  • We restart our narrowboat journey on the Stratford Upon Avon canal at Kingswood junction and boy is it hot. In fact today has been declared a 'heatwave' in the Uk. We share with you some tips that we use to stay cool (well as cool as you can be in a black metal box) on our narrowboat.

    Yay for updated pins and hats (and yay for Kath not getting poked in the noggin by the pin back)! And Anna Marie, I was tickled by your comment about car interiors melting - I spend part of August in Nevada every year, where I've had my lab-certified digital meters reading >115F/46C in the shade outside. On a trip to London and Scotland in May/June 2001, Christy and I experienced "extreme" UK spring heat, which meant we were taking off our long sleeved shirts in London in the mornings during our touristy wanderings and tying them around our waists, while people at cafe's and such along the sidewalk melted into chairs and fanned themselves since it was mid80s/30C those days. Considering it was >100F/38C back home at the time, we considered ourselves very lucky with the temperatures. I remember when we left the train in Edinburgh and dug our jackets out of our bags, people were asking why we weren't hot - I think it was maybe 75F/24C when we left the train, but was forecast to cool off that evening. Can't wait to see the painting of the boat/bridge combo @ 12:35. And I was waiting anxiously to see the result of the inspection on the wood from 15:00! Good call on letting the dodgy wood stay on the side, Kath! I use those fans when camping in my small travel trailers, and have had good luck w/ the battery packs lasting overnight on lower speeds when you just want some air moving. Stay safe and hope you have great cruising weather! Hopefully when you make it down to the basin there's plenty of ice cream :)

      England gets disgustingly humid though, it's a different kind of heat. I've heard every nationality say it when they experience it, Aussies, Africans, South Eastern Europeans, all the people who do 40°C for breakfast say that 30°C+ in England is unbearable 🤒😓

    • @seniorslaphead8336
      @seniorslaphead8336 4 роки тому

      @@Camberwell86 Exactly this... folks from hot and dry counties aren't used to humidity. The UK isn't exactly Myanmar, but it's pretty disgusting here when you get much above 30 degrees.

    Naw - that's not heat - THIS is heat! Just a takeoff from a famous Aussie quote. Here in Ontario, it's not the heat that gets you, but the humidity. The sun umbrella was a great idea, and with it tilted and the wind behind you - wheeeeeee! A technical question? Whose job is it to grease all those hundreds of flood gate gears? Great vlog as usual ladies. You help make my Sunday. here in sunny Collingwood, Ontario, where it's a delightful 23 degrees on the shores of Georgian Bay,

    What an enchanting vlog. Beautiful canal and scenery, delightful company and when Anna got her kiss, my wee heart grew 10 times and I got all warm and fuzzy inside. As for the 'heatwave', having lived just outside Adelaide for several years, no-one raised an eyebrow until it got to 50 degrees and above. Then everyone rolled up an masse to the shopping malls for relief lol.

    Thank you, ladies, another great video and catchup. So lovely to see your little cats taking over the boat in your opening scenes. They are just so cute and such companions. If ever I made it over there and onto the Cut (IF is a very important word) I could only stay a maximum of 6 months because of the Tourist Visas in the UK. I don't have any recent relatives that might give me the criteria for a longer stay, they left the Mother Country back between 1839 and 1862. Sigh. 6 months isn't long enough to see all I want to see, and chase down/up my Family Tree (mostly Wells and surrounding region plus London) and of course, get out on the cut. Looks like for the time beating I have to live vicariously through your clips as well as the many other Boat-Tubers that I regularly watch. Sigh.
    Thanks again for the clip and the Tips on how to handle the heat. Annamarie, could you please let them all know just what it is like for a true Heatwave! I can well recall many years ago when it was 117F in the shade. Last year we had a week where it went over 40C each day. Now that is what I call a Heatwave. 30 is winter temps down here in Adelaide LOL

    I always love seeing y'all! I remember being a teen and dealing with summers in Pennsylvania where 32-35 were the highs. It was difficult, though, because I was doing 10-12 hours of farm field work and our tractors didn't have cabs (the one I most often operated meant I straddled the transmission and hydraulic sump - hot!) I learned a lot about staying hydrated!
    Oh, one I think you may appreciate: I finally properly asked my fiancée to marry me a few days ago. We had decided last fall that we would but due to my own emotions about marriage (having been married once before and all) I could only let myself make it about legal rights like next-of-kin. That changed for me recently and I realized that I far more deeply just want to be married to her!

Great for the solar panels. It doesn't feel too hot as I do have a fan blowing. Our cat loves the fan :) When we buy fans we look at the AC transformer and if their output is 12-14V we cut the AC plug off for another plug and hook it up to our 12V system. Thanks for drawing our attention to the USB/5V fans. I'll look into them.

    I really enjoy cruising with you on your narrowboat. We’ve had triple digit (F) temps here in California; your heat wave with all the greenery around you looks might refreshing.
    An overheated cat can be relieved by petting with two wet hands. It doesn’t soak them as if dipped in water, but the evaporating water does cool them.

    One way to get cats to hydrate more is to give them access to "running" water. This does not mean keeping a water tap open all the time, but rather get them a fountain that recirculates the same water. In the wild, cats equate running water with cleaner water, and either they are not smart enough (or they just don't care) to realize that they are hearing the same water bubbling over and over again. Keep it clean and full of water and I'll bet that they nearly double their water consumption.

    Hi Ladies, it's very pretty Stratford upon Avon. Have not been there, but from your channel it's very picturesque. Love the colour of the parrosel. Sunshine colour. Them fans are good. Me and my husband have one each. Stay safe. Keep well. Susan Rob

    You definitely have more than 2 fans on UA-cam . A heatwave in Australia would be 38c/42c so 30c is just warm for us . Thanks for your great vlogs :-)

    I imagine 30°c is right warm for you folks, here in florida you would add in 75% humidity and it would feel 10 degrees hotter.. Ive often wondered why you dont add a shade (except for the solar of course) a pop up style tent or even a couple of pvc bows from gunwale to gunwale with a tarp stretched over them.. it makes a HUGE difference when Im out camping in my van.. if you use a canvas tarp you can wet it and the evaporation will increase the cooling effect underneath ... I agree the boat going under the bridge would make a great painting
