She's so well articulated, not aiming at entertaining; she shared her life experience as a real human being.

Anita was one of the absolute best! A survivor and a tough broad. The best scat singer.

I love it when she thinks they’ve gone to commercial break and lets her guard down. (see 24:00) She’s so “real;” not like a swell-headed celebrity but a regular, normal person with a huge talent. I wish I had been put in her path so that we could have been friends.

Yes, Anita lived her life as a one off a truly tough but honest lady and a Jazz stylist par excellence. Please read her memoir “High Times Hard Times” where she relates in hip style the life that produced this very special artist. True Jazz people are a unique breed always on the high wire and we must salute and thank them for risking so much without a safety net.

The wonderful wonderful all time Late Great Anita O day. As usual she wowed everyone when she sang. Now here she sings Johnny One Note. I read in Downbeat Magazine many many years ago. that Anita did not really enjoy singing with the Billy May Big Band. Anita stated that the Billy May Band played so LOUD that they over dubbed her. Seriously tho Billy May did have a top notch big band. but but but I think she sounded better with the Four Sounds. even with Gene Krupa the Krupa used a dynamic setting and let her be heard more on songs like Thats What You Think and Massachusetts. God Bless Anita O day for all of her accomplishments. Much respected and admired in Jazz History.

I love how Anita is known for her suits instead of the glamour gowns but she always looks chic. Without being vain she was an effortlessly beautiful woman. Anita never let herself go not even during her addicted years. I think she enjoyed looking good, took pleasure in it and gave us much listening and visual pleasure in the process. It's part of her mystery.

This is the one time I've heard Anita say something nice about Ella Fitzgerald. She was often critical of Ella. It's a shame Anita didn't have someone like Norman Granz to protect and shape her career .
I miss the Joe Franklin show. It was a NYC institution.

Whitman is literally sitting right next to one of the top jazz vocalists of the 20th century, and it’s like he has no idea who Anita was!
