I feel so privileged to have witnessed this moment. Thank you all for sharing it with us and for your tireless dedication to the herd. This little boy has a bright future ahead, thanks to you.

I'm so happy for Phabeni! He's so tiny but so courageous and confident around the big elephants who come visit him! And Lundi, sweet Lundi, is once again so warm and lovely to the orphans and was more than happy to comfort Phabeni. Jabulani's calm demeanour is always reassuring, too. Phabeni's personality is shining brighter day by day, and I can't wait to see more of his development! Thank you HERD!

Moving her leg forward so he could suckle, and the way he instinctively trusted her enough to do so, made my heart blossom with love. ❤ He seems so tiny next to Lundi and Jabu, but he knew he was safe with them. I'm so impressed with Jabulani because he is so calm and patient. He seems to understand exactly what's happening. What a good role model for Phabeni!

This is just some of the most amazing animal behavior and to see it captured on video practically in real time - I feel blessed to see such a thing happening. 💚💚💚Phabeni was so close to being not rescued at all and he seemed so emotionally and physically fragile at first, having been alone trying to protect himself in the bush, and now look at him! What a testament to the hard work, expertise, and compassion of Adine and all the staff at HERD! It's an amazing accomplishment and I wish Phabeni all the luck in the world getting adopted.🤗 It's nice to see some good news in the world.

Oh what I prayed for - and guessed - has come to fruition! Lundi, by allowing Phabeni to suckle, has accepted her new son, typically reversing and moving her leg to help the little bull who delightfully accepts his new Mama! Although Lundi doesn't have milk, suckling is vital to mama and baby for mutual comfort. This is a HUGE step and as always Darling Jabu's presence helped keep the process calm and relaxed!!
I am thrilled for you all. Thank you Lundi - Supermum, Thank you Jabu for your love and support, well done Darling Phabeni for trusting your new Mama. Your little heart must be overflowing. 💙❤️
And Adine, once again you KNEW Lundi would be perfect. She's a Wonderful Mama! God bless you for your superb intuition, knowledge, love and care. Thank you Stavros, Tiger, Joshua, Herman, Khensani and EVERY SINGLE Carer who has played such a vital role in getting Phabeni to this crucial point. And now. Phabeni's new life really moves into a new gear. What a great video for a Friday!! 💙🐘💙🙏🤗👏👏👏🙏

      Hi Jan ~ 😊
Yes, I can only imagine how big everyone's smiles were as they witnessed this ❤️ 😂
Fwiw, 2 years ago at the Cleveland Zoo, a first time gorilla mom rejected her new baby boy. Then he got pneumonia and it looked dicey for little Kayembe.
(Since they're critically endangered, every baby means a lot. )
      Anyway, although
the zoo was prepared to hand-rear him, they knew that it's optimal for another gorilla to care for him, so they put him in a basket to see if a 47 year-old female named Freddie - a 3x mom - would accept him... and she did!
She not only adopted Kayembe but, despite being the gorilla equivalent of an 80+ year-old, she also began to spontaneously lactate for him.
He was still given several bottles a day, but... wow.
Milagro dos was that, then, Kayembe's birth mom saw Freddie with him and began to help with his upbringing and then SHE began to lactate spontaneously. (Enough time had passed where her initial milk supply dried up.)
Today he's the healthiest, smartest toddler gorilla
And the proud half-brother to a 6 month-old sister from another Mum.
If you're interested, Larry's Animal Safari has great videos of the troop.
Didn't mean to write a book, 🙃but this just reminded me of how amazing nature is... 😍 including us humans sometimes.
      Have a blessed day. 🙌 ❤
      PS I'm Brett 🙋‍♀️

@mortalclown3812 Hi Brett! Thank you so much for sharing that incredible story with me. It really is quite amazing!
I feel sad that the females at HERD have to be on contraception but that's the law in South Africa. It would be also wonderful if they could lactate spontaneously. The animal kingdom fascinates me and whilst Elephants are my passion, I care about all living creatures. Furthermore, I think they care for each other in ways that I believe puts much of humanity to shame.
I wish you a Blessed Day also. Take care, Jan🙏

@@janparish7895it is a shame that they have to be on contraceptives. At first I didn’t understand why but it helps keep the peace within the small herd if they don’t go into heat, can you imagine the chaos that would happen if the bulls began fighting?
