I love this project so much. I don’t mind the long tutorials at all, in fact it prefer them. The more detail the better as Jen is a great teacher and I learn soooo much each and every time!
I just love this lunch box . I loved the tutorial, I just finished one for me. I work long hours, this size is perfect for packing all my food for the day. I used waterproof canvas on the inside for easy cleanup. Thank you again.
To keep my zipper closed at the one end I use a piece of paper tape. I do alot of machine embroidery and learned that trick there. Love how Shabby always adds their special touch, and they didn't disappoint with the covered zipper, Thank you Shabby!!
Sweet Beginnings is my favorite! I absolutely adore this lunch box and the colors are perfect! I would make mine with a red zipper. This video is my favorite! The time was not long to me at all… 👍
This tutorial was excellent and is always a deciding factor when I purchase fabric and supplies. Shabby Fabrics make it easy for me to shop and complete my projects with these detailed tutorials. Thanks! Also, I was thinking instead of covering my zipper this would be a great place to display some of my gorgeous Renaissance Ribbons!! Just sew them right along the zipper length.
@Kristina Thanks sew much for your feedback! We enjoy creating helpful videos for our customers!! We'd love to see photos of your finished project with your beautiful Renaissance Ribbons!! -Michelle
I wish I could go to some work to bring a lunch bag like that! LOL. You make the projects look so easy. The green stripe you used for the zipper on one side, when you stuck it to that tape, and then sewing it, it was closer to the edge of the zipper and that's why it seamed a bit wider. Your videos are crystal clear. Thank you so much!
I really appreciate you doing this project. I was working on it on my own, but felt unsure of myself at points. My only frustration is that the manufacturing of a craft is more expensive these days than to buy a cheap (in every way) version made in China, and that just breaks my heart. For most of human history it was the other way around. Rant finished. Instead of the covered zipper, I stitched a decorative stitch along the casing, and that ended up looking just as nice as the complicated cover for the zipper casing. Thank you again for another wonderful tutorial.
I just recieved my kit and was wanting to put a waterproof fabric on the inside. Went to my quilt shops club day today and they were doing a demo on HeatnBond Liquid Vinyl!!! Bought a jar and am going to waterproof my own fabric for it. Now to make up my mind on the fabric.
I have been looking for a lunch box for my grand daughter, I’m excited to find this!! She loves unicorns too!!😊. I think this is going to be fun to make. First I’m going to make sure I can find the containers for the inside. Thank you 😊

This looks like fun and easy. Someone I'm thinking of would like the fabric with the birds and flowers (Secret Stash - Veridian Foliage) I'm excited to try this out. I think I should make her this lunch bag and everyone in the neighborhood aprons because so many people do so many projects around us here and would be so happy to get one. Last year I did hanky's. They loved them. I just love giving :D My mom taught me to sew. It's fun and calming. Especially if you're feel sad or bad, you can always make someone something to cheer you up :D
Great descriptive video! I’m a new sewer and absolutely loved the detail. I shortened my straps as another option that was suggested but where would be a good spot, roughly, to place my straps - it wasn’t mentioned referencing the Sweet Beginnings bag.
We're glad you enjoyed this tutorial! Jen placed her straps approximately 4.5" down and approximately 2.5" in prior to sewing the seams together. Hope that helps!! -Michelle
Fun looking lunch bag. I do think that it might be a bit easier and even more polished if the lining was assembled separate from the outer shell and then brought together. But so cute either way!
I have foam insulation, I'd like to use also. It is from insulated shipping packages for insulin. Do you have any measurement suggestions so I can slip those pads in the bottom & sides? I love your teaching & videos. Thank you for your time.
You may be able to use the plastic form for the bottom of the lunchbox as a template for the foam. Depending on how thick your foam is, you may need to increase your fabric measurements. Hope that makes sense! 💖 -Michelle
@@ShabbyFabrics yes, it makes sense, thank you. If my insulated pads are 3/4" thick, is that the only additional fabric I'll need to add to my original pattern?

Haha! Just about the same thing happened to me. I sewed on a singer treadle with a shuttle bobbin that I bought when I was in high school. When my first 2 boys were 2 1/2 and 1 years old and pregnant with my daughter , I made them the cutest clown costumes for halloween on that old sad machine. My mother in law was so impressed she and my husband bought me a computerized Elna witch was one of the first models to have machine embroidery. It was a most surprising Christmas gift. They handed me a little wrapped box and it was a beautiful set of maderia thread. That was enough for me. Then they pointed out a large box under the Christmas tree that they said went with it and of course it was the machine. What a surprise for sure! My own mother was a beautiful seamstress and sewed on a junky Montgomery wards machine that my dad bought her because he liked the cabinet. Can you imagine? Anyhow 2 weeks went by and it was still in the box. My mom called me on a Saturday and asked if I had opened it and when I said no she said “I’m coming over now!” It was so funny. We both opened it together and we were both VERY scared of it lol but we were also excited. Really, it was like going from a candle to the space shuttle! Good memories with my mom though as she passed several years ago. Anyhow I believe in you too! You can do it and it will be so fun. As an update to that I received a Bernina 200 in 2004 and that’s what I’ve been sewing in since. I think I will be doing this lunchbox project soon look like fun. I love all the projects from shabby fabrics and hen is a great teacher!! Have fun!
