I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and travel a couple of times a year to Preko, Croatia (where my parents live). I started painting in 2012 and focused on abstract art in the summer of 2015. Haha...yes, I'm a pro at over-doing it! Glad you enjoyed the video and that you'll be giving it a try!
I'm more attracted to the image on the work table, that's created in the process of other works.
Cool! Thanks for watching, Tom!
I appreciate these exercises - please do more! thanks!
Awesome! Glad you liked it. I'll plan on doing some more! Thanks, Roxanne!
I enjoyed these little exercises. They may help get me out of my head. The color scheme is lovely!
Wonderful! Give it a go, Tammie!

Thank you and I'm so glad I can be of help to you!
Thank you Betty! As always, I am so inspired to go create. This video reminded me about staying loose and playful with my painting. I appreciate you sharing with all of us.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks so much for watching!
This looks like a great way to get going without the fear of “ruining anything “ must give it a try.
Right?! No fear! Just get in there and have fun!
Love your creative adventures. Thank you for inspiring me in many ways... Wild, Colorful, Fun, Inspiring, Enchanting, Exciting and Helpful.

Hi Mimi! Thank you for watching and I'm so glad you enjoyed it! And, thanks for asking about my mom. She's still settling in (as is my dad).
Hi Betty, Thank you for this video. I love your work! I loved your commentary at the end. This was very helpful.

Love this! I’m very inspired to pull out the supplies and start! Please keep these videos coming!!
Yay! Glad it inspired you, Teresa! And thank you for the feedback. I'll plan on making some more like this.
Beautiful and inspiring as always Betty! Love the colors -- the finished piece really does look like your stylized field of flowers -- thanks too for the quiet :)
Yay! Glad you enjoyed the quiet time. Sometimes, I feel like our world is too noisy. Happy to hear that you liked the video!
Thank you so much for sharing your process! I love your work! I would love to see more videos like this! I’m definitely inspired!

Hi Leanne! Glad you liked it!
So lovely aah! You paint so free way! Color palet also wonderful ✨🎨
Many thanks! I hope you'll give it a try!
Inspiring and I like the silence and just observing. Happy you're back home. Hope your mother is doing well in her new surroundings. Also, your pop is handling solitude well.
Thank you so much! It's good to be back, but at the same time, hard to be so far away from my parents. They're both still settling in to a new routine. Thank you for asking!
Hi Betty, I have been stuck for a few days. Watching your warm up exercises has gotten me going again. First I must straighten my work area and then I will be ready to start 4 small paintings. Thanks for the inspiration. It is because of you that I started using acrylics, Nova colors are wonderful!
Yay! Love that you're going to give this a try. I know that straightening out my space gives me more peace, which helps me focus on creating. Have fun doing this with your Nova Color Paints, Kris!
Always sooo beautiful !!!
Thank you!! I appreciate your kindness!
So good to see you back on here!
It's been a crazy few months. It's good to be back! Thank, Becky!
That was fun
Wonderful! Glad you liked it, Lenore! Thanks so much for watching!

Wonderful video! I love doing warm ups and your idea to do them small in multiples is great. Thanks so much for sharing your process!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
I love this video. I'm a fiber artist but could use some many of your tips and tricks in my work. Thank you so much. I just resubsciribed to you. I had all but given you up. Love love love your work!!
Thanks for coming back, Sara! Sometimes life gets in the way of creating, editing, uploading videos. Trying to get back on track again!
Thank you, Betty. So happy to see your video today. Your first layers indicate an evolved sense of the wildness of your "fields of flowers". We painters don't survive on sameness forever and you lead the way for so many to test our wings.
Thank you for that message, Ann! We're always evolving!
I love the warm up! Very helpful to listen to how you wanted to add or fix the paintings to complete them!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks so much, Marcia!
Great process video...I really appreciated seeing your thought process! ❤❤❤
Glad you enjoyed it, Melissa! Thank you for being here!
Yeah!!! You’re back. I’ve really missed your videos. The commentary at the end, critiquing each piece was so helpful❤❤
Glad you liked it!
Good exercise Betty. I have to say I missed the usual commentary the first half of the video. It's what makes the videos work.
Good feedback, Stacey! Thank you!
Hi Betty, thank you. First video where I tried to paint with you. About my 4th time trying to paint intuitively. I only painted 2 with you on 5 x 7. I definitely paint too tight, and my stuff looks very geometric, not flowy or flowery. I am definitely going to take your class in the future (soon). Again, thank you.
So glad you're painting along, Kelli! It wall takes practice--especially the part about loosening up! Hang in there!
Really enjoyed this Betty, thank-you. And yes, I agree with others...more please!
You got it! Thanks for the feedback, Janet!
Loved watching your decision making in the moment. I’m fighting the mind habit of trying to control. So I found your approach to be so enlightening.
Yes, totally understand! Sometimes we need to loose control and just have fun...no matter the outcome. 3 of the 4 didn't end well, but that just means I'll need work on them a bit more. Not have expectations of the outcome is part of the process of letting go. Have fun, Kris!
Thanks for the inspiration! Your enthusiasm helps. Are you doing this as a business for how long?
Glad you liked the video! I have been a full time selling artist for about 5 years.
great work as usual...you have the whole package
Thanks so much!
I’m new here and new to painting. I love what you did and how you did it!!
Thank you!
Wonderful
Thank you!
Great to see you in action. Very relevant to my struggle to achieve looseness. Thank you❤
Super happy to hear it was helpful, Kris! Thanks for watching! I just posted a new video. Check it out!
Love the 3 little people to the right in your painting :-))
Haha...we all see something different. I only see flowers!
I love what you dd Betty! And I especially loved the one you completed! Beautiful work, inspiring and yes more please!❤
Hi Pam! Thanks so much! Glad to hear you enjoyed the video and you want more. I'll plan on making more of them.
Ho yes please, do more of thise exercises! Thanks A LOT 🙏
Thanks for the request!
Thank you, Betty! So helpful to see your thoughts about composition. Love these!
You are so welcome! Glad you liked the content, Michelle!
Hi Betty,
Thank you so much for doing this. I cant begin to tell you how much I need this. Thank you!
I'm so glad!
Nice
Thanks so much!
I love these little videos so much 💙🎨 Thank you Betty
So glad! Thank you for watching!
Love your process and the end result. I will give it a try!❤
Yay! Thank you! Have fun creating, Linda!
Milá Betty. Dobrý večer. No, poviem vám, že tieto obrázky sú skvelé. Úplne upokojujúce. Gratulujem. Tam, kde si farby miešate vidím, že je to dobré. Pá. Susy.😊❤
Hi Susy! Thank you so much for watching!
Thank you. So helpful!
You're very welcome, Shirley! 🥰
Thank you Betty. Although abstracts are not something I personally enjoy doing, this looks fun and relaxing. How do you choose your colours? Just how you feel at the time?
Yes, I'm also wondering how you choose your colors. I know you said it was random but the colors do meld well. And how did you pick what paint to use? You have varied values, etc.
Yes, I just grab colors based on my mood! Thanks for watching!
Hi Laurie! I just randomly pick colors. For these, I included a warm yellow to balance the other colors. Plus, it makes a great green when mixed with the turquoise!
This was really great and helpful. Thank you so much for sharing your process. I love your work.
You are so welcome, Shawn! Glad it was helpful for you!
Love how you work and your outcomes! xx
Awe...thanks!! I appreciate you watching and leaving me a sweet comment!
Yes, loved this, gonna try it! thanks

You are so welcome! Thank you for watching and commenting, Deborah!
Hi Betty, I like having the four sections. I think my mind is like those four sections. Meaning so many patterns come into my head. This is a great exercise. I will experiment with this lesson. Kathleen
take care.
Wonderful! Glad you enjoyed it. Have fun experimenting, Kathleen!
Thank you for the inspiration of play and warm-ups!! Needed this today 🎨🎨
So glad!
Funvideo. Lov3d it. Great results.😊😊😊
Yay! Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
very informative. Thank you...more of these please
Yay! Glad you enjoyed it. I'll be creating more soon!
👏👏👏
Yes
More please
Wonderful! I'll plan on making more of these types of videos. Thanks!
Just ordered Betty’s Bundle. Very affordable. Thank you
Yay! Thank you! Enjoy!!
Love it, love your work. I’m so frustrated because no matter how I try to be free in my mark making and painting, I end up with tortured strokes, overworking it and often muddy colors even though I am dry between layers arghhhh I want to be light and free ha
Don't be hard on yourself if you're learning. It takes a lot of practice to be loose and free! Keep at it, Zoe!
Thanks
You're the best, Janet! THANK YOU so much for your support! 🥰
Like you watch you making marks and having some structure, but basically warming up and playing while you are loosening up! Would like to see the final pieces to see how they turn out. Thank you!
Thanks, Krista! I still need to work on those other ones!
Love these as a way to get going! Please do keep the videos coming. What top coat/varnish do you use? Hope all is well with your parents. Looking forward to your on line sale of works done while in Croatia.
Wonderful! I plan to make more of them. Thanks for asking about my parents. They're hanging in there. Lots of changes for everyone. Email going on on Friday with new artwork. Thanks!!
Betty, WHAT KIND OF 10:33 BRUSHES are you using here in this video? Thanks. Round ones or flat? Size
Honestly, my brushes are so beat up that it's hard to tell! 😂 I believe I was using flat brushes plus my rigger. Thanks so much for watching!
Hi - what brand rigger brush are you using? Thanks, Stephanie
Hi Stephanie! Honestly, I don't know. However, you can find riggers here: www.bettyfranksart.com/my-favorite-art-supplies I bought them current ones I use many years ago! Thanks for asking!
Can I use oil pastels for mark making?
You sure can! I prefer water-based mark making because oil pastels take too long to dry. I'm very impatient!
@@BettyFranksArt thanks a lot. I think I could someday try it
lindo.....
Thank you, Cristina!
I have a question, I'd like to also work on paper but I'm not crazy about artwork that is matted. Is there another way these works on paper can be displayed?
Thanks so much in advance!❤
Yes! You can mount them to wood. Here's a vide from Jane Davies that I use: ua-cam.com/video/uW_WS9QU4eg/v-deo.html
Give it a try!
These would make awesome coasters!
@BettyFranksArt Thanks so much!!
