A Song of Ice and Fire / Game of Thrones Author George R. R. Martin on Elden Ring. Elden Ring is an upcoming videogame developed by FromSoftware. The game is a collaborative effort between game director Hidetaka Miyazaki and George R. R. Martin. We recently saw a new trailer for the game along with gameplay during E3 2021
I bet he was thrilled when he learned he was collaborating on a project that would allow him to kill the audience this time around.
Dream project for him. Everybody dies hundred of times.
😂
Amazing 😂😂🤣

GRRM: This NPC will die here, which makes a shocking moment to the player.
Miyazaki: The player will die here, which makes a shocking moment to the player.
Best combo in history
The Player: I will die here, which is a very typical moment
If you blindly do all the questlines, all of them will die T^T
@@user-uz9ko1bu6q I was confused at first, I thought I was doing something wrong because all my NPCs kept disappearing or dying
He did not have that much influence on the game...
The fact that he couldn’t name it middle earth so he literally called it “the lands between”😂😂😂
Reminds me of that episode of South Park where Randy works on a broadway play titled, “Splooge Drenched Blowjob Queen” and one of the playwrights says to name it, “The Woman in White” to maintain the subtext
You know Tolkien didn't come up with that? He got the idea from the Norse Midgard the human realm
@@bruderschweigen6889 ah that makes sense. Thanks for the explanation I don’t know when or if I would have made that connection.
@@bruderschweigen6889 except elden ring like dark souls clearly draws a lot of influence from Tolkien. Like the trees sharing a lot in common with Telperion And Laurelin from Aman from the Silmarillion.
Yeah, we like it though.
Fromsoft: So we're making a game.
GRRM: Can characters that people care about die?
Fromsoft: Actually, we'd like around 80% to 90% of any character you might form any slight bond with die, suffer horribly, or have an ending that makes the player really sad ... or all of those in no specific order.
GRRM: Say no more.
i legit thought that they would be a match made in heaven

> dies 20 times to asylum demon
"I don't really consider myself a video gamer"
It's canon now.
I can imagine him saying "sooo, this happens to the protagonist here too, I'm in"
You made me laugh thank you

"Where is winds of winter?"
George: "Please play Elden Ring and die a thousand deaths."
Its not coming he started in the 1990s and new fans from Game of Thrones really turned him away along with new trends and people expecting so much from writers now
@@allisamazing3895 To add to this, the series had a very clear progression from book 1 all the way through to book 3. After that, there's all these unneccessary ancillary characters and redundant POV chapters and a faint thread of a plot, compared to the multilayered web of the first three books. He's just spinning his wheels, because he didn't control the "seeds" he planted or cull the amount of POV characters. He didn't know where to go after ASOS. Sure books 4 and 5 had some great moments, like the theon, davos, cersei and jaime chapters in Dance, or Cersei's ego getting the better of her and her walk of shame, but mostly the books felt bloated and did little to progress the overall narrative.
@@BL-mf3jp basically, he ran out of ideas. Always happens when writers come with such a great storyline that in the end even they don’t know how to end it properly.

@Shin Shaman Ummm... So do you agree he isnt finishing ASOIAF because thats what i was saying. I dont play games like this so i wont be spending my money but hey to each their own the game has been teased a while and i hope people find it enjoyable if not oh well
george didn’t work on the story but rather the foundation (tarnished, lands between, and names of characters) miyazaki and his team crafted such amazing levels and gameplay. truly a great mixture of creativity
If George wrote the story the game would never have come out, world building is his strenght but writing plots he gets the biggest writers block
@@wile123456 My personal theory is that Jaime Lannister was originally intended as Azor Ahai, as was famously blown up by tons of media outlets before season 8 came out. The showrunners also had a falling out with George and this is public knowledge. Now, with my tinfoil hat on, I think the showrunners decided to run the show into the ground while also paying different media outlets to pick up the reddit post about Jaime being a Targaryen, effectively ruining the show and the books that George was yet to write.
I mean, Jaime coming across as the villain for the majority of the first 2 books, only to find out he was the hero all along, with Bran being the true villain... it would be the most poetic turn of events ever. A reader could go back, look at the beginning and realize that Jaime Lannister nearly saved all of Westeros by trying to kill Bran, who would eventually, through his powers, become the leader of the army of the dead...
The fact that Jaime Lannister sat with Joffrey and looked at the book of the deeds of the Kingsguard and thought that he still had pages left to fill, to me, is indicative of a heroic mentality. Couple this with the fact that the events of A Feast For Crows show that Jaime Lannister is perhaps the most competent leader in all of Westeros, managing to end a siege without a single drop of blood being shed.
Compare this to Daenerys who thinks with her vagina and is a harsh and ineffective ruler, most of the time, with her leaving mostly a mess across all of Essos. Compare this to Jon Snow, who tragically fell victim to the same pitfalls as his adoptive father/uncle Ned, and who was too idealistic to be a real world leader.
And... the dragon must have three heads.
@@wile123456 World building being his strength, characters included, is such an understatement.
I'm trully amazed by fighting yet another tree sentinel/putrid spirit/crucible knight/*insert a dozen other bosses repeated over and over again just because they weren't able to come up with something original for so many bosses to fill* which of course would feature my faivorite *new* gameplay mechanic - lingering hurtboxes, seasoned with an old classic - input reading. I trully feel acomplished and overcoming myself and totally not getting cheesed by bullshit you only get to know about after dying several times to that, meaning losing is essential to beating the foe and there's no way to apply your general knowledge into it, artificially making the game take longer than it should. So many buttlickers being gaslit into "i've beaten it - i'm becoming better at it - i've accomplished something!" when in reality you're just getting spit in your face, held by two "dudes" i mentioned before, handicapping your experience with the game, and then releasing you at some point, now able to defend yourself, when you could've done it first thing if it weren't for these "dudes". You just can't have that joy of victory when i know my real potential was held back by "writing new rules on the fly" type shit, but for some - ignorance is bliss, that's why i fully expect some ignorant people come bark at me with "HOW DARE YOU IT'S GAME OF THE YEAR GAME OF THE YEAR GAME OF THE YEAR I REPEAT GAME OF THE YEAR UR JUST BAD U SMELL FUNNY" while sitting here with around 20 attempts at Malenia without using magic. Understanding game mechanicaly and that it's not difficulty but just artificial bullshitting moments like how Malenia's input reading you during her attacks, not aiming at you but behind your back, or more accurately to where you're retreating, making her flurry absolutely trivial by just quickly flicking your move stick in opposite direction of you walking before inputting a dodge, making her "prediction attacks" miss you completely, just takes all the fun from the fight and brandishes a big "FUCK YOU" to players who were thought that dodge works a certain way, that no enemy predicts your moves, etc. Props for the visuals and animations, but gameplay wise game is riddled with such unexplained to player bullshit added to each big boss that makes you trip over it and makes you do everything from the start for no reason, inflating game's playtime, like how Placidusax's regular as fuck golden lazer breath one shots you while his literal nuke that blasts OST away from the game and leaves ringing behind, just screaming with effects how destructive it is - doesn't.
@alpha- tomahawk dude we get it. You completely suck at the game and are coping. Nobody cares. At all.
The more I think about this, the more it seems like the most brilliant way to write a fantasy story. Hiring someone to write the backstory lore, then going from there. Genius.

How did you not know that cause that's one of the key highlights of Elden Ring.
Elden Rings world is so fascinating and deeply crafted that I can't help but wonder how much of it as we see today was directly built by Martin himself. Beyond just the main plot beats of the ring itself and the Erdtree, there's so much thought put into the religion and beliefs of the golden order, the lore of the omens and the Dung Eater, and the history of Volcano Manor that itself could make a compelling story, but we also have everything else relating to Scarlett Rot, Raya Lucaria, Limgrave, and so much more to engross oneself in. It's truly a remarkable feat of world building and is not surprise to me that the combined efforts of Martin and FromSoft have crafted possibly the single most engrossing world in video games to date.

For those thinking him calling it a sequel is a confirmation; while it's not impossible that maybe that is the case, I would imagine he meant either it's a sequel in the same sense that Dark Souls is a "sequel" to Demon's Souls (aka spiritual successor of some kind), or he doesn't know that it isn't a sequel in the traditional sense. If he had to work around a currently existing universe, you'd think he woulda alluded to it or if would've been a confirmation Bandai already made as well. Just seems unlikely to me
Good comment, makes sense. Have any other game officials commented on the idea that this is in the same universe as DS? To me as a casual DS fan, it has so many similarities that I just assumed it was a sequel, even though they have said that the dark souls universe will not have any more games.
Miyazaki sayd that dark souls ended in 3, and that was it, and knowing how sacredly he treats his stories i doubt this game is a sequel in any way.

"They're like movies...they take a long time to develop."
Books too, apparently.
Yeah, just ask Doors of Stone and Captal's Tower.
Depends on the writer really but in this case its way overdue what time takes to make a movie.
He has to carefully build the story, for it to withstand time. For re imagining, for it to be told without any plot holes. It's hard, cause someone always comes in and says, well why couldn't so and so do this? And it's honestly annoying, like people enjoy the story but never emerged in it.
Yeah just ask Miura. You can use my ouija board :'(
@@FloresRain I imagine creating all that art is what slowed him down. Must be a lot of effort.
You can tell he's a genuine guy when he says he doesn't really play video games, that he's not a video game person. He's being honest. Sell outs would be all like "I love video games, I play them all the time".
He's already given his views on video games and I don't know what he would gain by lying now.
@Frank Marano this dude does the same spamming on anime videos, he's pathetic
He's a very open-minded guy. He said in some interview that games have real artistic potential, he said something like it's only a matter of time before video games gets their version of Shakespeare or Mozart. It makes sense coming from him, he spent years being a fantasy writer, a medium still seen by some as low-brow and "not serious", so he probably relates to video gaming on that level.
@Shin Shaman who hurt you, you spamming repetitive bot
I think it will be hard to pin down names in the same way as the classical greats, since even now most people could only barely tell you the studio that made a particular game.
Though IMO Raphaël Colantonio (founder of Arkane) deserves that level of recognition. Dude knows how to make a fun game that also tickles at the brain in a good way.
He IS A LEGEND
… his insane pace ..
We hope you'll love finishing it too ;)
I love how level-headed George is. He didn’t ask for the fame, his talent was just too much to be contained.
More like the TV screen can help broadcast your work even if it's not 100% perfectly adapted. Up until the Game of Thrones show launched, I had never even heard of George's book series, much like the majority of people around the globe.
Still, given how he says that fame is a double-edged sword, I guess he just wasn't expecting to get _THAT_ famous until it was too late. Oh well, if you ask me, he deserves his fame for his work. :) _(just gotta find some way to finish the sixth book, though)_
🤣💀🗑
He wanted the fame. He's a part time writer full time convention guest/twitter celebrity.
Why you think he hasn't finished the books? He got rich and famous like he wanted so he doesn't have to anymore.

He's not part of breaking bad, but okay.
So awesome! I had no idea he worked on Elden Ring!
This is just what dark souls was to demon souls. It’s obviously a spiritual sequel. So it doesn’t take place in the same world as dark souls, but the concept is very similar to the OG dark souls. Which… I’m not complaining about
I hope that’s the case.
It’s a breath of fresh air honestly. Flaws and all, I’m really enjoying it and it’s definitely setting a standard for open world stuff going forward. Breaks the monotony of chore list open world games like far cry and horizon zero dawn
