    Thank you so much for this tutorial! Pattern was easy and directions clear. I made two yesterday for gifts. I used leftover quilt projects fabrics and made my own carrying handles with fabric and iron on fusible web- they turned out great! I am trying to think of others I could make one for...."sew" much fun to make and give!

    Thank you Melanie. Love your presentation--easy to follow. I have made tons of things that require a lining and I can never remember how to layer the lining part into the outside, in order for it to come out, so not only have you shown me how to do this carrier, but how to fit linings to hats, purses, bags etc. You are a doll!! Thanks again!!

    Absolutely Fab Melanie! What a cute & simple idea. But having a gazillion things going with the holidays coming so fast that I sadly don't have time to make even one of these; but I'm already seeing this done in recycled denim - Pockets, seams, and a little frayed like a denim quilt. It will be a great project to make to chase away the post Holiday blahs. I'd also like to add that for us quilters you made this very 'fat quarter & strip' friendly! Thanks A Bunch.

    I love your video. I went and bought two place-mats, and didn't pay attention to size. I got my top embroidered, and went to sew them together and one was bigger than the other on one side. So I went back and bought three more. I tried these against each other, still off a smidgen, but I was able to get one of them to work. So now I have a spare pair, and took one back.

    Melanie thanks so much for sharing. I have been wanting to make one of these for a while, but was trying to find a good and easy tutorial to follow. I am working on some right now for Christmas gifts. I'm trying to be as frugal as I can so I am repurposing panels of old blue jeans for the outer material and using whatever material I have on hand for the lining. I am also going to put a 9x13 glass pan with their last name etched into the pan as part of the gift. You are truly talented. Thanks again.

    • @lindareinherz4427
      @lindareinherz4427 7 років тому +1

      I know you posted a year ago but I love the idea of a etched baking dish! Is there a UA-cam lesson for that?

    • @SuperTamigirl
      @SuperTamigirl 7 років тому

      There might be. I used my Cricut and cut out the name out of vinyl and used the negative of the vinyl as a stencil. I placed it on the underside of the glass dish and etched it with an acid etching cream I got at Hobby Lobby, with a 40% off coupon, following the etching instructions on the packaging. They turned out beautiful! I etched my design on the bottom of the glass dish. I wasn't sure how etching the inside of the pan would effect how it baked. I didn't want to take that chance. It might not effect if at all. With that being said if you etch the name on the bottom of the dish make sure that you reverse the design so it will appear in the right direction when you look through the dish with it upright. Hope this helps. :)

    • @SuperTamigirl
      @SuperTamigirl 7 років тому +1

      There is... I just searched "etching glass baking dish" and a lot of them popped up. I used the one where the lady was etching JOY on the side of the dish. I just took that idea and etched the bottom. :)

    • @SuperTamigirl
      @SuperTamigirl 7 років тому

      The casserole carriers went beautifully with them too. I made mine out of upcycled jeans. I was a lovely Christmas gift to my family. :)

    I love this. I am a (very) beginner at sewing. I will have to try this one. I just hope my cheapo machine can do it. Also, I do a lot of "recycle" material. Any suggestions on what I can "reuse" as batting and straps?

    • @MelanieHam
      @MelanieHam  9 років тому

      +Shane, you could use flannel or perhaps a thin cotton blanket for batting but you would still need the Insul-Bright if you want the thermal aspect to hold heat. For straps you can reference my recent video Crayon Tote that shows how to make straps out of cotton or perhaps reuse a cotton or other thin fabric belt or straps. It's important to watch the thickness as your machine may have some difficulty going through several thicknesses. Good luck! It's a fun project and great for the holidays or gifts.

    It would be helpful if you could show the APPROXIMATE cost of each of your materials, and the total cost of your project, as you made your demonstration project. Others sewists can always cut expenses by getting re-purposed fabrics and donated notions; but made with all new materials, please estimate the cost of the components that you used, and the average/estimated total of the completed item. Thank you!
