- Over the past year, I've tested dozens of shoes over two-hour long runs. From lower stack non-plated trainers like the New Balance Rebel v4 to beefy marathon racers like the Hoka Cielo X-1, I've done 2 hour runs in every type of shoe on the market. Here are my five favorites and what I look for in a long run shoe.

Triumph all the day. Totally agree on the statement that the shoes feel consistent regardless of the pace or duration of the run.
Triumph is goated
Are you a back heel striker?
As a bigger 200lb runner I'm just in love with the New Balance 1080v13. Some people complain about them being too soft, but man they REALLY save my joints.
I think they’re by far the most comfortable WALKING shoes. But, imo they’re just very non responsive. The foams conforms too much for me. I’m a 125 lb runner so I’m pretty light on my feet and I feel like I work twice as hard doing a regular run in the 1080v13 vs the novablast 3
@@vandal.e6541 That's completely fair. We're obviously built totally different. Lol
I absolutely love the 1080 for up to 90 minutes but prefer a little more bounce for when I'm going 2+ hours and want to throw in some faster pace
@@supwell You're much much faster than me. I'm a beginner runner, I've only been doing this since about December of last year so while I dove in head first and gave tried 7 or 8 pairs of shoes, the 1080v13 really works for my extremely slow plodding paces. 😂
I’m also a 200 llb plus runner ( 228 as of this morning ) but I liked the NB SC elite V3’s too. They were soft but also a good training race day option
I just discovered your channel this week and have watched at least 2/day. Idk how you’re cranking these out with kids but appreciate the info and content!
Ayyy thank you! 🙌🏽
1. Superblast
2. Glideride 3
3. Endorphin Pro 3
4. Evoride 3
5. Boston 12
:)
Absolutely love my EP3's, ran my first HM in them, did a couple 2hr runs in them leading up to that race...just an amazing light and fast feeling shoe that flat footed people like myself can actually use (vaporfly is literally unusable for me because of the narrow midfoot). I grabbed my pair for $40 on FB Marketplace!
The superblast blows away everything! With that said I’m 225lbs and love the new balance sc trainer v2, the novablast 4, new balance super comp v3, and dislike super soft unstable shoes like new balance more v4, 1080v13, all versions of Nike invincibles, and don’t like anything from adidas, but I also have a wide foot
I like the Endorphin Speed 3’s also. Good for wide feet too
Mizuno Horizon 7 ❤ but they are heavy
What size do you go with in the super blast as a wide foot runner? I usually always go 13 wide but I think a 14 would be too big.
@@Run_forklift_run I wear an 11 wide in the cumulus and novablast 4, but an 11.5 in the superblast
1. Superblast; 2. Superblast; 3. SC Trainer v1; 4. Novablast 1 and 5. SC Trainer v2
Also the novablast 3 is awesome too and even cheaper than the 4
You need to try the Superblasts. The best non plated shoe on the market in my opinion. It will change your mind, the novablast 4 isn’t even close
Have you looked at the price?
Done 700km in my Pro 3 , the best shoes ever in my opinion. Will take them to 1000km/600 miles and I am 6'4 and 100kg runner 😂
I’m gonna keep it a buck with you, that superblast is worth every penny imo
The superblast hive really out here today 😂
Am I the only one out here that feels like they’re just not all that? I want to like them so bad but honestly I’ve literally been picking Clifton 9, cloud monster, saucony ride 16 and nimbus 26 or EP3 over them depending on the run.
Just feeling dead to me..
@@owenliyou8887 if they’re not for you, that’s just fine 😊
Im new to running and started with the supercomp elite v3 and I love them but wanted another shoe and got the superblast but they burn my calves out so fast.
Novablast is a great option. Boston 12 could have been a great shoe for nearly everyone if they simply connected the heel collar padding to connect in the back of the heel to prevent heel lift. If I put on socks with extra heel padding, and throw on KT tape on both heels I can get 10-15km out of a run before I have to stop and take the Boston's off and then take a few days for the lace bite to settledown on the top of my feet. Saucony makes great shoes, but again they are not great for heel lockdown for some people.
Heel lockdown is just something that baffles me that companies are not considering as a prime deliverable for a shoe during development. It's so easy to get it right, and getting it wrong can ruin a fabulous shoe!
So true - the upper is such an underrated piece of the puzzle. New balance and Nike seem to consistently get it right for me
For me my 2-3 hour long run shoes are:
Non plated- Superblast & triumph 21
Plated - speed 4 & Boston 12
Love it. How are you getting along with the speed 4 so far?
I know I asked you this so thank you! Love your videos! You’re my fav shoetuber. 😅 I love the pro 3. I got the Boston 12 on sale but only did a few miles in it so far as it seems a little more unstable for some of the gravel roads I run on. Thanks again!
I don’t run on gravel but try and break the Boston 12 in some more once I got to around 50 KM on mine they feel like the foam forms to your foot more. I would think this may give you the feeling of more stability.
💪🏽 I appreciate you!
Also I'll be testing some of the craft shoes soon which are designed for those gravel roads so stay tuned for that
Good timing. I've been thinking about trying to increase my long runs to half marathon distance. I'll see how much life is left on my Deviate Nitro 2 and Novablast 3.
Hey Yowana, daily watcher here, big thanks to your committed daily updates. These videos really keep me running more than I could have thought!
Question: If I don't mind durability (got good deals), is it okay/recommanded to run EVERY weekly long run, maybe even some speed/interval, in Endorphin Pro 3? I hope they can make me recover faster, but also don't want to lose the Carbon plate magic effect (I swear I will wear some non-plated shoes for easy miles.)
i don't mind doing all my long runs in a plated shoe - i just try to make sure i rotate in different types of shoes throughout the week and year. in my experience, the carbon plate magic effect doesn't go away by running more in the race shoes
I am with you 100 percent on not buying an upper update.., not me.
I just picked up the On Cludeclipse for this purpose. Should be on my porch this afternoon. I’ll let you know how to get work!
Priority first the lightweight of the shoes then cushion. After 10miles you will notice the weight of the shoe.
I'm looking forward to your review of the Ride 17!
This is timely, I am phasing out carbon out of my shoe rotation and I also I am starting to do these 2 hour long runs, so definitely need some options
Superblast is a shoe that’s hard to beat especially for a long run. When you own the superblast and the novablast it’s hard to reach for the novablast!!
Thanks, great review! I am now keen to get the Pro 3/4 as my next long run trainers after seeing your review.
Surprise to see the Superblast not included though?
Thanks! I haven't run in the superblast yet
There is a ton of these shoes and none of these for me,but im 62 and back 8n the day we ran in any shoes haha, but now the selection is amazing,I won't say what I like now because we all are diff and stubborn,I have tried a few and 8m sire I missed many but hey I can't afford all haha, but good luck everyone
Ran 1000k in my T20 runshield and they are still fine. That’s excellent value if you can get them when they go on discount. I only wish the drop wasn’t that aggressive but other than that great shoe. Very curious to see what will change for T22.
You may need to update this video if you decide to test the Superblast.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Is FF Turbo too firm for anyone else? Wrecks my legs on long runs. I like everything else about the Superblast.

Work for me very good at long runs , better than Nova
Good review of long run shoes..I find that for short racing the shoe doesn't make much difference..when you get over 10mi everything makes a difference..breathability and how long the forefoot cushioning holds up..unfortunately for me the one I haven't been able to use yet is the Diadora cara cos they're not readily available..the others on the video have all failed to deliver..
Have you tried the cielo x-1 yet? If you need a lot of cushioning that may be a good choice for you
@supwell.. I just got the Cielo x1 and as soon as I can get out there and test it I'm hoping it will be my marathon shoe this year..the rocket x2 is my 1/2 marathon shoe right now..thanks and I really appreciate having your channel that delves into long distance running..great job..
I thought it would be cheating wearing the saucony pro3 for a long run. But if you're doing it, then I might do it this Sunday 😄😁
Just bagged myself some superblast. More ping and much less squidgy than my novablast. Despite looking enormous, it feels light and agile. But for a proper runner like u..... Maybe too much stack
The Diadora Gara Carbon is an awesome shoe. Better than my Adidas Pro 3.
I just got the Diadora gara carbon. It is the gorgeous!
Awesome I remember you were thinking about picking it up - let me know how you like them!
I just ordered the Adidas Boston 12 per your recommendation. I'm looking forward to doing my weekly long runs in it. I like to put some fartlek into my long runs, speeding up to tempo pace at times. I live in Thailand, which has a long, humid rainy season, so the Boston 12's more minimal upper, and great Continental rubber for traction on wet roads, should beat the heck out of what I've been used to in the Asics Novablast 3. We'll see what Asics does in the Novablast 5, so I'll pass on the Novablast 4. The Asics Superblast is ridiculously overpriced, and those rock catchers on the inferior wet traction outsoles need to be fixed before I'd even consider buying them at regular price.
Can you please suggest the shoe size for the Gara Carbon. I wear the US mens 10 in Saucony Endorphin pro 3 and Adidas Adios pro 3. I enjoy your presentations and enthusiasm.
I went true to size in my 10.5 us mens (same size as endorphin park 3) but other runners have told me they went down half a size because they prefer a snug fit. So if you want it to be tight, you can go down half a size but I went with my normal size
Super Content Again👌
Brother, the answer is always Boston 12. Words don’t do it justice.
🙌🏽 my guy! agreed
Any idea when you will get/test the Superblast?
Had the novablast 3, great shoe but over 1/2 marathon distance or faster pace/race day its abit too squishy and saps my energy (but protective and comfy). what do you think about the Puma deviate nitro 2 or magnify nitro 2 for long distance? i kinda like the firmer and bounciness nitro
I like the puma deviate nitro 2 but it doesn't feel as cushioned as other plated training shoes especially for long runs - the non plated velocity nitro 3 feels more cushioned and supportive and is definitely on the firmer side. I took the velocity nitro 3 on a 22 miler with marathon pace and it was awesome for that. Boston 12 would also be a good choice if you want a firmer plated training shoe for long runs. I haven't tried the magnify nitro 2 yet
I personally would never recommend a plated shoe to anyone who’s simply looking for a daily trainer especially on u gonna spend 2hours or more in
Love your content, what would you say is a top 2-3 best shoe for 5’9 200 pound male
I’m 5’11 200. And my favorite shoe is the endorphin pro 3 and you can get it on sale now. Though the novablast 4 is very comfortable and longer lasting than the endorphin pro 3. But will say what works for me may not for you.
2 hours or longer means New Balance More v4 for me!
Do you think you could use the Mach 6 for a longer run like this because of the increased stack or does it still bottom out
I've taken them 90 minutes/12 miles so far and they've been great. No bottoming out over that distance but will let you know once I take them to 2+ hours. They definitely feel more cushioned than the Mach 5 though
And you have not tried the Superblast
Hey I found your channel recently and I have watched a bunch of your videos. I’ve always used a neutral comfort/cushion shoe, currently using a Nimbus 25 (wide). Its very comfortable even on 20-28 mile long runs but its lacking a pop. It feels heavy and slow during long runs. I also use an endorphin speed 3 for speed work but I find it to be too narrow. I’m looking for a good shoe set for long runs/speed work but I honestly get confused with so many options. I run as a hobby not really for racing. I’m more comfortable with wider shoes or at least shoes that don’t have a super narrow toe box. Any suggestions for replacing the speed 3/ nimbus 25? I’m 145lb size 10.5-11 and do 50-80 miles a week. appreciate the videos!
Glad to hear you've been enjoying the channel! My favorite shoe for long runs and speed work is the Adidas Boston 12 - it also opens to have a nice and roomy toe box. I've taken it 2+ hours and it's just as comfortable doing that as doing top-end speed work. It will feel a lot faster and lighter on foot than the nimbus - it does require some break in though and will feel a little firmer than the speed 3 especially at first. Another shoe I've been testing recently that a lot of runners love for long runs and speedwork is the Asics superblast - so far I've preferred the Boston 12 but I'll be doing a long run test of this soon so stay tuned
amazing video, the Novablast 4 will be consider as a mild stability shoe?
Yes definitely - it's one of the most stable neutral shoes that I've tried
@@supwell Good, I just added to the Cart hehehehe
Is the Endorphin Pro 3 grippy in wet conditions?
Yeah the Saucony grip is pretty solid. I've run with them in the rain and haven't had issues. Not as good as puma and adidas but I wasn't slipping around either
Have you tried the Mizuno Wave Sky 7?
Not yet - only mizuno I've tried so far is the wave rebellion flash 2. That's on my list though
5:29 start after the intro
Can a consider New Balance Fuelcell Rebel V3 for long runs?
I tried it for a few long runs last summer. If it's your only option it'll be fine, but if you're buying a new shoe for long runs specifically I would go for something more cushioned. Any of the shoes on this list will be a lot more comfortable at the 2 hour mark than the rebel
Now if only you could get a diadora coupon code. 😂
Hahaha now that's an idea
Im struggling with finding my first racing shoe. I have wider feets and at narrow shoes I feel a pressure at my 5th toe. Anyone recommendations?
A lot runners with wider feet love the New Balance SC Elite shoes. v3 is a little softer and more forgiving (also can be found on sale for $150 or under in some place) while v4 is firmer and faster
@@supwell thanks, those were at my watchlist, so good to hear it from you too!
Is it even worth buying a pair of Triumph 21s if my Triumph 20s won’t ever die? Lol sounds like y’all get 600 miles easily in your Triumphs
Triumph or Novablast
If you need/want stability then Novablast. If you want more of a bouncy ride then Triumph! Just make sure to get the 20 or 21, not the 22 😂
superblast ..
17:15 maybe you should just give it to me
Yo I need Endorphin Pro 3. Give it to me or I steal your bread
Favorite underwear? LOL mine all ride up and I’m constantly pulling them down!
I usually wear shorts with the built in liner! Other than that uniqlo or old navy - keep it simple 💪🏽
