- Anita O'Day sings her classic medley of Lennon-McCartney's "Yesterday" and Jerone Kern-Otto Harbach's "Yesterdays" in the 1970 performance from Berlin. Georges Arvanitas on piano, Jacky Sampson on bass and Charles Saudrais on drums.
Incredible. ❤
Anita was a vocal genius.
For 1970, the film/sound quality and artistic editing are pretty astounding. A lovely performance. Thanks.
One of the all time greats
Mr Eichler, what about Ms Anne Baxter 1973 This is your life? Did you find it?
I'm still looking.
Near the end of a fine career for Miss O day! I particularly enjoy her work with the Krupa outfit on vinyl of course! Speaking of drummers, who was laying down the skins on this video? Excellent! The entire backing band sounds great! Thanks for this one Alan! Cheers… Keith
Hardly near the end of her career. She’s 51 here and would go on to record at least another 15 albums. She died at 87 in 2006. “O'Day at the Berlin Jazz Festival in November 1970 with Georges Arvanitas (p), Jacky Samson (b) and Charles Saudrais (d).” from news.allaboutjazz.com/anita-oday-berlin-1970?width=1024 O’Day had just re-emerged on the scene after finally kicking her heroin addiction.
I just added the musicians to my description. The drummer is Charles Saudrais. She continued performing for than 20 years.
Oh I stand corrected! Thanks for pointing this out to me gentlemen!
