I have been on a plant based diet for two months now. I feel so good. I have more energy. I am now exercising everyday walking and swimming. My mood is 💯better. My blood pressure is near perfect. I am a 68 old woman. This is now a way of life for me.
I have been transitioning to a plant based diet for about ten weeks and I'm off metformin for the first time since I was sixteen years old! I can't believe how fast its worked! Course my doctor recommended greek yogurt and cheese sticks for my blood sugar lows! Thank you for getting all this information out there!

My husband was taken off metformin today. His number great. Thank you for all the information! Update, my numbers have improved, so much that I don't have to get on Metformin. My doctor was elated!! And so was I!

I had weekly headaches, even 2-3 times a week. I became vegan for almost 2 months and I had absolutely nothing. It was shocking to me. Now I find out why. It is the best result after switching to a vegan diet for me. I hated headaches especially at work
Glad to see this post about headaches. Will have to let my sister-in-law know. She has headaches all the time - perhaps diet can help. ua-cam.com/video/n2w0Wk2Nd7w/v-deo.html

Japanese rice servings are very small. Yes they eat it for every meal but women only eat 3/4 cup serving. Then other small dishes are served like veggie dishes, miso soup, pickles, tamagoyaki omelette, etc. Diners eat a few bites of each communal dish. They also walk more, bike more, clean more, etc. Small portions, regular meals, loads of exercise built into every day. You can make simple dressings in a blender no oil use 1/2 cup of your favorite beans water vinegar garlic or ginger herbs and a little maple syrup / experiment
Good advice. Another way to make dressing is to blend watery vegetables like tomatoes or zucchini as the base. I like tomato, red bell pepper, spring onion, garlic, ginger, cilantro, lemon juice, dates and celery.

@@eugeniebreida1583 with an increasingly low level of quality protein (per this diet) as we age, we are putting ourselves at risk of muscle mass loss, specifically skeletal muscle loss, which puts us on an accelerated path to sarcopenia. Sarcopenia is debilitating. Skeletal muscle is what supports and maintains our body's structur. Muscle is a metabolic organ...that 8s a biological fact. So many people are completely unaware that failing to increase their quality protein (*complete protein) intake as they age.. is why the aged are now relying on motorized scooters to get around, AND eventually are unable to walk without using a walker. This is also why Dr. Bernard has a pencil neck. The pronounced square jaw you see on his face is because his face has lost fat & muscle....we are seeing more & more of his skeletal frame because of his diet which is lacking in sufficient complete protein AND healthy fats. Think about what his body looks like under his clothing...not pretty. Now compare Dr. Barnard's face/body with, for instance, Dr.Andrew Weil, who is a year older than Dr. Barnard and looks healthy and robust. We do not see bones sticking out on his face. Dr. Neal looks like he could be knocked over with a feather. His face looks skeletal and gaunt. Dr. Weil follows the Mediterranean diet and is not meat, (animal protein) phobic nor is he lipid phobic (i.e. healthy fats). Depriving ourselves of the increasing QUALITY protein (i.e., complete protein) that we REQUIRE as we age (specifically complete protein, i.e., all 9 essential amino acids - in other words *animal protein s sufficient animal protein. And no aim not talking 'carnivore' diet). Without incorporating complete protein in sufficient amounts in our diet, especially as we age, will put us squarely on the path to sarcopenia. After the age of 25 our body's natural hormones, which in our youth encouraged muscle protein synthesis, begin to wane. Every year these muscle growth hormones are lowered even further, and we need to begin relying more and more on ingesting sufficient amounts of whole *complete protein to help maintain our muscles. And I'm not just referring to muscles like biceps, glute muscle, quadricep muscle that make us look good and keep us strong - I'm talking about skeletal muscle (muscle mass that attaches to our bones) that keeps our body functional well into advanced age. Two things that are imperative in older age to help maintain our muscular structure- strength (resistance) training exercises AND sufficient QUALITY (complete) protein in our diet - that means the full complement of all 9 essential amino acids in quantities that surpass the protein RDA (protein RDA is outdated and was established decades ago at the lowest amount of protein to sustain life - not to THRIVE, but to sustain life) - we need higher amounts of complete protein than the current RDA the older we get...again, because our bodies no longer have the hormones we had in our youth to build/sustain a healthy amount of muscle mass. Google Dr. Gabrielle Lyon, MD who practices 'Muscle Centric Medicine' in N.Y. , for the correct data on why we need to increase our quality protein intake (and regularly strength train) as ws age, to avoid debilitating sarcopenia in our older years. . She knows what she is talking about (& practicing in her medical clinic) Her medical training included a post-doctoral internship in Geriatric Medicine.

Never listen to people without basis, Chuck. I eat lots of rice, and other grains, all kinds of sweet potatoes, glutinous rice, etc, my blood glucose is just slightly above 4 mmole/liter. Most of the vegans who have these problems are not contributed by the wholesome carbo foods but from other foods like eggs or dairy! Many adventists are oval-lacto vegans and their data is about the same as any omnivores! Just go for yearly medical screening to check your blood glucose! Like what Dr Bernard have explained are based on scientific data not hearsay, everthing goes according data! Eat as simple as possible like salt, pepper, spices, garlic, onion, ginger, etc. I have been a vegan for 21 years, my HDL, LDL, blood glucose, heamoglobin were excellent as commented by my non vegan doctor! Many people who reverse their vegan diet back to omnivore diet are people who are lack of faith and normally eat something 1. Man-made, 2. Without fibers! Of all the questions raised by listeners Chuck raised with all kinds of health problems like migraines, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, etc even they are vegans, I would say they are unwholesome vegans! or oval or oval-lacto vegans! It is impossible to have high cholesterol, if you are a vegan! As for high blood pressure, even dehydration, too much blood glucose, irregular sleeping time, etc can cause high blood pressure!
So happy to hear this information, believe it or not, sometimes give a second listen, thinking of eliminating animal products, Giving up my favorites dairy(Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, hard cheddar, and OM Gosh Feta) this is crazy, ok, truly appreciate You Both. Take care, God Bless
I just read something about why your headaches could go away with a vegan diet yesterday so I thought I'd share for those asking. Dilation of blood vessels in the head is a common cause of chronic headaches. It's thought that fat from our food absorbed from the intestine into the bloodstream can cause blood components such as platelets to stick together as mentioned. This begins a complicated chemical process in our bodies and results in the release of hormone like substances called prostaglandins., which cause the headaches by dilating the blood vessels in the head. Eating low fat vegan diet however the platelets are much less likely to clump so that prostaglandins are released less often and headaches are prevented. Which makes sense because that's why we love drinking coffee because the caffeine in coffee constricts blood vessels also and its the reason it's in Excedrin.
Thank you. That was an excellent explanation, I understand much better now. And once again why I love my morning coffee quite so much! I believe a lot of us get confused between vasodilation and vasoconstriction… I know that I do. Everything in moderation, a?
I became vegan a yr ago bc of several medical problems, one of them were constantly having horrible migraine. After I made my transition, the migraine disappeared. 😊
I have had migraines since puberty. When I was younger I didn’t eat that much protein and doing research on causes of migraines made me realize how much it was lacking in my diet. As soon as I incorporated tuna on a regular basis in my diet, my migraine frequency reduced by 50%.

I appreciated what you said about the migraines and the allergic-like reactions that can cause them. I'd definitely like it if you could talk more about mast cell issues, especially given that Mast Cell Activation Syndrome is incredibly underdiagnosed (it is estimated to affect up to 17% of the population but few have a diagnosis), and mast cells are also implicated in numerous other health issues. I think you could help a lot of people if you discussed this

For migraines keep in mind that you could also have some gut issues and you react even to some / most vegetables, it's not only the animal products. For me I can get migraines with most vegetables, legumes and nuts. Can only eat grains and sugar pretty much 😔.
I am shocked that a lot of vegetables, beans, and nuts give you migraines! Ack! I mean, the nuts aren’t TOTALLY shocking, but the other foods are worrisome.
@@Atheria444 that's what happens when doctors overprescribe antibiotics... My gut diversity is down to basically zero. And repopulating it isn't as simple as throwing in some probiotics or fermented foods.
I am in a similar boat! Have you tried pumpkin seeds? Of all the nuts and seeds, they are the only one that doesn't hurt. It might also help to cook your beans from scratch (and like possibly soak them first). Idk why, but it seems like people will mast cell overactivation are sensitive to the antinutrients in legumes and canned ones aren't great in that regard. And this is not talked about much outside the Mast Cell Activation Syndrome and Mastocytosis community, but in general, overactive mast cells are actually a big reason for why people get migraines even without the presence of a mast cell disorder. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/15960987/#:~:text=Brain%20mast%20cells%20can%20also,to%20precipitate%20or%20exacerbate%20migraines. And of course talk to your doctor about this, but it might help to do a quercetin supplement. This paper talks about that is helpful or migraines, and the reasoning for why it helps is just like Dr. Bernard said in the video. Some people have allergic-like reactions to certain foods (the mechanism is through mast cells), and so things that target the mast cells does often work. Quercetin is a natural mast cell stabilizer, along with curcumin, vitamin C (but many seem to react badly to citrus), and some other things. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7070237/ Based on what you said about the antibiotic issue, it might help to find a low-histamine probiotic. Histamine is one of the things that makes mast cells activate, and fermented foods and probiotics tend to have a lot of histamine. I know there's at least one or two low histamine probiotics on the market luckily.

I agree that carbs are less calories and it is harder to overdo, but you CAN do so! If you habitually stuff yourself and eat ANY food all day, you can can eat too many of them. If you did it with cheese, ice cream, and meat, you can overdo it earlier. The act of eating can be compulsive. Discipline is needed until it becomes habitual to stop eating and limit or avoid in-between meal snacking of any kind.
@Janet I strongly disagree. Try and eat 5000 calories everyday of fruits, potatoes, boiled grains and beans everyday, without any overt fats or oils. It's impossible unless you are extremely active.
@Bill Ding the constructor I agree. People have actually told me that I need to eat more even though I'm eating 2000-3000 calories a day, very low fat high carb. My bmi is only 19
I would just focus on whole plant based foods. Limit processed foods and no animal based foods. Calorie density as well as nutrient density is key. A person would go a lot further just eating whole plant based foods with low calorie density rather than will power and discipline.
I'm not convinced that calorie density matters that much, at least with high carb plant foods. Dates are about 1200 calories per pound and it's almost impossible to eat more than 2000 calories of them in one day. Boiled grains and legumes like, quinoa, oats, rice, buckwheat, beans and lentils are about 600 calories per pound, half the calorie density, and I can eat 2500-3500 calories of them in a day. If I also eat whole grain bread, about 1200 calories per pound, I still eat the same amount of calories as I would have if I ate boiled grains at 600 calories per pound. I think limiting fat and oils matters much more than calorie density.
@@dj-fe4ck Well I am just focusing on whole plant based foods without oil, sugar, and very little salt as the sources of my calories and macros since I don't want to count calories or be concerned about macros which becomes more of a challenge when you add processed foods such as oils and refined sugar. I have noticed others do this type of thing and successfully lose weight so I think there may be something to the whole calorie density thing. Of course you go do what you want.
Okay, something should be said about the individual's response to carbohydrate amounts in a meal, even with PBWF. I, for instance, get sugar spikes if I ingest more than 80 grams of carbohydrate per meal, and I only eat whole food sources, no processed junk. I experience tiredness and fatigue 30-45 minutes after a meal with say 100-110 grams of carbohydrate (2700 calories maintenance daily over 5 meals). If I ingest 65-80 grams of the same carb sources, no spike. Because of this, I track my macros and calorie intake to find the best mix. This is essential if I want to feel my best. Blanket statements like the amount of carbohydrates does not matter can be misleading. For it does matter according to the individual, and this requires tracking, at first, to find the optimal dialed-in ratio.
If she's vegan and her cholesterol is still high then she may be consuming coconut and/or palm oil. Sometimes these oils are hidden in vegan processed foods and supplements.

@@kimglover8018Yes! :) That was kind of my point. There are so many different triggers and they are cumulative until you reach your threshold. So even if food is one one day that puts you over, it may not be al the time. It so much more complex than this makes it sound.
An old herbal remedy that I knew to work for one life long migraine sufferer: feverfew. Can cause nausea, so start with a small dose and work up to a larger one so your body can build tolerance. You can probably find suggested dosages with google. You might also try taking it in different ways, such as capsules, extracts, and teas.
No, the big issue is complex as opposed simple carbs! People, esp. Americans, are simple. Please don't just say rice, potato, etc. Be specific. Also, sugar is very bad for many Americans.
I tried to put a pat of butter on my sweet potato once, never did it again. I eat 1-4 sweet potatoes per day if you need to top them you are not roasting them long enough. They are almost as sweet as a candy bar.
My favorite salad dressing is salsa. 5 calories per table spoon. It tastes great. It is fat & oil free. You can even mix in a little unfiltered apple cider vinegar with it to give it more kick. It goes really well on a salad when you top that garden salad with diced peaches or mandarin oranges along with some chickpeas too, don't forget a little sliced pickle as well. Mmmm. It's one of my staples. Even with half a cup of garbanzo beans & like 10 table spoons of salsa on a monster garden salad with onions, celery, peppers, tomatoes, shredded carrots & lots of leafy greens it's less than 300 calories.

Animals will always have higher contamination than plants because they feed on the plants/plankton and the toxins build up in the flesh. If you eat the flesh you are getting the concentration of everything the fish has eaten.
Depends on the source of the seaweed. Some is grown in large tanks. Also the pollution doesn't accumulate in seaweed in the same rate as in fish, since it's the first on the food chain
Fish is way worse as toxins like mercury, dioxins, PCBs, microplastics, radiation etc. bioaccumulate in the fatty tissues of the fish. Seaweed is the preferred way of getting iodine.
I am 57 years old and I have been a plant-based for 2 years now. I eat no meat products and no dairy products at all. I went to the doctor to have my blood drawn and I found out that I am a diabetic, its range was at at 12. Everything else on the test was great. I don't know what I'm doing wrong to be a diabetic. What are your thoughts of what I am doing wrong? Thank you very much.
Any chance you're using a lot of oils? It's usually animal fats that are the culprit, but a high amount of plant oils might be of concern in your situation.
Have you ever heard of coconut oil applied topically raising cholesterol levels? I've been vegan, low fat, no oil for about two years. Just recently had blood tests done showing very high cholesterol. Also, had acne appear just before going wfpb, no oil. This continued to be a problem for two years (I'm 60!). My doctor suggested I check my skin care products for coconut oil. Sure enough the topical B-12 lotion (applied to inside of forearms) I was using every morning lists it as the first ingredient. Also, the tooth powder I was using has coconut oil. I discontinued both and haven't had a breakout since. Haven't had new blood work done yet.
No, applying oil on your skin is NOT the same as eating it. I eat very high carb low fat and don't eat any overt fats or added oils, but even I am not that extreme to worry about oil on the skin or in soaps or toothpastes.
I got rid of migraines eating eggs, bacon without nitrites, no grains, no added sugar, lettuce, no root vegetables, pork, chicken, red meat, lamb, tuna. Any processed foods.
My husband need to loose about 60 lb and is asking if he can have some alcohol while on this weight loss diet, or better no alcohol at all. Is bread ok? If so how much. Note: I have been a vegan for many years and never ever gain weight. Perfect cholesterol and perfect heart rate.
Brown bread is fine, but best to get in in fibre along with a bread maker to avoid all the fake crap commercially-made bread has added in, along with the plastic.
I would say that most doctors say that lowering alcohol and flour products helps during the weight loss phase and that is even the WFPB doctors but lowering sugar and fat helps even more. Dr. Greger adds that lowering both alcohol and flour to his 21 tweaks of things that help with weight loss.

Corn is not a vegetable -- it's a grain. Corn has a medium-high glycemic index (slightly higher than wheat, but lower than rice). And cooked corn has little nutritional value compared to real vegetables and even compared to many other grains. I love the occasional bit of farm-bought corn-on-the-cob like anyone, but otherwise I avoid anything with lots of corn.
Excuse me Dr. Barnard but your statements about Japan are not quite accurate. I lived in Japan. Yes they eat rice, and at least twice and sometimes 3x a day; however, the servings are relatively small. They also serve many other dishes at every meal..soup, veggies, pickled veggies, fish, maybe a bit of meat a few days a week, but PORTIONS ARE VERY SMALL. Japanese people walk a lot every single as part of their every day living. They eat communally as often as possible. The amounts of food, including complex carbs, that I see american vegans eating are outlandish. Portion sizes matter.
Perhaps. But Dr. Barnards studies have allowed people to eat whatever portion they wanted as long as the foods were low fat and he succeeded at reversing diabetes and people lost 1 to 3 pounds per week without looking at portion size and that is why he is saying that.
Bananas give me migraines especially if I eat them in the morning or had a very light lunch, basically if I have a relatively empty stomach. Took me years to figure it out.
Dr. Barnard - my friend had a gastric sleeve put in and was told to eat a high protein diet. When she learned I was eating a WFPB diet, she wanted to know if she could implement a WFPB diet with her sleeve? I told her "I don't know". What do you say?
Put it this way, the likelihood that her MD knows anything about nutrition is quite low. Probably the doctor meant low fat. And they think that may equals fat, which it does, should I say low protein? Just a thought
Being insulin resistant and having been vegan for a year and a half, I went OMAD for 4 weeks, and lost weight, but plateaued. I'm basically pre-diabetic, my parents are diabetic, my waist is 41 inches. I'm really scared about carbs, but really like sweets 😔 what can I do to lose weight? 84kg, 168cm in a woman body😶 how much carbs is too much carbs for my goal?
You should read the book Mastering Diabetes by Cyrus Khambata and Robby Barbaro. They are both diabetics but explain how you can do a plant-based diet and reverse diabetes. I myself was pre-diabetic, but after switching to a WFPB lifestyle, I’m not anymore AND I’ve lost over 91 pounds!
I had that problem. I started doing Dr. Greger's 21 Tweaks and insulin resistance went away. Things like apple cider vinegar and Amla normalize blood sugar very quickly. (I have the amla in pill form.) Amla has a study where 3 grams normalized blood sugar in 1 week. Once that is done the sugar spikes and rebound hunger goes away really quickly.
Learning about insulin resistance might help. For instance, eating late at night causes it. Not sleeping causes it. Too much stress causes it. Too much caffeine causes it. Eating too much sugar and fat. I had gone Whole Food Plant-Based no oil but I still needed the apple cider vinegar or amla because I don't sleep, have a lot of stress, and get out of work so late that I don't eat dinner until 9 pm or after. Dr. Greger explained that low glycemic foods respond like high glycemic foods at night. I had to shift some of the calories to morning instead of night and I had to add in things like lentils and beans which prevent sugar spikes. Each thing that prevents sugar spikes helps. If you do things like drinking soda or cooking with oil, just getting rid of those can help.
I've been eating plant-based the past couple years, but noticed something strange - I'm fine eating tofu, tempeh, and edamame, but have lower digestive issues (cramping and diarrhea) when I eat soy milk or soy milk-based frozen desserts. My mom says she also shares this sensitivity. What is it about soy milk that causes me digestive distress when other soy products don't? Would love to know! Thx!
I to can not eat nor drink soya makes me sick I get itchy skin so I avoid it all ,and I make sure when I'm shopping to look at soya in the foods I'm buying a friend had some lovely bars this was before I took up a vegan lifestyle and when I was half way through I suddenly felt unwell so that was a red flag so I'm more aware to look out for it .
Dear Doctor Barnard, can you please explain to me why I need carbs in my diet for energy, when I have been carrying around 50 pounds of stubborn fat for 30 years? Would it not make more sense for me to finally USE those 50 pounds for the energy my brain and body need? Why eat yet MORE carbs for energy, when I already have ample stored energy? For that reason, I am exploring the low carb diet, to try to CONVINCE my body to FINALLY use that saved energy. So far, it is working far, far better than high carbs. My body is FINALLY starting to use my fat for energy. Also, I don’t take anything on trust just because someone says it on UA-cam. I am reading the actual published research articles (peer reviewed) and there is ample evidence that low carbs have MASSIVE benefits, most importantly in terms of improving insulin resistance (and its results, notably obesity and diabetes). Why don’t you mention that research? At least acknowledge it and offer your own counter arguments?
I eat Oat groats in the morning with fruit and Oat milk then veggies and a starch in the evening and I've gained 4lbs in a week. What is going on?? I do not want to get fat.
if we were meant to only eat plants than why do you still need to take a B-12 supplement? Also, how do you explain that since the low-fat craze started back in the 90s, obesity has gone up?
The standard american diet has NEVER been low fat. The SAD diet is 40-50% fat. Low fat is 15% fat or lower. The SAD diet is also very low in fiber. It's very difficult to eat a diet that is low fat AND low fiber.
I eat 400-800 grams of carbs a day from whole foods, very little fat, and no ultra processed junk foods and I am 5'8" and 120 pounds and I don't even work out now.
Obesity has gone up because people eat larger portions especially sugar and don't exercise. As for B12 we would b able to receive all B12 from plants if the agriculture didn't remove the beneficial stuff from the soil. Nothing wrong with supplements btw.
@@dj-fe4ck whoa that's a lot of carbs! do you know roughly how much protein you get in a day? Also, just curious do you looked toned? Even though you don't work out.
@@VaillancourtLJ Most days I eat anywhere from 40-120 grams of protein. Some days it can be less than 40 grams if I eat mostly fruit and on other days it can be over 120 grams if I eat a lot of beans or lentils. I would say that I looked toned.
I get so discouraged when Dr. Barnard continues to say oil is ok. Oil has no nutritional value, leads to insulin resistant, and is bad for the cardiovascular system. I hope you will in the future discourage people from using oils.
He mentions to take oil out of the diet or low your oil intake so actually discourages the use of oil so the comments questioning his stance are not appropriate and unnecessary. It is up to each individual whether they consume oils and I have chosen to be on a low oil vegan WFPB.
#doctor room live, what would you due when you're vegan and you have been diagnosed with prostrate cancer how would you ad vise then I listen to you often
To me there's a big difference between a sweet potato and noodles, even without toppings. Dr. Barnard is great but to me he's too permissive of processed and high glycemic carbs and too restrictive of whole plant fats like nuts, seeds and avocados. That's why I'm a fan of Dr. Fuhrman and not of Dr. McDougall.
I admire Dr Furman for his scientific truth and exactness, but it's almost impossible to eat like him. Both Dr. Barnard and Dr.McDougal makes eating plant based doable.
@@melyndaduh3501 I''ve moved more whole food plant based over many years, like gradually walking into a cold lake rather than diving in. That's what works for me.. At this point, I come pretty close to eating Nutritarian, but probably more Dr. Greger style. Dr. G seems like the bridge between the low fat vs reduced starch camps.
Keep going for a few more weeks. Once you are past insulin resistance it should work out fine as long as you are not using oil and are not eating processed food with its added oil, salt and sugar. Dr. Barnard said that it often spikes higher the first week and then levels off. Try to stop eating by 7 at night and put the higher glycemic index fruits and vegetables earlier in the day.

Crazy that Dr. Barnard is about to be 68 years old.

Yes, he'd look more 'Western-Eye Perfect' if he were to throw on some nice pounds of meaty muscle, but truly . . . no improvement to his health.
I'm really not even sure that going into old age that skinny is a bad thing for a man. I think for women the osteoporosis may be more probably with zero gravitational forces on the joints for the last few decades of life.

Quercetin is a natural mast cell stabilizer, along with curcumin, vitamin C (but many seem to react badly to citrus), and some other things.
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7070237/
Based on what you said about the antibiotic issue, it might help to find a low-histamine probiotic.

Gone vegan but have to keep my coffee. I don't drink coffee to wake up, I wake up to drink coffee. 😄
Great information! Thank you so much Gma Jo

@@tonivandyke5066 Yup, I've done that. I've had these for about 20 years now. I've done that for much longer than a week. I went vegan in 95 and my migraines started in 01 or 02. But thanks.
Maybe the triggers aren’t diet related?
My fiance makes us egg nog w them. So delish
@@Nina-hk7ub does he use eggs? If not please tell me the trick!!
@@eugeniebreida1583 no. He uses plant milk, sweet potatoes, dates & spices..
Rice, especially brown rice, very often contains high amounts of arsen. This is a huge problem! So why do'nt you mention that at all?
Loved this!!
How do I lose weight on a plant based diet with Thyroid problems, hypo.? Finding it very difficult! Help?
Sea vegetables are a very high source of amino/ omega 3 acids as well are hemp seeds & raw cannabis & hemp, avocados omega 6 rich. As for B12 water lentils/duckweed is a good unprocessed source. As for D1-2-3 sunshine soaked upside down mushrooms along with K2 from lactofermented plant foods.
I have glaucoma. Have been plant based 3 years. Do you have any advice.
Thanks Ken
I am interested in your question and the answer also. Thank you!
Kenneth Jones I know you're asking about food, but I'm going to remind you - please always take your eye drops & keep your appointments every three to six months. You can keep your vision this way. Do not be lax in any of this. Take care.
How soon can one see a positive change in labs and weight-loss?
Can you please talk about iodine? If fish is contaminated, wouldn't the much recommended seaweed be contaminated as well? What to do?
Take an iodine supplement. @Mara
I love this! Thank you Dr. Barnard ❤what you think about tofu. Is it ok to eat tofu?

I am 57 years old and I have been a plant-based for 2 years now. I eat no meat products and no dairy products at all. I went to the doctor to have my blood drawn and I found out that I am a diabetic, its range was at at 12. Everything else on the test was great. I don't know what I'm doing wrong to be a diabetic. What are your thoughts of what I am doing wrong? Thank you very much.
Wow 😯. How is that possible? Is it weight related?

Eggs are very high in cholesterol though.
I remember for some reason in the radio news ça 77 Icelanders are the longest living people in the world Japan comes second .The following year I heard in the news Japan is the longest living people in the world Iceland comes second. In Iceland at that time fruits and vegetables was unknown except maybe potato’s but fish and lamb meat was Iceland staple foods
How long does it take on average for your health to be reversed from “unhealthy” to “healthy” or from say from hypothyroidism to “healthy”; having energy and no more symptoms of hypothyroidism when going vegan?
There are so many holes in his selling points. Folks should review research on advantages for hflc diet, also. Experts are cherry picking research on both philosophies - hflc & nfhc.
How low is really low when limiting/avoiding your oil consumption or when your cooking?
Do we need to be concern with keeping blood sugar from spiking insulin?
Sorry to hear that. It's good you eventually nailed down the cause though.
Do you also have a latex allergy? Bananas have a latex like substance on their outer skin. I'm latex allergic. The allergist helped me figure it out
@@happycook6737 no allegery to latex.
@@RiDankulous thanks. It was a great discovery.
It's the amines in bananas that cause the headaches. Same is true for dairy and meat. It depends on how fresh the meat is and how it's cooked.
It took me 4 days to stop having headaches after I stopped caffeine. Ugh! But I’m off caffeine
Congrations! So proud of you!! I quit coffee during an exam and I fell asleep during it.. LOL
I am plant based but I need coffee in my life 😂
Dr. Barnard hasn't had dairy in a long time. I don't think anyone puts "cheese doodles" on their potato. lol :)
😄
I have low bloodpressure and if I eat garlic To muchfor my body or lime juice. I do get headaches.
Garlic lowers the blood pressure. The Headache, is probably from the low flow of blood to the brain, due to the drop in blood pressure...🙂
This may be a dumb question, but how do I submit a question for Dr. Barnard?
Dr Fung Dr Rusting and other 10 medical professionals advise low carb and high fat for diabetes. Quite confusing!!
What about basmati rice?
How much oil is too much for average vegan as well as a athletic runner?
@Falhawk73 vegan keto, you mean?
Before you do keto read Dr Barnard's books on diabetes and listen to his talks on this channel
Too much carbs will raise alt and ast on liver panel?
You eat too much, you can lose weight on any diet but you will have most health benefits on a plant based diet.
He says the opppsite, no oil at all. Where did you hear him say that?
Yea..he does give the impression that it's ok
How many minutes into the video does he say it?
@Barbara M, Dr Barnard does not advocate oil.
What about Himalayan salt?
Fasting blood sugar getting too high after my low fat high carb vegan diet for a week?!
