I had my wife watch this with me... She said, "Was this game made for me?" Great review and good insights. I think I'm in the T camp, but my wife is definitely in the G camp. We'll see what wins out.
I wasn’t sure if my fantasy RPG-playing husband would enjoy this game, but he was quickly won over by the depth of the theme. He also showed a masterful approach to getting rid of the cad card and other unattractive guests. Basically he’d plan a hunting party…an activity from whence undesirables did not return. 😂 I was convinced that he was going to beat me in that game, so I focused on wooing the Very Prestigious Bachelor and ended the game by going all out on the Christmas Party To End All Christmas Parties. 🎉 And I won. With the right people, this can be a very fun game. But even among folks that aren’t into Downtown Abbey or Jane Austin novels, the theme can be surprisingly seductive. It also makes a good gateway game for those who are new to Euros.
Honest review, great job! I think the theme is a big reason people are drawn to this (or repelled). I will admit it's on my wishlist. But I want to try it on BGA a few times first.
If you like the theme of managing a family, I highly recommend "Legacy: The Testament of Duke De Crecy". It is very similar with the card management and worker placement, but is focused on building a family through the generations. I have had a lot of fun stories from people's families.
I really enjoy your reviews. The humor is good, but I love that even with a game you rate “ok” you truly tell the good things with a presentation that doesn’t scream, “I don’t actually think these are good”. That fairness is appreciated but still with honesty in the ratings!
This was one of the reviews that led me to buying the game... plus the expansions and extras 😅 it really is so nice and fancy! The components are lovely and the gameplay is enjoyable, though stressful sometimes lol The Season by Dinky Games is a bit more casual and just as fun! I dont know if you guys would enjoy it/review it, but my hubby prefers The Season over Obsession, though he loves the look of the latter
First of all hope you're safe and doing well! Could you contact us at boardgamehangover@gmail.com ? We would like to send you our copy, but need to figure out how we could do that. No promises, but we'll try our best.
Could you please elaborate on why Tiletum was proposed as an alternative? Most positive Obsession reviews that I've seen were making the accent on how strongly thematic the game is. And that is why they liked it so much. On the other hand, Tiletum's theme (according to most of reviewers) is almost non-existent.
Another honest, fun, nuanced review! You chaps are the best. 😄
My thanks dear sir!

Get it!
I think we all know who's winning that one Danny...

The theme is super exciting with the right group of players! That's the best way to play the game - try to tell a story and have fun doing it!
The thumbnail is top notch! :D
Un autre test de grande qualité et toujours une réalisation au top. Merci les gars

Thanks! Absolutely theme is everything with this one

Great suggestion! Thanks! Will have to check it out

Marvelous indeed. The rather forensic analysis of this tournament on paper and cardstock is greatly appreciated! Cheers darlings!
Glad you liked it! Cheers!
I bought this game for my girlfriend because she loves this theme and it unironically became a top 3 game of all time for me haha
It creates great stories with gaming groups. Really glad you enjoy it!
Nice demonstration of tea drinking with a flourish of ones *little pinky
*little finger
Practice makes perfect... :D
I have never heard a Latvian attempt a British accent before 😂
Gentlemen, you've done a fancy-shmansy job. 🎩🥂
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video - thanks guys
Glad you enjoyed it!
Can't believe you didn't go with Downtime Abbey during the what's bad section...😛
I actually added that to the word Downtime on the board, you can see it. But just the mention did not make it into the final cut ;) /Jānis G.
@@BoardGameHangover Dammit, I commented too quickly!
Great minds ;)
What is this War of the Ring box on the right?
P.S. seems like I’ll have to grab Obsession
Good review. Like the format.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I really enjoy watching these reviews.
That's great to hear!

Literally LOL'd at FancYtastic.
I was most impressed with his “Downtime Abbey” lol
Is it a table hog? Or can I put it on a 90x70 table?
No, it’s not a table hog.
I really like this game as well! Would have bought it if it was available in Ukraine! I like the theme and solo play!

Good company helps to give a game better rating. :D
Can't deny that :D
Where are people even finding this game? I heard the solo mode is going to be on Board Game Arena soon, is that true?
Depending where you live, but it's available in stores in Europe. And if we're not mistaken it's already on BGA
I found my copy by chance a couple weeks ago whilst out shopping for Oros. It's so good I've now got the expansions on the way too!
Fancytastic!
I just found it okay too.
It has a specific target audience for sure
Mate that wasn't a bad English accent 😅
G practices in his spare time... :D
I just wish this game looks better
Have to agree that it has a very specific aesthetic
