- In prison, Daolon Wong and the Enforcers accidentally summon the demon Tarakudo while attempting to escape. When the Chans discover this after hearing that the Enforcers broke out of jail, they swiftly pursue the demon to Shendu's palace, whom Tohru recognizes from Japanese folklore. At the palace, despite Uncle believing him to be Chinese, Tarakudo reveals himself to be the ruler of the Oni, a group of Japanese demons that terrorized the world with nine tribes of Shadowkhan, also Japanese, until ancient warriors imprisoned each tribe's Oni general into a mask. When Chow ends up wearing the Oni mask that Shendu had been using to control Shadowkhan, Tohru finds himself being the only one to provide information on a spell that can remove it from him.

Daolon Wong and the Enforcers have been taken into custody and incarcerated. Planning to escape, Wong attempts to summon the Shadowkhan. Instead, he unleashes an ancient evil known as Tarakudo, Lord of all Oni and King of the Shadowkhan. Jackie and crew find out that the masks have been scattered across the globe and that each mask contains the power to control a different tribe of Shadowkhan as well as a different ingredient to remove and subdue the mask.

People give Zuko all the cred as the new archetypical redemptive villain, but Tohru did it first
Tarakudo was always my favorite of the Jackie Chan Adventures villains. Partially because he always treated his minions with some respect.
Agree. Also, unlike the other bosses, Tarakudo didn't just sit around and wait for bad news. He shows up a lot to help our his minions.
He had humor and good leadership
He was the Lord of the Shadowkuhn, so he needed some leadership skills.
I actually hated Tarakudo the most out of the villains. (My favorite was Daolon Wong)
I always wondered how Ninjas fit in Chinese culture but this episode and season explained that reason.
Between this and Season Three, Shendu has a tendency to covet others' powers. To be fair, this could also explain how he and not his siblings escaped limbo the first time around.

I can see Hsi Wu with Mask #3, Po Kong with Mask #4, Bai Tsa with Mask #6, Tso Lan with Mask #9, etc.
@@metamorpheus9573 considering what Tarakudo would do, I highly agree, but if they kept the masks in their separate domains/castles, they wouldn't have that problem.
I love this season simply for all the different Shadow Kahn we get to see

@@Orsonfoe I would pick the classic original shadow khan, because they have five fingers, including thumbs. Meaning they can serve me breakfast and do all sort of things for me. Like doing the dishes, taking out the trash, cutting the yard, go grocery shopping. Enforcing people to listen to me and stop ignoring me.

I loved this season. It gave the shadowkhan a deeper lore than just shadow ninja servants, to an ancient Chinese dragon Demon, but an even greater range from not only the ninjas but different types of shadow ninjas with different abilities and strengths. And Tohru got an even bigger roll this season as well.
I'm saying this again since I already said this on someone else's comment:
It would've been even better if Shendu and his demon siblings controlled each of the shadowkhan ninja clans based on their physiology

My childhood cartoon. I love watching it every Saturday. The wait and the anticipation every week for a new episode makes it worth it. Kids don't know how good they have it nowadays with everything on demand.
The fate of the world depends on Tohru.

This is definitely the episode of Jackie Chan Adventures that blew our minds and changed everything, at least for season 4

Think Tarakudo might be my pick for second best villain on this show. Behind only Shendu.
Im a big fan of Daolong, though in general I love James Hong
@@Tacom4ster Daolong was good, but Tarakudo had more personality and a cooler design/lore. I mean we never did learn about who Daolong was or where he came from.
Very good legendary back when cartoons were cartoons Early 2000s good times back then and I would sort of shows the historical conflicts between China and Japan as well as the unity of the heroes very good historical informative and you learn something you certainly don't see that in today's times
So glad you finally started giving us this season. Great change of pace in the writing

To be fair, had they left Tarakudo to do his own thing, he probably would have succeeded with this much quicker and with more casualties.

Daolon Wong and Tarakudo, my favorite seasons .. 😊
Now we come to my favorite season of this series.
One of my favorite and number one season of the bunch and diffenty show case Tohru gifts and most of all let him shine by going from student to teacher
A "role switch" moment.
I just realized Daolon Wong knew who Tarakudo was and Uncle didn't. This means that Daolon Wong likely knew the true origin of Shendu's ability to summon the Shadowkhan. Daolon Wong just owned Uncle in knowledge if nothing else.
Daolon Wong also knew about Lo Pei's petrification spell. It's safe to say that he is even older than he looks.
Season 4 was great loved how Tohru was the one who knew about the masks
This season was always my favorite because they had turned the background shadow minions into a threat with actual lore not involving the talismans or the demons, not to mention the designs for them all were great

Honestly, Jade's parents would of grounded her (if they found out about her dangerous "adventures" and for being a disobedient troublemaker) until high school graduation. Then again, maybe until she's 15 or 16 years old, to be fair.

Captain Black was a total bron in this ep. First he almost sacrifises to save Tohru, former enemy, now friend.
Then it was his idea to drive stairs car and help Jackie inside. Awesome!

I always loved masks, this was my favorite season.
9:43 Uncle needs to review his facts. The people who HE has seen controlling the Shadowkhan in the past were Chinese, but he forgets that the Shadowkhan are ninjas. And everyone knows ninjas (shinobi) originate from Japan.
I was always confused on why tarakudo never took Dow Long Wong from the prison as well as with his magic (even weakened at the moment) and a oni mask he could have been very useful.
Loved this season! Especially Uncle. MAGIC MUST DEFEAT MAGIC!!

Ever since I first heard Tohru warning the others about the masks being reunited that I figured out the consequences would be the same regardless of who reunited them.
Jade was clutch this episode with the parachute

Jackie Chan Adventures jumped the shark after season 3, but the show stayed true to its style all the way through. That alone makes the last two seasons worth watching, even if there's a certain quality drop.
