      Will do! Silvers should be entering the river by the end of the month and we will start targeting them. 🎣

      Just arrived back home after a REALLY tough week in Soldotna. Just 3000-4000 fish a day on the kenai. One day just 2800. Quit fishing for sockeye and fished for rainbows and grayling. Halibut was good, but that’s not fishing. Caught two pinks which is bit strange as they aren’t suppose to be running.

      Just read 20000 ran yesterday on kenai. That probably kick off for next run

      Oh you know it won’t be long for that now! Pouring rain like crazy today, I bet those numbers start going up just like the water level!

    It amazes me how long it takes people to learn you need to get out of the water! Even the people who live up there don't seem to learn this lesson.
    It took me quite awhile as well. Once I started doing this I hooked a hell of a lot more fish.

    • @alaskasmallcraftadventures
      @alaskasmallcraftadventures  Рік тому +1

      Yep! Keep that hook in the water, that’s where the fish are!🐟

      @stevet8121 Рік тому +1

      It seems like that would be a better angle for hooking fish near the bottom. Thanks for that.

    Just Subscribed. I want to really go back and do put hook in the water. Crazy how there is only 5K fish yesterday though.

    Any recommended bank spots on Kenai or Russian to hit up? Definitely subscribing!

    • @alaskasmallcraftadventures
      @alaskasmallcraftadventures  Рік тому +2

      Fishing should be excellent but expect the tail end on the kenai sockeye run and kenai silver salmon to be showing up. Russian river will be all but over and closing up by then.

      July 30th is too late to catch the peak salmon season on the Kenai. July 15th - August 5th is the prime time of the season

      I will too. Flying up tomorrow. Fish counts show the Kenai picking up a little, but numbers are way down this year. Kasilof looks better from a fish count standpoint.

      You boys will be hitting it right. 20000 ran yesterday. That’s kicking it off. I landed in Pittsburgh after being there a week of 3000 average

      @@Steve-rr3gc How was the fishing at 3k a day? You limit out everyday? How long did you fish for?

    • @Steve-rr3gc
      @Steve-rr3gc Рік тому

      @@chadlang1484 we would fish 5 hours with our guide. Came to camp for quick lunch they I would fish solo(daughters and brother stayed at house) in front of the camp( Big Eddy) till dinner. Eat then go back out till 10. It was really slow for sockeye- had hook ups here and there. But the last few days quit flossing and fished for rainbows, grayling and pinks. Did better with that.

    It's been a few years since I came up for the Sockeye run and I miss it for sure. I thought there were restrictions on boats so their wake didn't cause shore erosion on the Kenai. Maybe just certain areas.

    • @Randy_Savage_ohyeah
      @Randy_Savage_ohyeah Рік тому +2

      There is a hp restriction....believe its 50 but might be 35, cant remember.

    • @alaskasmallcraftadventures
      @alaskasmallcraftadventures  Рік тому +2

      50 hp with a 20 ft boat 5 people will throw a wake at full throttle. Just don’t stand too deep in the water otherwise your waders will get topped off! 🐟😁

    Found out through B&J Sporting goods recently that Ugly Stik stopped manufacturing their Fly Rods. As of this comment, B&J only has 60 of them left in stock, and that’s it. Bummer.

    Numbers thus far for 2nd run are a bit low at least compared to last 4 years.
    True Value in Soldotna has a pretty inexpensive full sink fly (not just sink tip), its also thinner than normal fly line. Think the brand is Grizzly......
