  • Do you ever wonder why some of us just really love our 3d printers, or why would anyone want a 3d printer? Maybe you have asked how does a 3d printer work? All of these questions I will answer along with fixing a problem many of us have experienced with gaps between our 3d print layers. Over my time using a 3d printer I have run into many different things that have caused these gaps. For this video, I will focus on fixing under extrusion.

    Great job on the video. This helped me tune my Ender 5 plus after upgrading to a direct drive. The walls on my prints would not adhere and would peel like an onion. I had to increase the temp 10 degrees and increased the flow rate by 30%.

    For gaps on the walls in Cura you can set Outer wall flow and Inner wall flow in Material Tab. You can Use 120 to 140% to resolve the issues.

    one thing i learned is that if you were printing ok but suddenly are having first layer problems and inconsistent extrusion, its a partial clog. also get a dual gear extruder.

    thanks for the video. my problem is having to change filiament mid-print, and then the gap occurs. im totally new so im sure theres something im not doing right

      There are probably a few ways to handle this... Though it varies by your machine and slicer. The simplest way is to pause the print (if your machine supports it) and swap out your filament. Some slicers you can have it pause at certain places in the print (I haven't used this feature myself). Hope this helps.

    My issue is gaps in my first layer. For example if my first layer is a square, the top half of the square has gaps but the bottom half has no gaps and is uniform. Not sure why this is happening.

      If I'm understanding what you described, my guess is your build plate is not level. There are some great videos on UA-cam that describe how to level it.

    I think I have this issue but my first lines does 1 to 3 and 4 say sometimes they have gaps do I need more heat for the excursion like I need more fillement coming through?

      @@1937Brett Like gaps between each layer? Sounds like a general under extrusion problem. I would first check your filament dimensions and then check your slicer settings. While in your slicer settings make sure the specs of the filament equal the specs set for it in your slicer.

    i have 2 ender 3 and one prints fine but if i print the same thing on the other printer with same settings the very outer layer delaminates only on the front and back of the item. because it prints fine on one of my printers im presuming its a problem with the printer its self and not a settings issue. any ideas?

    • @wamindustries
      @wamindustries  11 місяців тому +1

      I think you're right to check the hardware of your printer. It could be anything from your bed leveling being slightly off to a possible partial clog in the nozzle. Also, your feeder gears may also be packed with filament so may not be feeding as evenly as it should... There are also probably a few other options.

    Not sure if I missed is it but what tool did you use to measure your filament?

      Calipers. Digital calipers are the easiest to use in my opinion.

      I believe I used a digital caliper... Though a micrometer is more accurate.

    • @wamindustries

      One thing I would check would be your extruder temperature. It might be too cold for your filament. The one reason why I'm suggesting this is maybe your build plates at the right temperature but as your extruder gets further away it's not keeping the temperature high enough. This is also coupled with that you're saying multiple times your bottom layer is great but the other layers aren't fusing together.
