Nah, nobody invented rock. And Rock is not entirely R&B. It's a blending of styles that really gave it its' own genre. I hear lots of blues and so&so is the grandmother, godfather, etc. I've heard these other blues songs and most are not what I would call rock & roll. Not saying Chuck isn't rock, but he didn't invent it. By the time Bill Hailey (late 40s) and Elvis early /mid 50s came along, they were introducing elements that didn't exist in blues music (namely Country, Swing, and Pop of the day).

I don't think Rock & Roll was entirely identical to R&B, as there's a split between the two, and why not all rock songs charted on R&B, and visa-versa. It happened around 1955 when Elvis/Bill Hailey introduced country music elements mixed with Blues. Rufus Thomas was right about that. Elvis recorded rock & roll before Chuck did. Elvis had more hits on the R&B charts than Chuck. I also don't think chuck's voice is all that great, but he did have songwriting & guitar playing going for him. Elvis didn't write, but his interpretation of music was lightyears beyond them all.

I'm almost 80 and remember when he was young. He changed the sound, the beat, the timbre and the subject matter of rock n roll. He also created the first youth groupie song ('Sweet Little Sixteen'), and the very first youth protest song ('School Daze'). After him, every rock and blues guitar player had to play his chops in one way or another. He was a genius and the Jimi Hendrix of his day. RIP my Brother.

It's the public who decided Elvis was in that spot since the beginning. Elvis has had more chart activity on multiple genre-charts than anyone else. Who is is gonna have a string of #1 hits simultaneously on Pop, R&B, and Country charts.... biggest solo artist ever, more this on R&B chart than 'your' king Chuck Berry, and we won't even get to international charts. Elvis is the one who DEsegregated our music. After he came along, minority artists were charting on mainstream charts, tv, radio, movies, etc it all became acceptable. I could get into more stats that no one has paralleled, and all of this info is unprecedented....

Regarding that 'some guy' you mention. He is responsible for popularizing rock & roll more than any other artist or music act to this day. He de-segregated our music.... after him, minority artists began charting mainstream, tv, radio, airplay, movies etc. It became acceptable, because elvis fought media and concert venues for the right of expression.
I've hear Little Richard's early music and it don't sound like rock & roll to me (late 40s early 50s). Elvis recorded rock & roll before chuck berry did, know that? By 1955, all these you mentioned were sounding like rock, it all converged that year, and that is why Billboard began the rock era in 55, with a song and artist you forgot to mention......................Bill Hailey. Rock Around The Clock was THE rock anthem. Bill & Elvis did something the R&B artists did not do, they blended Country Music with blues and came up with something new. Not recycled blues.

    Chuck Berry 👍👉💓💓💓
    Lyrics:
Deep down in Louisiana close to New Orleans
Way back up in the woods among the evergreens
There stood a log cabin made of earth and wood
Where lived a country boy named Johnny B. Goode
Who never ever learned to read or write so well
But he could play a guitar just like a-ringin' a bell
    Go, go
    Go Johnny, go, go
    Go Johnny, go, go
    Go Johnny, go, go
    Go Johnny, go, go
    Johnny B. Goode
He used to carry his guitar in a gunny sack
Go sit beneath the tree by the railroad track
Oh, the engineers would see him sitting in the shade
Strumming with the rhythm that the drivers made
The people passing by they would stop and say
"Oh my what that little country boy could play"
    Go, go
    Go Johnny, go, go
    Go Johnny, go, go
    Go Johnny, go, go
    Go Johnny, go, go
    Johnny B. Goode
His mother told him "someday you will be a man
And you will be the leader of a big old band
Many people coming from miles around
To hear you play your music when the sun go down
Maybe someday your name will be in lights
    Saying "Johnny B. Goode tonight"
    Go, go
    Go Johnny, go
    Go, go, go Johnny, go
    Go, go, go Johnny, go
    Go, go, go Johnny, go
    Go
    Johnny B. Goode

Elvis out sold every other solo artist ever, had most chart activity, and did something the blues artists did not do, combined Country Music with R&B, he (and the GREAT Bill Hailey) were the first to do this in the mid 50s. Elvis actually recorded a rock song before Chuck.
