Her food is her MEDICINE & she wouldnt leave home without THAT so....of COURSE she takes her own food with her!
WOW! Just WOW! That resonated with me so much! Love love love this!
You are a champion! Good for you! I made too much hummus. So I heated the hummus with extra lemon and pasta water to thin. I added red and yellow peppers and tomatoes. Tossed in pasta... so creamy and delicious! Peace and Plants!!!!
Interesting. I haven't eaten hummus yet at least not for decades. It's very useful!
Excellent job to everyone on this journey! Sharing your stories is so helpful to those listening. Thank you!
"Its part of who I am now, part of my identity." I agree, Brenda. I was in a recovery place after breaking an ankle, and I decided to fill out the form about eating by saying I eat only this. They complied. I tried to make it easy for them, but it was great. I cook for myself now, and it's fun to follow a recipe, sometimes, but one of my favorite meals is just cooked brown rice, some garbanzo beans, with some of the cooking water (aquafaba) and a few handfuls of frozen, chopped, kale. Don't even add any spices. Yum.
My cholesterol hit 210 mg/dl (high) after trying a fad 'no sugar' diet and was angry but the miracle happened as I found whole food-plant based. It became ideal very quickly as did weight, blood pressure and resting heart rate, all previously high. 5 years later, now, and all are good except blood pressure is maybe 125/85.
I grew up in southern WV, and my sister and her family still live in Bluewell/Bluefield. I’ll have to share this video with her! Thanks so much!
When Google can be helpful! I'm so happy for Brenda. Learning to cook as well as going plant-based is really something.
Thanks for the tips for travel. I'm planning a big car trip in the fall, and this was helpful for my travel prep.
Excellent interview.
Excellent interview
Such a lovely lady. We all have experienced the same struggles beginning a plant based diet after being raised on the SAD fare for decades.
Another excellent interview and inspirational story from Brenda. The WFPB diet is the best diet for the animals, the planet and for humanity.
Foods from other cultures are always a favorite of mine: Ethiopian, Ghanaian, Indian, Thai, Chinese, Japanese...🥡🍝
Awesome!!!
True it’s all about life styles and attitudes and let’s not forget God’s inspirations
AMEN
Great interview. What an amazing lady and Chuck you are absolutely awesome. God bless you and the work you do.
Tastes do change, and I have an example. I bought beans with salt in a can, from Walmart: black beans. Not bad, too much. So I tried 'no salt'. Nasty!!!! But over time, and after using less and less salt on those beans, then flash forward to today. I have no problem at all eating the canned beans without salt. The beans taste *good*. And we all know beans are very satiating.
I love this! Thank you.
Great work. Chuck knows how to draw people out.
This is the best, guilt free , high vibration, happy lifestyle. I don’t call this lifestyle a diet. I’m a proud vegan ( whole food plant base)😊
Jamie Oliver did a cook and lose weight program for the schools in WV not long ago. The line of thinking was he was at a funeral home and there was a casket that was the size of a piano. Well done, go and spread the word.
Where is WV ?
@@leethomson5733 West Virginia
@@almaburns6562 Take me home take me home to the place I belong , I know you know the rest of the song ,
Lovely place ain't it 🤣
@@leethomson5733 If you know all that, you should know where WV is.
Is there a food for life programe in South Africa? I would love to do the course!!
This is a great video. Food addiction is real, and it is a very tough habit to kick. Radical lifestyle change, additionally, is very hard to undertake when you are in a stable place, even if you know you have to make the change. Hitting rock bottom, hitting the wall, or simply reaching a crossroads always spurs great change. There will be twists, turns, setbacks and reversals along the way, but you must keep your eyes on the prize, always.
Keep your eyes focused on the way forward, and remember: progress (however small), not perfection.
Yes, the super rich foods are made that way for maximum profit at the expense of the long term health of the 'customer'. I feel that's a big reason the strategy to eliminate, instead of moderate, has more success.
My 'rock bottom' was when my cholesterol hit 210 mg/dl (high) after trying a fad 'no sugar' diet and was angry but the miracle happened as I found whole food-plant based. It became ideal very quickly as did weight, blood pressure and resting heart rate, all previously high. 5 years later, now, and all are good except blood pressure is maybe 125/85.
The best way I feel I can describe the result is freedom. Freedom from addition to the super rich foods, freedom from the specter of lifelong treatment for the symptoms of my bad habits, and freedom from the heavy weight on my knees, and from the heavy breathing after just walking a short distance.
I don't breath heavy now even after long distances of walking.
I just heard this presentation and while listening I was wondering how to start sharing the wonderful information with more people through teaching or coaching. Then I heard the opportunity to apply, but it is after June 1 and I was not finding the description with the link. Even as a child healthy eating and lifestyle, nutrition, exercise, etc. have been part of my being and focus. I have maintained the same weight for over 30 years and giving birth to six children. I would love to become a force for good in the work of health.
Assisted living, hospitals and schools have got to improve what they feed people, I’d love to join that movement to change this.
I went whole foods plant based one year ago. One year later I had blood tests redone. Cholesterol highest it's ever been! Weight up 5 pounds or so...I'm 51 and did read that Cholesterol goes up during menopause, but I certainly feel frustrated
I had anal cancer and 2 weeks after i went vegan the doctor told me i didnt have it anymore
Praise God! Good for you!
Stop lying kid!
awesome!!!!
im interested in your FOOD FOR LIFE class.
Love making my own food. Baked potatoes and any vegetables or salsa
Salsa is nice and I baked potato slices when I had access to an oven. Now I microwave cook and make my own food which is whole wheat pasta and black beans from a can, with cayenne pepper. I eat kale I microwaved for 1 minute, also. Raw kale is gag but cooked kale, especially the right brand, is tasty even without anything on it.
was information on her High Cholesterol and High Blood Pressure shared anytime in the video?
Just a heads up…the class at the library in Bluefield is actually June 25, not July. 😀
Thanks for the correction. Realized my mistake as soon as I listened to the interview.
Fairly new to plant based communities what’s the food for life? Is that a program where we can actually get certified?
I struggle with hardly ever feeling full and eating sooo much fiber has finally broken my nonstop eating cycle. I'm still surprised how easy plant based has been. I went into it assuming I wouldn't like anything and I think that helped in a way lol. If I did actually enjoy something I would add it to my rotation and if I hated it I would really try to break down why. I've found I do have a few foods I hate-hate (I'm looking at you tempeh!) but for the most part I just need to get used to an ingredient (nutritional yeast).
My thing lately is thyme + lentil combo recipes. For some reason those are really hitting the spot and I love it :D
You are doing awesome Brenda ! Thanks for the further encouragement to go vegan

Veggie sushi with sweet potato in it…♥️
I have been plant base food but I have been feeling in balance while walking. Sometimes it feels like I will fall. Do you think it has to do with not eating animal protein.
No I don’t think it’s a lack of animal protein. You can get enough protein from a plant based diet.
Have you any other symptoms, like frequency of urination? A urinary tract infection can cause a lack of balance and unsteadiness on your feet..
No, I don’t have other symptoms just the imbalance. I will try the milk to see if it will help. Thanks for the suggestion.
@Zed Love Hi Zed Love, i know u are only trying to help Njideka Ezeofor, but ...so am i, which is why i must add my response to your suggestion. Im Australian and we dont have "1% milk" here but im assuming its dairy? If it is, dont drink it Njideka Ezeofor. Dairy will only worsen any conditions u have. SOY MILK however contains omega 3's & 6's but is low in saturated fat! Soy milk lowers cholesterol, prevents prostrate cancer, assists menopause, is a great source of calcium, protein, FIBRE & antioxidants PLUS its full of anti-inflammatory & heart protective properties! (& its DELICIOUS!)
hello Njideka Ezeofor, im just wondering...were u on any medications when u transferred over to a plant based diet? Because many people find their blood pressure & cholesterol levels etc return to normal & reset themselves when they stick to eating a low-fat whole-food vegan diet. Consequently, continuing to take meds for such conditions CAN result in dizziness & loss of balance. U need to see your doctor & get your levels checked & any meds re-assessed.
PS...i also had a problem with losing my balance a few years ago...it was like the ground moved when i moved & the floor came up to meet me when i walked! Saw my doctor after my first fall, & it turned out i had a MIDDLE EAR INFECTION, which was successfully treated with antibiotic ear drops. All good then. i wish you wellness.
I have been on a whole food plant based diet for five years and have not lost any weight and my cholesterol is still going up! What is going on?
If you find out, I’d like to know. My husband has been plant based almost 3 years and his weight is up a bit while mine went down and stabilized.
Research the blood type diet (Dr. D'Adamo); you could be consuming 'healthy', plant-based foods which are not in sync with your blood type. I'm Blood Type O, so avocado, cucumber, oranges, oats/rye (gluten), and peanuts are a no-no for me. I also eat Basmati rice, because it has a lower GI.
You can contact Pcrm and they have doctors that can help you because some people have treatment resistant high cholesterol. They will start off being sure you are strict on the diet of whole food-plant based and track the foods with a calorie tracker.
🙏
You might have to eliminate the concentrated sources of calories found in high fat plant products. Nuts and seeds(and their butters), avocados, olives - even tofu can be too concentrated for someone with weight to lose. If you are consuming fruit drinks or smoothies with lots of fruit and protein powders, you could be adding calories there. Of course cooking with oils could be adding tons of calories that don't even have the decency of registering as food.
You say you are whole food plant based but if you are including processed plant meats and cheeses, those are pretty calorie dense too.
Unless you are very active, even these plant foods can thwart your weight loss goals.
Oh and the blood type diet someone mentions in these comments is bunk.
@@InTheSkyGirl I don’t do any of those things I’m sos free, only whole food,no nuts, and no processed plant meats. No smoothies protein powders or fruit drinks. I only drink water and herbal tea. Tofu very seldom like once a month
very superficial but I swear to God, eating steamed kale every day will make your face glow 🤭🤭🤭
Do you add anything to your kale?
It will! I like to freeze mine and add it to smoothies - especially this time of year as the weather gets warmer. Yeah get your glow on!
@@almaburns6562 there is a recipe from the Forks over Knives cookbook that tosses steamed kale with liquid aminos, powdered onion, nutritional yeast and liquid smoke. Man is it good. So tasty and so easy. Excellent as a side dish or just eaten right out of the pot. Solo. Meal accomplished. 😁
@@InTheSkyGirl This sounds yummy!
I was diagnosed with GP. I am overweight. In 2003 I had a laparoscopic Nissen and ever since I cannot drink carbonated drinks and I can only drink with a straw. When I was a kid I have always had a very hard time being able to eat many different types of foods like many fruits and vegetables. My entire life if I was to eat a salad I would get sick the minute I put it in my mouth let alone if I was to get any of it down? For example, if I have a burger it could only have the bun meat and cheese and no spread of any kind. No mayo etc. If I was to have a tuna fish sandwich it could only be made with butter plane. I have been trying to lose weight but have been having a hard time doing so? I was just put on a medication called Metformin because I was told I was producing too much insulin and that was causing me to gain weight? I hate the food pyramid and even the my plate because they don't address issues like GP and other dietary issues? Because I am legally blind and use a power chair with limited mobility it's hard to read labels and count calories to be healthy and know what will help me lose weight and live healthier? I wish someone could make a video about this issue?
I switched to whole foods plant based and I'm never satisfied, I eat a lot and gaining weight. My BP is going high and always tired. My sleep is never restful
Resarch the blood type diet. You can maintain the vegan diet, but only eat those whole foods that are in sync with your blood type.
How is your blood sugar, have you had an A1C test lately?
What does a typical day of eating look like for you? You can really eat a lot of food this way, but the caloric density of the foods you choose is key. If you have a moment, look up Chef AJ. She has videos where she explains caloric density and how understanding that can help you lose weight and keep it off without counting calories or exercising yourself to death.
The blood type diet is bunk btw.
@@TheRealDeal130 my A1C as at yesterday was 4.2
@@InTheSkyGirl I take smoothie (spinach, apple, jack fruit, cinnamon, chia seeds) in the morning and black rice with vegetables n beans as my second meal. I do intermittent fasting 18/6

Thank you so far It has been kept off. I have been building muscle. I dropped my body fat to 13.6 I eat everything lean
