I flew Lufthansa from Seattle to Frankfurt, some of the smoothest landings have been with this airline :) I love listening to Germans speak all day :)

I don't speak German, but I do catch on to the Lufthansa aircrew's subtle little bits of humour, sitting here near Trudeau Airport in Montreal, QC, Canada on my computer. Their humour is very crafty and subtle!

German humour is all about that buddy.... Meet the professionals on their job on the airport, in the cockpit, or even in a library, or the bank manager. Germans are living for there job until dead since military didn´t suite them anymore it is there replacement for it and they take it very sirious, even the humour. Thing is Germans have a very humoristic culture, the only sad thing is they can´t laugh about themselves very good so every satirist if not getting slaughtered will be critisized and penalized unofficially 10 times a lifetime for sure. I can tell you that because I am German and they tell me to be kind of a bit more british, because of not taking things very sirious and mostly joking about myself for benefit.

That was friggin' awesome... accents and all. MAN... I think the hardest part about being a pilot is interpreting everything on the radio!!!

Gotta love the pilot sneezing into his hand at 2:45 and then operating the controls without wiping his hand at all.

I dont know why are many people here complaining about them spending time with chating, there wasnt any emergency, it was pretty basic so what to do, descents and approaches take so long sometimes, should they just sit silently and get bored?:) Its their job, they done this propably hundreds of times, so why not have some fun :)

This Crew makes an ILS Approach. ILS has a localizer and a glidslope. You can make an autoland with ILS in right category. So, first you're intercept the localizer, this is for the direction and after this the glidslope this is for descent.

Usually the tower gives them the route but pilots can request their own and the ground will clear them if there's no conflict. At least that's the case for small airports.

The triangular shaped form you are referring to is / was used on all models smaller than A330/A340 i.e. A310 and A320 series. It is called Wingtip Fence. As opposed to the "Blended Winglets" on Boeing aircraft except the 744 which features "classic" winglets...

Ha! I don't think I'd confuse it either, but if you were flying an old 152 or similar with a dodgy radio fit like the one I did my hour building in, you may well find the 1st part clipped!
Very well, just thought I might stick it up there in case you or anyone else wanted clarification ;)

  • @mrsayang

the KSEA Ground Controller cleared them on a direct way to the gate and the FO called on the second radioset the Ramp Controller.........( that was cut out in the video ) the Ramp Controller gives then a clearance to taxi into the gate. That is a standard procedure in USA. In all other coutries normally a Ground or an Apron Cotroller gives you a clearance where to taxi to the gate after landing! I fly B-747 for Lh, so I wanted to clear that for you! You may NEVER taxi without a clearance!!!!

The difference is to avoid confusion, 'taxi and hold' could easily be confused with the instruction just to 'hold', whereas 'line-up and wait' leaves you in no doubt you are entering the active runway without clearance for take-off. I believe it stems from our military, though that may be a myth fed to me during training!
