I’m in the same position. I think the Dual Sport’s greater versatility is what is making me lean more towards it. I’m just a recreational/fitness rider. Did you finally choose one of the other? If so, how are you liking it?
@@OxibaseIn the end I tested this bike, an FX 3 disc, and an FX 4 sport (almost $1000 more), as you can guess I chose the FX 4 sport. The carbon fibre frame is miles above the aluminum - mostly in terms of comfort on gravel and light trails, and I can always swap to different tires if I want more/less grip.
Thanks for taking the time to make this video as there aren't too many of them showcasing this net new bike. I am in the market for a dual sport (ex. Trek, Giant) I just learned the bike got a new make over so i wonder how it compares to its previous generation. Would you mind sharing your impressions as your wife got the one with the front suspension. Your feedback is appreciated and enjoy it in great health. Cheers mate!
Thanks for this review. I've got one on the way, should be here Tuesday 1st October hopefully. Your riding style for this looks exactly what I'm buying for - lanes and gravel - plus I cycle to work every day rain or shine and have had enough of the skinny tyres on my current worn out hybrid. I'm sure my wrists will thank me too haha. I much prefer the colour of your bike to the one I've ordered but I'll live with it 😁
great review; well put regarding it's 'go anywhere' versatility. i demo'd this today at the store, felt great hopping on/off curbs. i demo'd some of the fx series (nice, though less stable with the smaller tires) and popped a tire simply going up and down the same curb. dual sport is simply more fun
I have the Trek dual sport +2 e commuter which is lovely to ride with or without the motor. This bike looks very similar (but 5kg lighter) so I am keen to try it out just out of curiosity. Thanks for the review.
Thanks, respect from Viet Nam, I was considering between ds2 and ds3, but after watching your vid, I would like to go for ds3 and replace the crank to 46T for speed ❤
I have the gen 4 and I agree sometimes the 40T chainring isn’t enough…I think Trek pricing the gen 5 at €1079 is nuts. Not worth that money - they aren’t even shipping with shimano brakes in Europe, opting instead for the cheaper tektro..
That's mostly why I got the dual sport 2. I think the dual sport 3 and 4 use 40T, but dual sport 1 and 2 use 46/30 (for both gen 4 and gen 5). Not sure why it's like that.
I think Trek’s plan is to gradually phase out the cumbersome 46/30. I’m used to a 3x, so it was extra hard for me to move to a 1x…In the end I went with the better tyres/rims and the derailleur clutch mechanism of the DS3
Good review. Would have liked to hear more how you found it for riding on the ground where you did the review. It's clearly off road, not an MTB trail and Im interested to know how these bikes 'feel' on such surfaces. Trek seem to be making the higher versions of the DS into virtually an FX so Im a bit confused why they need the 2?
FX is more geared towards a sporty ride and ergonomics of them are more of a core workout... or supporting body weight with arms for a less comfortable position. Tire options are limited to a max of 42mm. It's basically a road bike with flat bars. Dual Sport is more upright and a better ride (my opinion). If I had to summarize it- think more it as a rigid fork mtn bike with 2" hybrid tires.
Can you measure the distance between the front forks where the top of the tire is? I wonder if I can put this tire on an 2024 FX3? Maybe the rear part of the frame as well….top of tire (split down tube) and behind the crank?
Yes I did. I feel DS has a bit more upright riding position which I like. Also it’s a newer model with cleaner cable routing which looks better. Also I prefer the wider tires on it which absorb bumps better. In the end both bikes have very similar components and similar weight. Fx maybe faster on pavement so if you’re mostly riding on paved roads then go for Fx. But for off road DS is better choice
@@imransadventures That's a great review, thanks! I'm torn between Trek Dual Sport, Trek FX 3 and Giant ToughRoad, but I might end up with what you have. It's so cool to finally see someone on YT who seems to have the same needs as me. Keep up the good work man :)
@@samochoa6733 I’m 5.8. I would suggest to use size finder on trek website as height is only one aspect. They will ask you for other measurements like inseam etc to get a better idea of what frame size would be best for you
@@imransadventures I like the bike. Can you tell me if Dual Sport 3 gen 5 internal cable routing make noise when you ride it over bumps or on rough road ? My Trek FX3 (2022) did make noise.
Fx would be faster on the pavement and smooth surfaces. But you can’t take fx on rough surfaces like loose gravel, muddy trails etc. so it all comes down to your riding habits. If you’re not crazy about speed DS is all terrain bike and opens up more possibilities of riding off road
Thanks for taking the time to make the review Imran! Trying to decide between this bike and the FX seriers

One of the most amazing and smooth rides I've experienced
I do like the weight savings with the new fork but at the same time miss the suspension which no fatter tire can replace in really bumpy situations.
I found a gen 4 for sale at my lbs. I jumped all over it, it was also on sale.
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video! Im looking for one like this for my wife and appreciate your honest opinion

Just saw this bike in my Baltimore Trek Store. I will be buying the same ds 3 in black olive

hi Imran im currently cycling on a E.mtb , does this bike feel heavy to pedal at roads?
Hi, thanks for the feedback, could this bike used for touring
Why does the chain name noise on the back derailer?
Sir if the tyres are fat so what do you think what is the change between mountain and ds3
Thanks Imran

Thanks in advance
Don’t find much difference I updated to gen 5 !
Ok - Gen5 have three models 1/2/3 is there any major difference

What is the price.
Can you tell how to identify the size in the cycle? Is there any mark of size in the cycle?
There’s a sticker on the frame with size
Would you say this is a comfortable upright position?
Yes at least for me it's very comfortable
Vs the dual sport 2, this is much better for the money you pay?
O i must buy the dual sport 2 . wich its better ?
it depends, main difference is ds 3 has 1x drivetrain vs ds 2 has 2x, i prefer simplicity of 1x so that's why i went for ds 3.
