Pauline we are using blanks intended for stamping, usually made from copper, brass, pewter, or silver plating on one of those. Some of them are available on our site, though we carry limited styles: www.thebeadco.com/CategoryProductList.jsp?cat=Tools:Metal+Stamping+Supplies
Hello! What kind of metal do you exactly use? I've made tons of beautifull aluminum discs, but now I really can't stamp them well. My dad can, but when I stamp as hard as I possible can, there only is a little mark...Whilst I thought aluminum is the most soft silver coloured metal (apart from real silver). In the other reactions I saw someone say 'brass", but brass is gold coloured, right?
It look so easy when you do it.. I hit so hard (with a very heavy hammer), my wrist really really hurts. When I compare my hitting with yours mine is so much harder. I really don't get it. Why does it go great when you hit, but not when I do? :-(
Every time I try to stamp. They are never even and stamp moves with my hammer strikes. So image is distorted and it looks like I hit it 10 times. Lol how do I fix that
Hi, good video. I have a "925" stamp and I want to use it on the back of some pendants I am making. Is there a surface or something that wont mess up the front of the pendant when I stamp the back? Thanks.
I would probably just put it on top of a bead matt or something similar that will keep the front from scratching. Unless there is a cabochon or something you don't want to damage, you should be ok with that.
We have never used leather stamps, so you can certainly try them. If that doesn't work we (and other bead stores) sell various stamping kits with all of the letters in the $20-30 range.
+Nicole if you have a hard thick surface that would probably work. Concrete may be ally scratch up what you are hammering, or actually crack. Probably any hammer that isn't rusted should work fine.

AR receivers are aluminum which is softer than steel (unless you are using welded flat spot receivers). You are fine, but be aware that the walls of the aluminum is thin. Extruded aluminum is strong, but potentially you could crack or shatter it. Stick apiece of steel between the gaps and rest on a solid surface to be 100% sure you don't damage it. Keep in mind the BATFE doesn't actually require serial numbers unless you sell back... then again they don't follow their own rules anyways so...
Er ... why not simply TAPE the letters TOGETHER ?? ... that way your name will be STRAIGHT ... Also, use a heavier, bolster hammer and your stamping will be sharper.
@Noah Krankowsky it is hard to say without testing it, but some metals are just to hard or too thick to stamp into.

Hi is it possible to stamp on stainless tag 2mm thickness ??
The masking tape tip...Excellent!
Will this mark good on plastics?
Sara no you don't have to have a hammering block if you have something heavy/substantial (that won't be damaged) on which to hammer.
I wonder if this method is viable for stamping the engine number on my bike's new crankcase
i would think so!
What size blank are you using when you did the one letter with the 6MM stamp?

How do you sell stamp"s or where?
What size are those tags?
Please and thank you
They are about 1 inch!
Thanks! This helped a lot in making my medic alert dogtag!
Excellent video. 😊👍
Is there any machine available .. I mean without this painful hammering ?
No, that would only be at a factory level. The hammer is light and the hammering is just tapping, in the case of stamping metal, just a single tap.
Hi! I loved your video. Where can I find the letter stamps? I would like to purchase similar to what you used in your video. Thank you!
I would recommend Rio Grande to purchase from for the letter stamps (we used to carry them but they are crazy heavy and a ton to ship).

Do I have to have the hammering block in order to do this? Or can I substitute it with something else?
Did you ever figure it out? ;)
yes we can use anything as long as it can take the hit
Would this work with steel sheet metal (about 1mm and 1.5mm thickness?)
What’s the material of the pendant?
metal!
I want to get it.
Do i have to buy special stamps of can i just get a set of leather stamps?
We have never used leather stamps, so you can certainly try them. If that doesn't work we (and other bead stores) sell various stamping kits with all of the letters in the $20-30 range.
Where is he avalable sir
You can get it here: www.potomacbeads.com/metal-stamping-supplies
do I need that metal block thing? and that hammer? can I just do it on concrete with a regular hammer?
+Nicole if you have a hard thick surface that would probably work. Concrete may be ally scratch up what you are hammering, or actually crack. Probably any hammer that isn't rusted should work fine.
what metal should i use to stamp words into titanium?
Sorry not sure, we have never tried stamping titanium.
A bit of advice from a Machinist....get a bigger hammer....hit it one time.

Thanks 🫡
You're welcome!
sounds good for skull stamping to identify deceased corps..
just saying..
Or make dog tags which is also used for that
Any one else stamping Fire/Safe markings on home manufactured AR15 receivers? Lol
Steel can be harder to stamp than a lot of the brass supplies that we sell, but we wish you luck with it. Be sure to stamp hard!

Who needs a saftey..... more like fire and fully auto....

You should hold the hammer at the end of the handle. This is the wrong way to hold it.
You only picked up one S, there are two in Jess. :-)
Humm the ( J ) you tap only 2 time ???
Any friend who wants steel stamp comment me
I am going to, I am going to, I am going to bed
Wow, pretty cute girl!
Haw muth 5mm
Er ... why not simply TAPE the letters TOGETHER ?? ... that way your name will be STRAIGHT ... Also, use a heavier, bolster hammer and your stamping will be sharper.
Because you can't hammer all of the letters at the same time. It will dilute the force and the stamps will bounce around.
