Lex was right about dancing in the '80s. It was a non-stop sweat fest. The music was so fresh, original, and incorporated the new digital synthesizers. It was a Renaissance of new music and enlightenment. There was never a lack of creativity and always some new beat or riff to explore. It was anawesome time to be in high school and young adult.

The GoGo's were ahead of their time and Lex is right in the fact that they were bad-ass rebels. They looked like the girls-next-door but were known to party hard and got in a little bit of trouble with excessive partying. They are a very successful all-woman rock band that played all their own instruments which was a rarity in the late seventies/early eighties when they were just breaking out! They are very underrated as rock icons so I am so happy they finally received their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2021! Check out some of their other hits, such as, We Got The Beat, Our Lips Are Sealed, and Vacation! 💖💖

My favorite song by these women! Now that they have their rightful place in the Rock Hall of Fame the world finally makes a little sense.
You nailed it Lex, "They're rebels." Yep, they started as a punk band; a bonafide, genuine, respected punk band before they became the cute pop/rock band they appeared to be later as they got big.
the singer was the first drummer for "the germs" i dont think she ever played a show however. Punk? not so much.

The bass and the clap towards the end has stuck with me since I was 11 and I’m 53 now!! These girls were awesome and truly bad ass!!
So much fun. The girls are back together and touring again (Gina was out with medical issues, so Clem Burke [the drummer for Blondie] subbed in, but they've been doing fine).
Belinda is currently 63 (she's one day younger than Madonna) and her voice is a great as ever. The clips I'm seeing from their shows are taking me back, effortlessly.

A must-dance tune SO popular at high school dances back then, the floor was flooded when songs like this came on. You couldn't help it.
Don’t let their clean cut looks fool you these girls were partying punk rockers in early 1980’s
Lex was pretty accurate about them being rebels..they started out as punk and are notorious in the early days for their um lifestyle on the road , there was a shocking video at that time of them on their tour bus..today with other band stories it isnt as big of deal but back then it was.
That was the thing about the New Wave movement: for a hot minute all the punks and the robotics and well-dressed "mod" boys and the girl bands were all this one genre, before it shook out over the next couple years through the early 80's. They were all playing the same shows to the same audiences. So the Go-Go's really were playing to hardcore punk crowds early on.
Oh, heck yeah. The girls all had the nice and smiling reputation and they got good press, but they could party like nobody's business. Give them enough booze and coke and a hotel suite and they could burn Palm Springs to the ground, IYKIM.
Gina Schock (the drummer) went on to date Jodie Foster in the early 1990s. Jodie was the stable, serious one in that pairing.
This is why being in college in the 80s was so much fun.

Love the Go-Gos. And yeah they definitely got caught up in the rock'n'roll lifestyle of drugs and booze; so much so that one of them (Charlotte?) was actually kicked out of Ozzy's dressing room for being too out of control. I can't even imagine that level of intoxication.
Apparently, all of them were kicked out for being unruly, but can you imagine? Charlotte was the quiet one.
Lead guitarist/piamist here Charlotte Caffey wrote the theme for the TV series 'Clueless.' I charted it in case some of the girls I taught band wanted to play it. Did the 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' theme with a boys group.
This was like our first all girl band back in the 80's...and they kicked ass! None of them knew how to play an instrument when they started out, but they had to learn! Then came the Bangles. 😁😉👍

You're right. The Go-Gos were notorious partiers. Several ended up with drug issues. But it went behind drugs & alcohol. They indulged in groupies too. The 80s were a wild time.

I was shocked when I saw she wasn't making the same $ as some of the band members because she didn't write any songs! Her stunning good looks was the identity of The Go-Go's! I'm glad they figured it out and now are paid equally!
I ve been a solid fan since they started. And this particular song, resonates still....I dont know each time i hear it, it sounds just a little different.. This song resonates even today

Every teen in the 80's were rebels. Just look at the teen movies back then e.g. The Breakfast Club, Footloose, Pretty In Pink, Streets of Fire, Warriors, Lost Boys..just to name a few. Heck, even the most popular teen actors at the time were called "The Brat Pack".

I had such a crush on Belinda Carlisle as a teen in the 80's. She was and is a very girl next door kind of cute :) Great talent also, along with her band mates. Here and gone, but they made their mark. More than most can say!
You nailed it lex I went to a after concert party in the 80s it was lit.. Everybody was enjoying the white libations to the max blinda was as high as a person could be without passing out. They made all there male groupies pull pants down and had a size contest. Thank god I wasnt in that contest..lol😎 The things I seen that night have made led zeppelin blush..🤪🤪

Belinda Carlisle started out as the original drummer of the LA punk band the Germs but was known as Dottie Danger. Pat Smear of Nirvana and The Foo Fighters was also in the Germs.

Man there was lots of dark with the girls...the one playing the piano was a heroine addict all throughout their time in the spotlight. Their partying was legendary. They werent squeaky and clean at all lmbo. However they were groundbreaking ...they wrote their own songs and music had the early to mid 80's in their pockets. The 80's honestly was such a strange and wonderful time to be a teen. I was like 17 when this song came out and yep we all wore ourselves out when we danced....lots of bopping up and down.

First concert I ever attended was The Go-Go's.
One of the greatest "Girl Groups"! The best one along with the "Runaways". Both awesome bands! One of my favorite Go-Goes songs and love the video.
The drummer, Gina Schock, had a solo project called House of Schock. They had a cool song/music video called, "Middle of Nowhere."

@@BKLYN_TZU thanks. I know it was before the "Carlton" dance and Alphonso Riberio has said he got part of the inspiration from how white girls were dancing at the time. So when I rewatched the video with Brad and Lex (isn't that what is great about reaction videos) I noticed Belinda dancing in a way I didn't when the video first came out. 😅

Do more GoGos! Lots of good songs and videos from these Rock n Roll Hall of Famers. Pretty girls. They were a great late '70s and '80s new wave, post-punk band. They always had good bass guitar, surf rock and bouncy music to 🕺 dance to. Definitely party animals rebels, punks from Southern California. Lol. They dressed new wave, punk style and hair, too. Yall picked it up. They broke up during the '80s and had solo careers. Lot of ppl danced back then, ha.

My favorite Go-Go’s hit! It’s quite deceptive because people assume it’s about falling head over heels in love but I think it’s actually about your life spiraling out of control…by this time fame had taken its toll on the Go-Go’s, there was a lot of substance abuse and partying, they pretty much hated one another, and they were about to break up. I think the song is more about that than falling in love.

The Go-Go's records were some of the best recorded albums of that era. The sound production was just top notch in an era that there was alot of very poor sounding records
I don't know for certain but I think the lyrics are less about being head over heels in love than about the topsy-turviness of being rock stars, being on the road all the time, and always having demands made of you. Belinda sings about "been running so hard, I've nearly lost all track of time" and "one hand's just reaching out and one's just hanging on". By this time in their careers they were all pretty into their own addictions and were burning out. But like others have said, that was the beauty of their music - it sounded like pop but always had something heavier underneath.

I remember waiting forever for this song to end, so I could make my awkward move…..The “kiss” was received well, but we looked like you might imagine. Her hair got caught in the frame of my glasses, and I proudly wore smeared lip-gloss on my cheek for the rest of the night. Thanks Gogos!

When police weren’t gunning down primarily black men. I grew up in a very diverse neighborhood and schools, we didn’t try and see our differences we went with what’s inside.

You should check out the gogo’s documentary. They put on the sweet girlie persona, but they were bad, bad, bad gals. They had to make it in the punk world predominantly, men. So they acted just like the guys, sex, drugs and music.
