I've watched this movie several times. I never understood why the maids could cook, clean, and take care of their children but, couldn't use their restrooms in fear of catching something even breast fed their kids. Never made sense to me.
I worked with a girl like this for a year and a half. It's amazing how people make allowances for such awful behaviours, and it is NOT nice being on the receiving end. They're all cut from the same cloth though, when I watched this movie I recognised the same mannerisms and everything. Bryce Dallas Howard is one amazing actress.
The actress who portrayed Hillie is one heck of an actress, in my opinion. Anyone who can make me hate a fictional character so much deserves an academy award. ❤
I watched this movie during my first week of college and I went with a bunch of nonblack people. I was hysterically crying throughout the movie, and they kept looking at me like I was crazy! I'll never forget that
“I’ll do whatever it takes to protect our children” So sharing a bathroom is dangerous, but you’re okay letting those women literally raise your children for you. Sure that makes sense 😂
T Blair you got jokes. it's okay that you think that way, but I'm just talking about the current times and what you see in the media. it's what you see in the news and newspapers, but your argument is about our infidelity. I think I just hurt your white fragility. For that, I think it was a win.
Both of of you are acting like ignorant children, dragging people under one comb. That personality you're talking about affects many people of ALL races. Luckily, not most people. And infidelity is not more inclined for hispanics, matter of fact, if you check statistics, the list of most unfaithful countries is topped by the Europeans, especially Scandinavians.
Lord, it's those comments like Hilly made; "As a Christian"....that drives people away from You. Forgive us all Lord for profaning Your name...LOVE THIS MOVIE
With Hilly, it's all about power, feminism, and being a voice for white supremacy. White women back then weren't allowed to be a part of politics or any position of power so they had to carve out their own freedom and their own say so and the best way to do that is through the household which was seen as a feminine domain. While white males exercised racism through politics, police, and rules and regulations, white women exercised their racism and their power in the household where they had absolute or close to absolute control.
I can’t believe that this was a real issue at one point my step father is Jamaican and I didn’t experience racism until he came into our lives the fact that people wanted separate bathrooms for different races is absolutely mental to me …

“See, God don’t give charity to those who are well and able. You need to come up with this money on your own.” Says the woman who lives off her husband’s money and has The Help, to mother her kids. Shes done nothing on her own except lay on her back.
I think all the actors in this movie were phenomenal. Sometimes a simple movie like is better than most action movies released by Hollywood . Loved this movie
@ 1:54 "Believe it or not, there are real racists in this town" speaks so well to the well-meaning racist, whose racism doesn't come from hate but from a misguided sense of racial insecurity. Hilly has probably heard of or even seen lynchings, has heard townsfolk use slurs and has witnessed violence against black people. To her, racism isn't the dehumanisation of black people through systems like law and police but rather the often brutal if not deadly treatment of black people. That's why she will never probably see why she is wrong.
It is so much worse if you watch only her scenes without the rest of the movie to balance it out. Ugh I hate her as much as I love Celia! And Celia Foote is one of my favourite characters in modern day cinema.
Credit should be given to her parents for that. They raised her, her brother and sisters in Connecticut, as far away from Hollywood as you can get. No spoilt brats in the Howard family.
Bryce Dallas Howard is such a good actress you hate her as Hilly b/c she is so mean and so racist and she is mean to her mother. She was in Terminator Salavation with Christian Bale. She has done some good movies even Jurassic World.
bryce is so underestimated. she is better than emma and Jessica Her southern accent, her body gesture and face expression nailed it! She played a evil woman but she is a good actress! Btw, I know Emma’s role is very kind and likable, but her performance is kinda awkward. It feels like a girl really like acting but sometimes try too hard.
She was probably in shock that Aibileen dared to speak to her like that. Remember Hilly is used to people treating her like she's the Queen Bee and expects everyone especially "the help" to obey her. So when Aibileen dropped the "yes ma'am" submissive act and told Hilly some home truths about herself and it caught Hilly by surprise as she saw herself through Aibileen's eyes and it wasn't exactly pleasant.
I mean to be fair hilly is right that adding an extra bathroom in your house is a good thing (especially in the 60s when houses had 1-2 bathrooms maximum) however her reasoning for the new bathroom is a little ……. problematic to say the least.
Hilly was a product of her environment. The movie villainized her when she refused to loan money to her maid. First of all, this maid just started working for Hilly… so when Hilly refused to loan her any money, she wasn’t wrong. And then what does the maid do? She steals from hilly. So I ask again, how is Haley wrong? She’s not. Now, what she tried to do to Abilene later on, THAT was absolutely wrong. But refusing to loan her maid money? No. She wasn’t wrong at all for that. People need to look at it from the other side instead of just assuming the “poor black maid is a victim.”That woman was a thief.
The "coloured people" do the cooking, shopping , washing, ironing, cleaning..... Not so worried about the "coloured situation and different diseases" then are we? And they raise the kids!

I loved how Minnie fed Hilly her Shit lol 😆
“There are real racists in this town”
Oh god, the irony
“Ain’t you tired Miss Hilly? Ain’t you TIRED??”
She was born to be a star.. so talented 👏
The actress who portrayed Hillie is one heck of an actress, in my opinion. Anyone who can make me hate a fictional character so much deserves an academy award. ❤
One of the greatest villans of all time
,,You're fired Minny Jackson!!"
Emma's curly hair is so damn perfect!
I watched this movie during my first week of college and I went with a bunch of nonblack people. I was hysterically crying throughout the movie, and they kept looking at me like I was crazy! I'll never forget that
❤❤. Bryce Dallas Howard
Ron Howard's daughter is a phenomenal actress
Shes an effective actress! 👏👏👏👏
Bryce is an amazing actress. I have hated her ever since this movie came out in 2011 just to show how great of an actress she is !!!!
“I’ll do whatever it takes to protect our children” So sharing a bathroom is dangerous, but you’re okay letting those women literally raise your children for you. Sure that makes sense 😂
*Well, that's the logic of a racist.*
The sad part is that her genetic throwback "personality" is what currently affects many White/Caucasian men and women nowadays.
Arturo Rodriguez tell me more about how all hispanic men are inclined to infidelity in their marriages and relationships.
Håvard Nesje plus Hispanics have European blood
Marchie Monroe
Not all of them... Don't throw everyone under the same umbrella if you don't know your proper history...
Elizabeth’s dress is so beautiful on the first scene.
You know she’s a good actress because she has everyone SEETHING in anger at her character
Hilly likes to be in control.
both octavia and bryce should have won the oscar
Let's face it, we've all had a "Hilly" in our lives at one time or another.
The way she says get off my toilet 😂
Payback comes for Hilly when Mrs. Phelan tells her "Get your raggedy ass off my porch!:
My grandma went through this, she’s told me so many horror stories
I can’t believe that this was a real issue at one point my step father is Jamaican and I didn’t experience racism until he came into our lives the fact that people wanted separate bathrooms for different races is absolutely mental to me …
When Abilene says you are a godless woman, I was thinking it.
That was being kind. I was thinking something worse, such as "See you next Tuesday!"
The woman who played Hilly was really really good in her role!!
Her name is Bryce Dallas howard
I love Bryce, she is a very good actress
She's a fantastic actress! I haven't been this angry with a character since Professor Dolores Jane Umbridge. Lawd have mercy 🤦🏿♀️ 😂 Excellent portrayal of putridity and narcissism.👏🏾
I don't like Hilly, but her wardrobe is 🔥😍
"Get Outta mah Toilet "👹👹
“See, God don’t give charity to those who are well and able. You need to come up with this money on your own.” Says the woman who lives off her husband’s money and has The Help, to mother her kids. Shes done nothing on her own except lay on her back.
I love skeeters joke maybe we should build you a bathroom outside hilly then she puts the toilets on her lawn.😁😁😁😁😂😂😂😂
All thanks to a well-placed "typo". Oops!
I think all the actors in this movie were phenomenal. Sometimes a simple movie like is better than most action movies released by Hollywood . Loved this movie
The part of all parts that made me so mad was when the second maid she hired asked for a small loan, refused, and said she’ll thank her one day. Oof…
I bet that maid got a laugh out of the part in the book about Hilly eating 💩. Two slices, no less.
I laughed really really hard when she said get off my toilet !!!!!
She was totally robbed of an Oscar nomination
Replice the «I» for a «E» in the name Hilly and you get... Helly... the writers knew what they where going for here----
It is so much worse if you watch only her scenes without the rest of the movie to balance it out. Ugh I hate her as much as I love Celia! And Celia Foote is one of my favourite characters in modern day cinema.
bryce dallas is such a good actress that i hated her so much in this movie and totally forgot she's a sweetheart in real life.
Credit should be given to her parents for that. They raised her, her brother and sisters in Connecticut, as far away from Hollywood as you can get. No spoilt brats in the Howard family.
amazing movie
I have a co-worker that looks exactly like Hilly.... it becomes confusing sometimes
Marrielle Thompson Ah, but does she act like her?
Bloombaby99 That is THE important question.
Passive aggressive tone? Talks to you like she's taking to a child? Is condescending nice? That's the typical sign of a closet racist.
Bryce Dallas Howard is such a good actress you hate her as Hilly b/c she is so mean and so racist and she is mean to her mother. She was in Terminator Salavation with Christian Bale. She has done some good movies even Jurassic World.
When you realize there are two Gwen Stacys in this movie
LOL yeah
Bryce dallas howard did a really great job!!
"God don't give charity to those who are will and able."
Um, technically he does. To those aren't able, and those who are as well.
Thus began a separate extra bathroom situation in housing
I can't hardly fathom these hardworking ladies wasn't allowed to use their employer's bathroom.
Ppl giving Hilly props for acting like a typical YT person acts in Mississippi!! The Blk actors are the only heros!
I can’t believe this was once Mississippi
"The book is not Jackson"😂😂😂😂😂
"Certainly not in Mississippi." Lol
Yep a typical modern day Republican
bryce is so underestimated.
she is better than emma and Jessica
Her southern accent, her body gesture and face expression nailed it!
She played a evil woman but she is a good actress!
Btw, I know Emma’s role is very kind and likable, but her performance is kinda awkward.
It feels like a girl really like acting but sometimes try too hard.
nah i think emma did alright it wasn’t a BAD performance
All the acting in the movie, for the most part is top-notch. Jessica is on a whole different level, IMO.
The GOP wants to Make America like this Again.
The GOP... lololol Did you see the scenery? Aren't all the neighborhoods just so beautiful now?
I'm surprised Hilly stood there and listened to Aibileen.
I honestly wonder if the whole bridge club actually hated Hilly and were tired of being controlled by her. Skeeter knew not to put up with her shit.
The "coloured people" do the cooking, shopping , washing, ironing, cleaning..... Not so worried about the "coloured situation and different diseases" then are we? And they raise the kids!
Do you also think that Bryce Dallas nailed the Mississippi accent? I like to think she did.
I would say she and Jessica Chastain both nailed it.
I'm a Christian and God... God commands us to help the people in need regardless of their skin or ethnicity
Fuckin love Bryce Dallas Howard, been a beauty ever since I seen her in Spider-Man as Gwen Stacy 😤
