I still remember the emotional rollercoaster it was when Idra beat MC 2-0 before losing 4 straight games to him. Idra vs the Koreans at MLG was one of the greatest narratives in esports history.
Script writers really upped their game
Dude your channel is everything I need in my life.
Thanks
This is the best channel I never knew I needed. I was obsessed with SC2 in the earlier years and completely lost track of it... nice to see all these familiar names pop up again from over 10 years ago!
I always enjoyed Idra's insults. That kind of stuff would never be allowed today.
"David Kim should be ra*** with a tire iron"
An actual quote he typed to his opponent, while streaming.
I think he got like a 24 hour ban or something like that.
@@TheRubsihe should have been ra*** with a tire iron"
you clearly never watched avilo
@@youtuberyoutuber2495 avilo is a troglodite, so it's not really the same.
@@youtuberyoutuber2495 I found his streams entertaining, there is a reason he's banned from Twitch and other things.
This channel is the niche we all needed
Thanks!
righttttttt lol
I'm in a nostalgia train about sc2 these last few weeks and your videos come right on point. Great content there, keep up the good work and wish you to blow up man!
Same I feel there’s a strong like “competitive casual” community with this game
Thanks!
Idra v Huk were my two favorites coming together to create the most entertaining fantasy matches
Mc was trully boss toss in entire sc2 history
Just the phrase "boss toss" is nostalgic!!
Ahhh Boss-Toss MC, the most colorful Korean player in SC2's history
The Xel'Naga Caverns... wow I never thought I'd miss these maps considering they're essentially just battle grounds, however, these videos spark a hint of nostalgia I never thought I'd experience.
I watched that game vs HuK live, and I was just as confused as the casters were for a moment. I miss that era of SC2.
I'm new to starcraft 2 and i'm starting to get to know the comunity of the game and it's actually hilarious 🤣 in a good way
I remember meeting him and incontrol. Incontrol was amazing and a great guy. I'd chat with him everytime I saw him. Idra was exactly what you thought a short angry guy. Great player still
I remember Idra back in broodwar days in op gg-manner he would come have fun and talk shit all day I wish I was there to watch him develop as a sc 2 player .. anyways if he ever sees this it’s BamTsunami lol
Thanks for this video I used to love watching idra
Thanks! I still miss him too, one of the best players
Idra was my favorite pro player its refreshing to see someone give no fucks and openly express their hatred of their opponents because its relatable
American with no class.
tbf that protoss deathball in Wings of Liberty was so annoyingly difficult to deal with, and it felt like the zerg player had to play so much better just to beat it. Void Ray/Collosi was straight up broken in zvp. Not to mention forcefields were so hard to deal with as well. zvp is still a problem today, though not as bad as it used to be. Also, until the final stages of WoL zerg struggled a lot, especially in zvp. I don't blame any other zerg players for getting fed up with the state of the game at the time. I was fed up with it lol.
Also, I remember that argument idra had with day9 on State of the Game. You can hate idra but the fact is that nothing he said there was wrong. Zerg was the only race that couldn't reliably scout early (this was before overlords got their speed upgrade in tier 1), so it was just a guessing game with zerg against protoss or especially terran. On top of that terran in particular had so many option early on, and if you didn't perfectly guess they were coming and counter them, you would be way behind. Think about it; marine/marauder pushes with medivacs, reapers, bunker rushes, banshees, walling off with your expand CC in your main that could safely fly to an expo, etc. Zerg on the other hand had so much more trouble being aggressive because the only way to get through terran wall ins was to use mass banes. As well, your only anti air in the early game was queens (who weren't good at killing things and needed creep to move anywhere at a reasonable speed). There's a reason zergs won by far the least major tournaments for the first 3/4s of WoL. It wasn't until the final stages of the expansion that the balance patches and meta shifts changed that, and zerg became dominant. idra and ret were like the only foreigner zerg players that you ever heard about for a long time (that were doing well in tournaments).
I posted it on the other video, but I'll say it again here, too. CombatEX was the most insane BM player from all time.
I love your starcraft history videos
Thank you!
This one gave me some good laughs and brought back a lot of memories. Thanks for the continued uploads!
we need a combatEx video tbh....and a video on incontrol too
incontrol tribute i was legit sad when he passed
11:01 MC is just a treasure
Goed comtent..subbed
Thanks!
Idra was by far my favorite player. I love a good villain.
To be honest i became like Idra. I only love it when i Win and i dont enjoy the Game anymore. Difference here is that i am rly bad at the Game xD.
Oh, any plans to do an ep on the great legend of SC2, Bitbybit who would cheese like hell?
Ah yes, the proxy rax king, perhaps I'll do him a bit later! :D
ZvP was so hard back then
I remember the game that happened at 6:15 is what made me realize that the Sentry was completely broken back in WoL. Whoever at Blizzard thought that creating an uncounterable, spammable, terrain-building unit as a tier 1.5 tech was absolutely insane. Even though I'm very glad the Ravager was created to be able to partially fix this, I still think at some level it's a fundamentally flawed unit design.
Great video as always man!
the whole problem was that gateway units back then were garbage to make up for forcefield and warpgate being completely and utterly broken. Its kinda flawed design at its core. I think thats partially why protoss has always been a gimmicky cheesy poorly designed race.
Yeah it was incredibly hard to deal with sentries until you had Brood-Lords or infestors. I remember people trying drop-overlords with banelings, but the main issue was immortal-all-in period which was popularized by PartinG. I was in a diamond league in 2012 as Zerg and I swear every ZvP was this 9 minute mark all-in with 8 sentires and 2-3 immortals, all the same every match :D
@@mikehunt3426 I don't remember Gateway units being worse than they are now (I'll totally take your word for it though, this was 10 years ago haha) but to your point about Warpgate tech being broken, yeah, totally.
You can actually see something in the game I linked too that isn't in the game anymore - 4 second warp in times from a proxy Pylon. Not having to build a Robo and a Warp Prism and still getting instantly-spawning units anywhere on the map for a 100 mineral investment pretty much breaks all principles of the RTS genre of units spawning at your base, defenders advantage of being closer to your own base, etc. Again, just another absolutely insane design choice from Blizzard which makes me think they fundamentally misunderstood what made SC1 and the RTS genre as a whole so interesting.
@@TylerJBrown192 Having Adepts and Oracles added made a big difference; both units can both harrass to keep an enemy army at home to buy time, do economic damage, or provide good support to early-mid game gateway units.
@@TylerJBrown192 Not really, rts principles are 1) build base 2) collect resources 3) build some more base and units 4) use units to fight opponent 5) repeat 2,3,4 until game ends. "Units spawning at your base, defenders advantage of being closer to your own base, etc" is more of a "meta" stuff and goal for the devs making a game is to shake meta stuff for their game to be distinct, interesting and refreshing.
What u mean no one liked Idra? He was one of the most beloved characters in the community!
Fanbase adored him and so did I, but he also had a beef with a great number of professional players, and that's what the video is about
Please do a video on the best american sc players of all time
Back when SC2 had lots of personalities
And he even play the most OP race :)
they are so many things l do not know.l play sc2 since 2017 or 2018.but l saw in tv since 2014 when i in middle school.l really care about players in 2019.seems innovation win against serral.by the way, your subscribes numbers increase a lot.
I'll soon do some videos on modern players
I remember essentially nothing of him playing, maybe went back as I heard about his loss this way or that way. Remember just getting up to grab the next pints of beer or head to the loo, etc. I'll like the vid, but was never really interested in the guy or his play most of the time.
I felt like there were many other more genuine players giving what I would consider to be 'more proper' encouragement to the player-base at the time.
Watching Korean streamers TRY really hard to communicate with their English audience was great & felt much more real (a favourite was HwangSin.
Yeah he was mostly famous for his bm and epic losses
Wasn’t there a guy Morrow as well?
My god the game was so unbalanced back then. My favorite thing to do was the archon toilet
I fucking loved Idra, don't say nobody liked him.
I always thought Idra just played a heel for the entertainment purposes, to bring in the audience.
Yeah he stated that in 2013, but these were his true emotions
Nah dude he openly admitted to give no shits about anyone but the money. He was a true asshat, glad he's gone.
To say no one liked idra is totally wrong. We loved to hate him and he brought a lot of attention to the game. Idra is, was, & will always be a sc2 legend.
I feel like things such as zerg's inability to scout was less so to do with the state of the game back then, and more so about how relatively undeveloped the metagame was. If you look back at those early tournaments it's pretty clear that no one had a good understanding of the game.
"After years of patching"
What year were you born? There was like 1 or 2 balance patches ever in BW.
I liked him
Basset меня преследует. Теперь и на английском.
Да
HuK was the best
The first rivalry player ColCruncher was a legitimate cheater.
Why?
@@EsportsStoryteller his game on taldarim altar. Looking back no scout and multiple cannons was obvious stream cheat
@@ricardovalle960 cruncher never cheated.
now play as Protoss with a fleshy skin against a Zerg enemy with a flashy robot skin. play on the latest patch. youll find Idra is just an asshole about balance. showing hes a bad looser its funny, but yeah it entertains the fans its his legacy.
I think if Idra actually stayed for LotV he would enjoy the game a lot more. Zerg feels so much better since 2018, much easier to play proper macro and not die from all-ins or cheeses.
Who holds up a sign to a subreddit? Yikes
why nobody liked idra? what are y talkin about
Cute video.
Thanks
u was a idras hater?
I'm not having fun with the game, I just like winning.
What a miserable person, both in his emotional state and as a personality.
Nobody? I think he had a lot of fans lol
Idra speaks like he is better than you. When someone do that i just ban him or her C=
IdrA carried SC2. The game was so dog shit and broken when that idiot David Kim was trying to balance it. Greg straight up said- "this is dumb, this is wrong" and they let the game turn into Heart of the Swarm. The biggest flop I've ever seen.
I agree with idra on one thing, starcraft 2 is not a good game...
It used to be worse than now
I love IdrA
Idra was too based for this nerd game
lol
