I'm so glad you got a chance to see Godzilla Minus One, Eric. I've seen this movie twice and planned on seeing it for the third time. My favorite soundtrack was after defeating Godzilla and all saluted. Godzilla theme is also my favorite.
you don't understand how happy i am that you watched this movie and even better you watched it on the big screen i agree on how Godzilla minus one is one of the best Godzilla movies.
Yes Eric! So glad you loved it! They really knocked it out of the park with this film! Hollywood should not only learn from this film how to do Godzilla right, but how to do big budget blockbuster filmmaking in general.
This is my new favourite godzilla movie and as a fan of the toho films I'm glad there's a Godzilla movie that managed to top all of them. Take that monsterverse.
If you ever check out Shin Godzilla, I will say that the human characters aren’t as good but Godzilla is honestly at his most terrifying. The designs they use for him and the carnage that goes around is genuinely scary.
No minus goji is far scarier
Shin godzilla characters are bland but the m9vie isn't trying to have good characters it's trying to show the bureaucracy of the Japanese government and how bad they are at handling situations that need to be handled and instead reassure the public constantly which apparently actually happened during the 2011 earthquake which was devastating to the countries and cost many lives and damage and the citizens blamed the Japanese government for taking too long to act
Yeah, I really liked Shin Godzilla. I wish they would put out a version with all the more grotesque and horroric parts they cut out.
I've heard great things about Shin Godzilla but I still need to check it out
well minus-one did take some inspiration from singular point/ultima, along with shin and hopefully the sequel will be amazing as well and well get a new monster hopefully is either “gamera or angurius”
As much as I love the previous Toho films, they aren't able to hold a candle to this one (Other then the original, GMK and Shin). This is now my all time favorite Godzilla film, favorite film of the year, and one of my favorite films of all time.
Yeah it's also my favorite Godzilla movie and of 2023!

I just returned from the theatre, and yes, this movie is cinema!
In my opinion, there was absolutely nothing wrong with the movie. It was a perfect Godzilla movie, it was even a perfect movie. The characters were extremely well developed and you cared for them so much. Fantastic visuals despite the small budget and Godzilla is done so well as an embodiment of fear that you get scared for the characters whenever he shows up. Easily a 10/10 and the best movie of the year. Only Oppenheimer comes close.
Finally a monster villain that’s actually evil and not misunderstood, and the real villains being evil humans clitche. The trailers even hinted at giving an explanation why Godzilla was attacking by implying the nuclear explosions made him angry, and saying “He’ll never forgive us!” But no, the complete opposite! He doesn’t even mind the nuclear radiation as like other versions he eats it for food. He actually seems to be attacking for no reason; the humans don’t even provoke him in this version. He’s just a bully. The quotes in the trailers aren’t even in the movie.
I mean the original was like that and godzilla has always been a victim and this movie implied that as well as in the novel in the beginning pre godzilla when he was godzillasouras, the novel he didn't even attack the guy in the plane because he wasn't attacking him simply saying Godzilla doesn't attack unless provoked by other methods, and there if there is a sequal they'll probably dive deeper to his original since in the original there was 2 godzilla and one died and the other became the new Godzilla but both lost and saw there entire species wiped out in front of them developing a hatred for humanity, hell shin godzilla was like that too except humanity created something that didn't want to live by accident, the other godzilla movies are great and amazing
@@juniorsigala5028 yeah. I know that! I hear lots of the Toho Godzilla films are fantastic. I’m sure the motivation could’ve been that the atomic bomb caused the environment to become bad quality of air for life, and Godzilla hates when humans destroy the environment. Maybe also some of the dead fish was from radiation not from Godzilla. And yeah, I know he didn’t attack the plane because the pilot didn’t shoot him. But Godzilla going on a rampage on the city is the evil side where he’s furious and doesn’t go into consideration not all the people were involved in the nuclear thing. It’s a good enough ambiguity to still make him scary. Less is more. And in terms of horror over explaining ruins everything. I think Godzilla in Minus One however probably had a motivation, it’s just not clear nor is it relevant with the concerning matter to survive his non merciful wrath!
@ParkerCS2 I mean yeah that's what I'm talking about in the original godzilla didn't care who hurt or or who didn't he just wanted revenge against humanity that is it, idk if I mentioned it or not but the only truly evil godzilla was in the movie gmk in 2001 where he was intentionally killing people, either way I'm sure this Godzilla motivates would be explored in a sequal if it ever gets made since this movie hints at Godzilla and why he was attacking and obviously as the series went on they played with that idea
This godzilla explicitly attacks humans and causes destruction because he knows that they irradiated him with the bomb

Let’s be honest even with a low budget around a few million you can still surprisingly make a masterpiece out of it, this that you can’t relay on thousand million budget to make it look amazing because now of days it looks bad and don’t want to waste the howl damn thing but instead of utilizing it like GXK:TNE for example sacrificing the cgi for more monster action and I’m alright with that, *you see where I’m going with this right!*
I can't wait to check this one out.

you should check out the original movie simply titled Godzilla from 1954 if you want something very similar to Minus One, the characters are great and one in particular has to grapple with his own morality in some very tense and emotional scenes.
You pointed out all the good parts that was exactly thinking and I love how toho went back to the 1954 original of making Godzilla the villain again and of course, he was supposed to be a asshole I mean the radiation and mutation has caused him extreme amount of pain,suffering & torture! and his taking all his anger and vengeance against the people that somewhat created him aka the Godzillasaurus from “GVKG (1992)” but yet despite him being the villain again they still somehow manages to make him a well emotional-expressive-tragic character like monsterverse Godzilla ver, and give it a 9.9/10 close enough if they only show gory details like a cow for a uncut ‘54’ reference!

I loved this movie I don’t think Godzilla x Kong will be better than this
I think its unfair to compare the two like that as they are so different.
One is billing itself as a film with Kong as the main character needing Godzilla's help to free his people in a fun, goofy dumb Hollow Earth adventure akin to the Showa era.
Minus One is a reflection on the trauma of war and is telling a much more serious and personal story.
They are both reflecting the two sides of the Godzilla franchise.
Gxk isn't trying to be better than this, so it's not fair to compare the two

I just watched this movie a few weeks ago and I gotta say. This is the best godzilla movie I've ever seen since the 1954 movie.

There’s nothing wrong with Godzilla being a hero or an anti hero in some interpretations. Heck, Godzilla is actually more a force a nature than even a villain or hero in the MonsterVerse since he doesn’t intentionally harm people, the destruction is the aftermath of him killing other titans and kaju to maintain dominance as well to keep the peace.

I loved the classics as a kid. The film with Broderick ruined it for me. I was bored on Christmas and gave the new monster verse movies a try. They were ok. I’ve started rewatching the old Toho films on max past few days. I’m going to see this tonight. So stoked.

Well if you to watch a TOHO godzilla movies that have good human stories, I'd recommend the 1954 original movie, Godzilla vs, Biollante, Godzilla against Mechagodzilla (2002), & Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack. Especially Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack given that the director of G Minus One took some influence from that & if you though the Godzilla that appeared in Minus One was evil. Wait till you watch GMK. That incarnation of Godzilla is literally Death incarnate.
Please do a freeway versus video of the Godzilla animated series that being Hanna-Barbera, the 90s series and singular point and are we pretty profession? Are you doing versus videos of TV shows especially when you compare three of them so please do that next year and have a great one 👍💙

I think you should really watch Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters all out attack. It’s very similar to this movie (and it’s the director of Minus One’s favourite Godzilla movie)
Less than 15 Million Budget so cgi in some scenes is understandable. But great movie!

So you have not seen a Toho Godzilla movie all the way through last year, I saw all of them had a Godzilla marathon, saw all the Godzilla Toho movies in Japanese with subtitles except for the American versions I saw minus one with my friend, reading subtitles is not an issue to me

My one criticism with this movie is the ending. She should have died. The last scene in the hospital felt way too much like a cop out. Also I don’t like how the last shot sets up for a sequel. I would have preferred it to be a standalone story.
I do agree. I don't see how she could have survived that. So I agree, that was the only part of the movie that felt safe.
That being said, what it did for the relationship between the two characters was so new and fresh that I ended up loving it.
This is one of those times that I can look past this.
But I can totally understand if it didn't work. Because initially, your criticism was my criticism.
She needed to live. Does it make sense? No. But it made all the difference in the movie being a success or failure. I've seen it three times so far and would have never watched it again if she had stayed dead.

This movie is overrated
Eric tbh the old Japanese godzilla might have corney but charming characters but definitely have those that are well written and have good emotions depth and characters arcs, like in the original 1954 godzilla which i highly recommend wathcing after this one as both are basically the same movie but imo the original is still the best godzilla films, other movies are godzilla vs mothra the 1960s one from the showa era, godzilla vs mechagodzilla 1970s, the return of godzilla which you actually used a clip for that film, godzilla vs biollante 1989, godzilla vs mechagodzilla 1992, godzilla vs destroyah 1995, gmk 2001, and the godzilla against mechagodzilla dualigy from 02 to 03. Obviously i dont want to overwhelme you with godzilla so i highly suggest checking out the youtuber cinemassacre he made a godzilla beginners list video that i think will help you alot if your planning on getting into godzilla either way i hope your doing well and godbless
