    Alright Chris... I vote your video the best video on changing a Light Bulb on a Saturn Vue. Thanks for the tutorial and I'll remember to have a beer handy too!

    Thank you so much; I managed to do this with my 7 month old strapped to my chest thanks to your super simple video! I hate those garbage plastic screws. Just wanted to add that in there. For the record I have a 2010 Saturn Vue and it was exactly the same!

    THANK YOU!!! What a great sense of humor! I can see how those little screws are a pain, but your video made my job sooo much easier.. I have not drank beer consistently in years but now I may just start to do it more so just because I CAN!!! :) FYI I have a 2008 Saturn Vue and your directions were consistent with my car as well..

    Wow, thanks for this video. I got about half way there and was stuck at the plastic POS plugs. They looked like small screws, but there isn't any threading on them to have them unscrew. Watching this video saved me enough frustration I didn't need the pint of beer :). I'll save it until later tonight :).

    Exactly what I needed in order to do this repair. The manual that came with the car is actually for the previous year apparently when it was held in place by screws and a push-clip.

    Hi Chris, I was wondering if you know if there are any 2009 Saturn vue that require the front bumper to be removed to change any of the lights in the front because my local mechanic said what was needed to be done and it cost me extra. Thanks for the video.

  • @hartwood9078
    @hartwood9078 6 років тому

    Those plastic fasteners are push pins. In the plant they just push in, the Phillips head is to back it out. You shouldn’t need to take the screw all the way out, only enough to pry the whole thing out. When you re-install them just push the screw in. Good video!

    Hi Caveman. I'm not a mechanic but I didn't see any lights that required the bumper to be removed. it may be the fog lights on the bottom but even then you would think you'd be able to get to them from under the car. I did not have these lights on my model of Vue, so I can't speak from experience.
    With that being said, I do know that some Saturn cars did require the bumper to be removed to just change the headlight bulbs. My wife had an Saturn Aura that required this. So we just flat-out sold the car. That's one way to change the headlight I guess. Get rid of the car altogether.
    So my only guess is that the mechanic is assuming that the Vue will need its bumper removed in order to change any of the lamps, but hasn't really done his due diligence and finding out that this model of Vue does not require this.

    You can actually go under the fender to get to it that way I've done it before it's a lot easier than trying to remove the headlight cover their screws you got to take out to get to it and turn you have to divorce turn the tires to one way or the other depends on what side you need to get to

Really helped with showing what to do, but there was nothing could really help those F&@^#^* damn plastic pieces of chit screw things. Turned a 10 minute job into an hour..... and yes, I forgot to put one of the caps back on also. Luckily I had only screwed the main bolts back down, not everything.

    It's nearly 2 years later, how well have the Ultra's been holding up in the Vue, my bulb finally gave way at 130k, time to change the bulbs....

    • @ndc1utch
      @ndc1utch  7 років тому

      Not all that well. I think I started changing bulbs every year or so because they kept blowing out. Although I was not using the bulb grease like I should have. This last time I changed one of the bulbs I did use it, so we'll see how long it lasts now.

    • @kartboarder22g17
      @kartboarder22g17 7 років тому

      Thanks for your reply, that is what I read from other reviewers that they get about a year. To me that is pathetic as I understand the light is better than standard, but I've owned my car for 5 years now and this is the first time I'm changing the bulb. Also possibly the first time the bulbs have ever been changed on the vehicle as it is a 2008 and I bought it with 43k. So, as far as bulb grease goes, you mean on the terminals? That won't make any difference if that is what you mean. I work for a industrial connector company and your multiple removal of the connector will only increase resistance at the terminals at worst case which will decrease the power to the connector(probably increasing the life of the bulb actually at a cost of a little less light. As far as I know grease is basically put on those to seal up around the connection points so it will not corrode. Yet grease is actually an insulator, so current is not going through the grease it is just keeping the touch points isolated from whatever is outside, ex. water etc. Yet the Deutsch connector with the silicone seal is plenty enough to keep any water etc. away from the terminal points. I'll look for another option, maybe the middle ground Sylvania, as I believe that is better life.... This upsets me though because obviously Sylvania is making a bulb that is setup to burn out earlier. More bulb changes, more money in their pockets and whatever the automaker gets is probably a top of the line non-consumer unit that lasts for these 5+ years, heck maybe 9 years....

    • @ndc1utch
      @ndc1utch  7 років тому

      The grease, from what I've been told, is basically to prevent the bulb from shortening out due to moisture. I agree though, the cap with the O ring, or the connector itself should keep water away from the connectors. But I do notice condensation or moisture on the inside of my headlights. So I used the grease this time as a

    • @kartboarder22g17
      @kartboarder22g17 7 років тому

      Yea if the ground was bad then the current going thru the filament decreases, and therefore the light decreases and the bulb should run longer. Basically I see it two different ways, either the quality has really dropped or the company is trying to make them drop off earlier. I've been noticing this with house bulbs they don't last anywhere close to where they did when I was a young kid. It almost makes it a no brainer at this point to buy LEDs, because I get tired of changing the bulb so much. I'll agree the stock light on my Vue kinda stinks, it seemed weak when I bought it and compared to my 2004 Accord or my Wife's Malibu the stock light on those was a little more. Yet, I don't want to change bulbs over and over. Therefore I'm gonna call the dealer up and see if they have the stock bulbs. When I check online it says they are discontinued. With my Wife's car I only replaced the 1 bulb on her drivers side that burnt out at about 130k. I put in a basic or the one level above that for Sylvania. So far it is holding up and the car is at 150k, but to replace bulbs on that I had to remove the entire front bumper and it is a huge pain. I read somewhere where someone replaced their bulbs twice on their Malibu due to using what your using and finally the 3rd time took it to the dealer, and the dealer told them the bulb ran too hot for the design of the enclosure. This could be the case, so I'll just deal with stock brightness and hopefully get new bulbs put in that will get me another 100k, the car should be long out of my hands by then.

    • @kartboarder22g17
      @kartboarder22g17 7 років тому

      I bought the dealer bulbs and put them in this weekend. Everything was pretty simple, except removing the lens assemblies as they have so many contours on them that lock in with the body I had a heck of a time removing them. At least they went back in place quite a bit better. The dealer bulbs are not OEM part number as that part number has gone obsolete. I'm hoping guessing because they were an inferior product in some way shape or form. The new bulbs seem brighter than the old bulbs, equal to my Wife's Malibu in brightness. I'm not sure if it has to do with being brand new or if the new bulbs are just brighter. Either way I'm happy with that outcome. Cost per bulb was 20.7 before tax so they weren't that cheap that's for sure. Now just need to wait and see how long they last. One thing I noticed was the moisture in the lamp assembly and I don't know if it was there before I opened them up or if by opening them the moisture got pulled in. Either way hope that doesn't shorten my life. Time will tell I guess.

      I also recommend after-the-fact to use some of that dielectric grease on the light bulb connexion. Because I never used any I had to keep replacing my bulbs because water would get in and eventually burn the ball back out.
