My favorite type of serve on the deuce side!

great slice serves. you do pronate on contact, but just about half way, then you finish cradling the racquet into the body which feels like supination, but it was pronation that sent the ball away...just not full pronation.

viktor123k I agree there is a small amount of pronation that naturally occurs but I focus solely on the supination to the left so I can create more leftward curve after the ball bounces.

I guess this needs a clarification that the guys you mentioned at the beginning of the video, Federer, Thiem , Sandgren do pronate on their slice serves. But I see your point, at lower levels supination should still work.

Yucel Guldali yeah I have used pronation to hit that hard wide serve in the deep corner of the box. I didn’t start getting the ball to land shorter in the box and breaking off to the left until I tried to supinate. I know it’s against common serve beliefs but I’ve been having some nice success with it.

I know, a good coach told me that supination slice would definitely work even up to 5.0 level but all pro players hit pronated slice serves.

If you supinate, you would give your serve away by having to toss so far to the right. I also think supinating slows the ball down. Your opponent can then cheat to the right and just wait for ball to slice wide. But I agree that at the lower levels this would work. I pronate on all serves as it is consistent with my drop and my toss stays the same for flat and slice serves.

A serve I hit really well is the short angle out wide. I keep my toss from left to right in the same place as my flat serves. From front to back I toss it further in front as Todd talked about. I supinate which does slow the ball slightly allowing for the short angle of the slice. My serve is not readable. It’s a great serve Wally you should try it. -Jordan

@@JordanCoons But Todd says to toss it to the right. I will trust that you are right and toss in front. My slice is pretty sharp already but I will give this a try even though i think supinating will feel unnatural. Thanks.

you don't need to curve your swing and body inside that way to create a spin out wide. that's like saying you need to come over and down on a groundstroke to create top spin.

That’s not what the pro’s do . They still use the same ball toss as every other serve , they still hit “up” on the ball with topspin but they hit the “ topspin” serve more edge on to create side spin. If you don’t hit topspun sidespin you can’t generate enough downforce to hit the serve short in the box for consistent angle or create enough pace through the air . What you’ve described is club level slice that comes through at 65 mph and can be read off the toss. Great for aceing mid week ladies but it won’t get you to the Australian Open .

When left handed pros hit the wide can opener serve on the ad side...it's not a supinated slice, but a kick serve?

why is there always one person that complains about disguise? Many 4.0-4.5 guys just pop up the return or shank it. I stand in the middle box when going outwide but I can also slice down the T and into the body to keep my opponent guessing. Most people are not playing federer on the pro tour so this works just fine.
