Nice video! Companies use more VPNs than individuals for security reasons, but having a centralized server is actually dangerous...Data leakage is almost unavoidable.

I did two things when I was in high school. The library club, (world wide web now), and the career counselors office. I did my entire high school education from the library, and the career counselor's office. Today I am secure, with 150+ job skills,(I stopped counting), and I have absolutely no need for a job ever...( I have not had a job for 40 years. I retired at 30,and again at 32, and then again, and again, and again...etc). Good luck to you.

@@agod5608 What does it mean you have no need for a job ever - thst you made enough money to never have to work again or you self sustain w food and trade? Is that why you retire after every 2 years on a job that you get just to learn another career/set of skills for personal satisfaction? If you are living off savings and/or pension, what will you do if there is financial/ government collapse or corruption?

You should mention after connectiing to VPN now you are trusting your data with that 3rd party company and you should check their policy for keeping records on the traffic you sent through them. E.g. How long they will keep a record of my activity.

Very helpful video, to the best of my knowledge though the server dealing with the requested web page won’t have any info on you. Firstly you’ll have a private IP so it will only go as far as your ISP’s router. After that, I think as the request makes its way over routers, they only hold a copy of the last IP requesting it - stored in the routing table. So if the request hops across five routers, each router will only know the IP of the previous router. Eventually it can work it’s way back to your ISP router, which has a record of the router IP that made the original request, sending it to your home router, which in turn holds a record of the IP of the device wanting the page. I’m happy to be proved wrong here if anyone has good knowledge on how the data packets make their way across.

Great video, A little bit of additional information: A IP Adres does not have to be like how he described it can also be a more modern version called IPV6. Where ipv4 adresses are running out, ipv6 has more adresses available. A ipv4 adress looks like : 1.160.10.240 where a ipv6 looks like this > 3ffe:1900:4545:3:200:f8ff:fe21:67cf
The reason why I mention this is because, if there are so many ipv6 adresses the adresses will no longer be linked to region or a city. Instead it will be linked to your personal device! They dont have to guess anything about you anymore, they will be able to track you down to the very device and house what you used to access the data. For this reason VPN is very important in that case then it is when you have a Ipv4 adress!

This is a feature of VPNs that isn't its original purpose. Useful information for individuals trying to hide or change their identity on the Internet, but NOT what people traditionally use VPNs for. The original idea was to connect private networks over the Internet to each other encrypted. It had nothing to do with "hiding" or changing your geolocation, but instead just connecting in a way that was secure and seemless.

Free vpn can actually be often time a less maintance of security despite allowing users to gain access to other countires services and it may even be a lot slower than a paid one. The paid vpn gives you more secuirty, for example higher level of encryption much more stable connection and higher bandwits which would increase your internet speed when connecting through the VPN.

The ISP might know if you're using a VPN when they look at the data and see random characters since it's all encrypted. Honestly, I can't give a definite answer to this.
Whether a VPN-service knows what you're accessing will depend on if they keep logs, like logs about the traffic, bandwidth or the IP-addresses of the VPN-servers that you use. Always pay close attention to if they keep logs of any kind.
I don't think VPN-services can see your passwords since websites typically use https on the login page. Which is also a form of encryption. Https prevents people from seeing what you're doing on a website, but say your ISP could still see that you've connected to the website (if you're not using a VPN).

I've been in IT for over 20 years, I have never heard a router get called a rooter. I'm pretty sure a rooter is for up clogging a sewer line.

Gary, there are additional factors to consider: whether the VPN is tracking your browsing habits, whether they're logging your IP, their jurisdiction, the user's location, and whether they physically own and operate their own DNS servers. The best do no track or log, own their own equipment, provide powerful encryption, and can't answer to any subpoenas because the don't maintain the info sought by authorities. In addition, there's the WebRTC exploit that revels IP addresses between certain browsers even if you're using a VPN.

Many thanks for an excellent video.
I have a few questions which I hope you can help with. At home my laptop, tablet and phone all go through my one router. So let's say I subscribe to a vpn service, do I get all my devices on the same service for the price of one? Also, can I take any of my devices to the local open hotspot and still be protected? One more question please: What if I want to do my on-line banking, (from home) now the bank sees a different IP address, will they let me in?
    Many thanks again.

Interesting info. About the pricing of products/services you may want. You say that prices can vary depending on which country you are accessing from (if not using VPN) then could the prices you get be higher if you use a VPN connection rather than your normal standard connection ? Has there been any analysis done regarding this ? You may end up shooting yourself in the foot with regard to prices if VPN should they be more expensive.
