The fact more than half of the offensive command in the game don't deal as much damage as the surges.
When the only viable ways to fight a boss involve cheesing the game's mechanics, you've designed the boss wrong.
You're completely right. And I feel kingdom hearts does this a lot. It's a very good/fun series but I Believe this to be a flaw. Early on it was almost acceptable because there was a "puzzle" to it. So you followed a rhythm to avoid being killed. But then it reaches a point of ridiculousness (even while your on standard mode like tf?)
I believe the logic behind the design of this boss was just throwing in every cool idea they could think of then turning the aggressive dial up to 10.
@chrisluvener173 I haven't played KH3 data org but most of the KH2 data org is just "mash X with basic knowledge of how revenge values work" and that's about it.
I guess KH1 has unique boss designs that force you to respect the mechanics but even then I wouldn't consider anything you do in those fights to be cheese.
@@SomniaCE as a kh2 fanboy, i can say that kh3's data fights are the most fair and well designed fights of the series. because you can't cheese them as badly as the ones from kh2 and you have to earn your openings via a gauntlet of guards and dodges. every remind boss requires genuine skill and knowledge of everything you got

There is nothing that is fair about BBS Bosses because they just break out of combo randomly and don't stagger consistently from attacks. Having game mechanics restricted makes the game a lot dull than it could be. Even though, it was originally a PvP gamr, the devs just didn't bother to put i-frames on the strong commands when doing rerelease, which is sad.
seriously, you could stun lock other players in the pvp with thunder surge or even strike raid, lol. They consistently left you stunned on impact, it was crazy

I will always support content that puts Mysterious Figure on blast. I made the mistake of bashing my head up against the metaphorical wall that was 'PSP Lv1 Birth By Sleep (and Final Mix)', where you inflict chip damage on anything from the late game. (Some bosses even straight up null physical strikes unless they are Criticals or maybe Deck Commands.)
BBS is the only game I haven't done this with, literally brick walled by radiant garden Vanitas or the armor unverse, I enjoy the game casually but geez I wish I could play Vanilla without having to rely on Command Jank or Optimizing, which could just be a literal skill issue but RAAAGH

Fighting him as Terra almost made me break my PSP.
I’m a fool, I know nothing. I take the role of a silly clown. Compared to Touhou battles this isn’t that bad to me. I’m used to dying over and over before I perfect it.
The air stab was pretty dangerous though in the original version. You can’t be careless in this fight so don’t rush into attacks, overall to me it sounds like an unironic skill issue.
Fuck fighting him as Terra though, definitely a painful time for me the first time around but when I redid it on final mix it was easier that time around.

Phaleg imo is Worse. She's the Super Boss in PSO2 I never really struggled with Mysterious Figure, but Phaleg made me wanna bash my head against a wall.

I straight up never beat him lol. Read up about the strategies and thought that sounds boring and just moved to the next game
I recently defeated him as Terra with no surges. It was satisfying. It's sad to say however that while MF is the worst boss,even the others are not good. Armor of Eraqus has attacks that cannot be avoided and make the fight last way more than it should. I still have to beat armor of xehanort,which I unlocked yesterday. The sad thing is you get penalized for trying to hit bosses with basic keyblade attacks,something that kh2 allows all the time basically.

The only redeeming thing about this fight is the divine music that plays in it. I literally screamed with joy when I finally beat him a single time on the PSP, to the concern of my family members.
There is an old rumor that Mysterious Figure was intentionally made this unfair and difficult on purpose because the devs wanted to make a boss not even Nomura could beat
I have a love/hate opinion about this fight.
From one side, the gameplay is badly designed for the countless reasons the community has already talked about for years, there is nothing new here. Defeating him with terra, on critical without commands + other restrictions, made me realize even more how flawed this fight is.
From another side I freaking love the Dark Impetus OST and some of his attacks and movements are visually cool to see, remind me of an overpowered and enigmatic anime villain or something among these lines.

Once made a comment about how much this boss sucked on another vid highlighting what makes this fight so trash, and some dudebro has the audacity to claim that this boss isn't that hard. He could best it with only Cure commands in one go. Because he finds Dark Souls 3 to be easy.

Young xehanort being here makes perfect sense, hes looking for ventus, wich explains why you can only fight him after beating the final boss with aqua.
I still stand by my statement that the Land of Departure is a boring environment for the fight but that makes quite a bit of sense actually. Thanks for clarifying.
@@snakwa i dont think its lame at all, this is where it all started, also i think land of departure looks really cool, he is looking for ventus because they need him to repair the x-blade wich failed in being complete because of ventus and vanitas's battle inside their own combined hearts.
also im not that good with kh lore so take this with a grain of salt but i believe another reason for mf to have time traveled here (i know for a fact he time traveled to he here)
might be to give xehanort a vessel so he can have his own body will still physically being terra-nort at the same time, wich would also correspond with the true organization being able only vessels for xehanort to use after they expectedly die from the seven guardians of light.
also it makes sense for vanitas remnant to be there sonce you killed him there.
also i dont think hes the worst superboss in the series not even close, is rather have a bullshit HARD ultimate boss than a bullshit EASY ultimate boss, compare that to julius where all you need is balloonga spam and a decently high level and you're done even on critical, id rather have this than julius.
also just by his theme alone he beats julius in terms of quality dark impetus SLAPS!
also i think hes not even that bad i beat him second try for both aqua and ventus, havent tried terra yet but i can tell you can actually dodge every single attack (besides the lasers but thats literally just curaga spam) and thunder surge in the right windows, and even if you get hit after a thunder surge leaf bracer exists so just press triangle again and ur good.
my tip is to prioritize curaga over dodgeroll, if you took a hit use curaga's i-frames instead of dodge rolling even if it means taking damage again right after, spam curaga 20 times in a row if thats what it takes to survive you can hardly die by spamming curaga.
simply the amount of moves he has is impressive you simply cant list them all, that alone makes him so unpredictable and exciting to fight.
also about the rv value, first of all rv made you take unavoidable damage wich was fixed in kh3 but your exemple was from kh2 where lingering will whips you every singke time if you want to do full damage.
birth by sleep isnt balanced for rv, he has 6 health bars and a well landed thunder surge does about over half of one, 11-12 thunder surges kill him, what if you could actually do comboes? imagine a combo consisting of 3 thunder surge, that would take it down to 3-4 comboes and hes done, that would end him before he can do much, also thunder surge cant be interupted, so why wouldnt the boss? if birth by sleep has the rv system on bosses the game would be piss easy.
alot of of people praise the "better system" mods or whatever but these mods just make the game way too easy as you can delete half the boss's health before they can attack this game isnt designed around comboes as it would make the game trivial and worse than ballonga in ddd

It still doesn't make sense because when Ventus is hidden here, Land of Departure is transformed into Castle Oblivion.

The annoying thing about this boss is it could have worked so well in theory. A faster paced fight with a relentless enemy with varied moves and ways to disrupt your standard way of fighting. But it's far too much, he's immune to too much, he's made more unfair by having a non-specific loadout, he never stops attacking in addition to creating clones and freezing time etc, etc. This boss is fast for KH2 let alone BBS with it's slower, more limited movement options and reliance on commands. While I think sometimes the revenge system from 2 can make bosses feel kind of formulaic sometimes, it was very good in ensuring there was a nice push and pull between you and the boss. If BBS gave you more effective offensive options that worked on MF it could be fine but it's a slower more defensive game so all you can essentially do is rely on RNG and hope he doesn't bring out a bs combo. Sephiroth from KH2 is a much better execution of this fight's concept, continuous aggression that ramps up as the fight goes on with various attacks that instantly constrain your health and resources. But Sephiroth has clear beginnings and ends to his combos, providing you counter opportunities, his slashing reaction command is a test your paying attention but also always is followed by downtime to heal or counterattack, and KH2 is built around his speed and movement in a way that MF for BBS is not. So yeah, terrible boss all around, imo the worst in the series.
A good magic command that I remember equipping when fighting both Mysterious Figure and Vanitas Remnant: Fission Firaga. It actually can knock both of them up, which can give you a breather, or the AOE can help clear out some of those aforementioned clones. Try it, I think you might approve.
So, I just completely wrapped up KHBBSFM on Steam, right up to the Secret Episode (on Critical Mode). I figure I'd want to go back and beat the Vanitas Remnant and this unknown boss (since the Enigmatic Man and Lingering Will were such awesome secret bosses), but honestly, i want to know... is this boss really worth playing, though?
One strat I used is when you have his health about halfway you can use zacks d-link and block to charge it up and pretty much kill him, and if you don’t in the first try you can use it again before the d-link disappears

beat him with all 3 characters on the original us psp release. terra's was the worst cause you can't spam his slide but his command finish demolition did a good chunk of heavy lifting in doing some safe damage and being invulnerable through it. and i was able to eek out a victory at the very end (barely) with trinity limit don't remember how i got it off safely but once i did i was praying that it would finish him (he was invisible at the time).
Can we talk for a second about MFs combos?
Like... he pretty much one-shots you with the first strike of his combo if you don't have Second Chance/Once More (even then he sometimes just does it anyway).
So why give him 10+ hit combos? Who made this fight?
Yeah i won't lie if you program it to a point it feels it feels like the only way to beat him as Terra is swordbill diceroll with cheese, you need to _scrap it_ osaka team.
The dumbest bit will always be how this fight was specifically playtested to make it this bad. I'd argue the original japanese version is downright better for not having this in, Square sometimes just hates us westeners.(though all international FM players have to feel the pain the same for 100%. Also, I guess we got the better Bravely Second, so that's also a good thing, lol)

People complain about everything, how it couldn't be fun to fight a boss that half of the time is invincible, another quarter is teleporting, an 8th is attacking you, and the last 8th part is invisible.

I remember beating that battle back in high school as only Ventus. I think in normal and easy mode. I still dislike him as I still died by him.
Mysterious Figures shows highlights everything wrong with the BBS combat structure.
I will say that the reknewel block abilitu is probably the best ability to use for these fights.
I really like Mysterious Figure fight in Birth by Sleep, even though this is my favorite videogame, this boss is just BS
Never had the chance to complete BBS nor fight Mysterious Figure, but at the end of KH3 where you had to fight Ansem, Xemnes and Young Xehanort, the first thing Y-Xehanort did was his timestop whip and in that moment, I remember seeing vids of Y-Xehanort in BBS as Mysterious Figure, my mind just went, "OH SHIT! TIMESTOP!" but to my benefit he doesn't do most of his Mysterious Figure combos in that fight, so, whew! xD
I did it at level 1, yeah this fight is THAT poorly designed.
Goes to show how BBS is bad in some aspects.
Honestly (my opinion is probobaly invalid since I'm playing on Proud Mode), but I believe if Birth By Sleep's combat was better to where commands aren't just glorified finishers due to their lagginess, and if you could use them in combos, I believe that this boss wouldn't be all that bad even after everything it has.
I've been trying to beat the boss as Terra, which has... actually been enjoyable... mainly because I've just been testing things, and there's a few things I found out (These are also just strategies that have been working for me)
- You can actually counter the chain/wire he throws at you that traps you in Doom. It heals quite a bit if you have Recovery Block, and if you time it right, you can score a lot of damage off of it.
- You can actually counter his long combo *twice* if you time it right (I've only done this with Terra, so be warned it might not be accurate to Aqua or Ven). Countering the first one or two hits and using Counter Hammer immediately after allows you to not only get a bit of extra damage, but since Counter Hammer has enough invincibility, you're actually able to throw out *another* Counter immediately after the Counter Hammer.
- Demolition, Terra's final finisher is his best friend in this fight, and the Royal Randiance Keyblade is his second best friend. Royal Radiance fills the command style meter insanely quick, and landing just 1 Counter Hammer (whether it does damage or not, as long as it hits MF) can basically fill the meter instantly. '
Demolition is Terra's longest Finisher by my knowledge, and in my opinion, one of the best by far. Since all Finishers give incinvibility/invulnerability, Terra is untouchable for basically 20 to 30 seconds. As long as you save the Finisher for whenever you get into a tight spot, you can basically use it to ignore a lot of annoying sequences. Clones? Not a problem. The spear orbs? They don't last as long as demolition. Raging Storm? No chance.
Since the landing spot of the meteors is also adjustable, Terra can use the meteors to his advantage. You can have them land on himself to destroy clones or get the MF off of you before the finisher ends. Have them land on the MF to interrupt some moves, like Raging Storm. Demoltion has been a god-send for me.
The only problem is it's a tad inconsistent if it hits or not. Sometimes MF dodges them entirely (which is fine, it gets him off of you and away from you), and sometimes he'll actually take damage from them.
- I would wager Thunder Surge is better than Fire Surge. I believe this because Thunderstorm and Rhythm Mixer command style. Not only are the surges good for their invincibility and wiping out clones, but the command styles you get from Thunder Surge is a lot more useful than I thought. I don't know too much about BBS to know *if* they're actually good. Thunderstorm's finisher covers a large area making it good if the MF has his clones out, or is just being annoying. Rhythm Mixer, while I haven't gotten it's finisher yet, I know is a very *long* finisher and covers a very *big* area. What I've been getting is that the longer you have I-Frames, the more chances you have of outlasting this hooded freak.
Pretty sure it's common knowledge that Thunder Surge is pretty much the best out of all the surges to use against him.
Update, Rhythm Mixer's finisher is *really* good, and is able to chip away a huge amount of damage
The only downside being is that he uses Recovery Block quite frequently during it, because Nomura thought it was a pretty good idea to let the super boss heal.
I think it's a cool boss... not everything has to be similar to what you know

The mysterious figure is a poorly designed fight, but I have to admit there are a few patterns you can catch on such as his last raging storm run, he dispels it after the 5th or 6th run
It’s a shame surges are the only good move here
half of mysterious figure looks just like dodge rolling. considering i've beaten (almost) every data fight in kh3 on proud and barely played kh1 and 2 i see that alone as making it shit (yes i know i'm not that good but just stating that being able to dodge roll an entire bossfight like that is a shit design)
Worst? Yes. Hardest no. Yozora is harder but less bullshit. This one just comes down to getting lucky with the BS. however this fight with terra? Might be comparable difficulty wise 😭
I think that I kind of contradicted myself there from the original video. This fight is hard (especially with Terra) but there are harder fights in the series. They are mostly much better designed fights though, so the difficulty is actually part of the fun.
My personal experience against superbosses in Critical mode
From hardest to easiest:
Yozora > hardest kh3 data fights > lingering will / mysterious figure / vanitas remnant > the rest of kh3 data fights > kh2 data fights > kh2 sephiroth.
As someone who beat him at Level 1 without taking damage, I can attest that this boss fight sucks.

@@blaringsea8923 once you defeat the game, you go to the keyblade graveyard, that should get a new place to land called the bad lands, you need to defeat Vanitas remnant once that is done, you go to the land of departure and the moment you land, a cutscene will start and you will fight MF, be sure to have all the treasures from that place before you try to fight vanitas, because every time you land from now on, the fight will be triggerd

Love hate relationship with this fight. Love it cause the music is awesome and Young Xehnarort is my favorite. But it’s also complete bs. Once more failing was my bane.

As much as I love BBS the strats to beat this guy are kinda meh and I beat him with all three characters. I also don't like this boss for another reason. YMX in DDD on original hardware is without a doubt is the worst storyline boss in the franchise in terms of cheap difficulty.
Nah the one on vanilla KH 3 is worse or 3D. (As in is boring as fuck or mediocre)
At least MF has sick looking attacks and that SONG!! the song carries the whole fight.
But yeah I get it like 75% or more of you kit is useless but I seen people beat him with some styles, command and shotlocks, is pretty insane.
I had to do the dodge and thundersurge strategy, Specially with TERRA and with Terra had to be SUPER AGRESSIVE and in critical mode with all 3.
