 50 below and those that endure and survive in it.
I can't move in the cold, I'm just not built for it, I imagine I would burst like a spruce tree. I have an endearing respect for those who can. It's amazing how the wildlife can endure extreme temperatures, I would want to invite them all in, too! 😅 😊

Thank you. Funny you should mention that, but yesterday we had a mom and large calf moose come visit us. The calf even brushed up against our cabin, and it you look on my AKWild1 Facebook page you'll see a pic of the larger calf looking whimsically at our outhouse. Thank you for watching and your kind words.

You have such a way wirh words! I loved this meditation on 50 below. Maybe because I grew up there, or maybe just because I'm odd, I didn't have any negative feelings about the cold. Winter was never too long in my book, lol. I miss the winters up there the most. Oh wait, I did have one negative feeling. Having to pay an arm and a leg to plug in the car :) Thank you so much for creating and sharing these wonderful videos. I cannot get enough! Stay warm ❤

I think you have the right idea about winter. You have lots of time to think. Most of my years I lived without a garage and had to plug in my vehicle so I can relate to your pain. Now, I believe I am very grateful to have a garage.

Absolutely beautiful! You are so gifted at your narration and video editing. I cannot imagine the bite of the cold at 50 below, yet you've crafted it into something beautiful. I look forward to the stories you'll tell of the upcoming seasons in Alaska! Wonderful job!

Thank you, Maureen. You always have the kindest, most encouraging words. I enjoy making films, and the journey of trying to get better at the craft each day. It also helps keep me focused on planning future adventures. I look forward to outdoor trips not only for the excitement of being in the wilderness, but for the filming opportunities that might come my way. It's a great way to live.

I may have experienced 100 below as a wind chill factor but that is nothing in comparison to a steady temp of 50 below when I wouldn't want to imagine what that would be like. that is way beyond brutal and I commend you Ray for being able to endure that. I really don't imagine very many people could do that.

Hi Dwayne, when I was hiking at 100 degrees in Northern California and Southern Oregon, I yearned for 50 below, if only for a half hour or so. For some reason, I do tolerate the cold better than most, although I fall apart more than others in the heat. I guess it's a trade-off. I love hiking when the temps are in the 40s, above zero. Take care my friend.

For some reason, there had been coffee splashing around me all day yesterday--watching this for a fifth time, I am amazed by the variances of attention attenuation, leaving this instance in wonder about the plausibility of evaporative coffee. ...
A former employer of mine forwarded me a video about "The winterkeeper a lifetime spent protecting the wilderness," --possibly there is some solace in knowing isolate companionship.

Anyone who quotes Robert Service is all right by me. I can't tell you how many times I recited the Spell of the Yukon when I was living in the city to remind myself of my goal to live in the woods in Alaska one day. Thank you for sharing.

There is a price to pay living in this country, I often dream of warmer places when the temperature drops and keeps me inside my walls, at times like that I try to remember that the pay off living here is much greater then the price.

I've never thought of that so obvious linguistic similarity -- the Russian word KHOLOD and COLD.
Even though Russian is my native tongue.
    So remarkable!
And yes, it means a lot more than just "low temperature".
