- The Grinch by Dr Seuss is a classic kids story about togetherness and the true meaning of Christmas.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas from 1996 was a great animated special, but of course, Hollywood came in and decided to turn The Grinch into a feature film, and gave their understanding of the classic story of the mean one.
In this versus battle we are going to find out which of the three Grinch movies is the superior interpretation.

Merry Christmas Eric. For me the 2000 Grinch is the definitive one since it gives more depth to the story, the sets, makeup and look of the film practically bleeds Christmas and Holiday Cheer and Jim Carrey's performance is positively magnetic. It's impossible to not enjoy it.

Nah man, this movie was straight dog shit. I mean I dont remember there being dog butt kissing and the grinch’s face in human breast from the original dr suess story 🤷♂️ so overall it’s a bad representation of a timeless classic
For me, the definitive one should be the original book by Dr. Seuss.

Merry Christmas, Eric! The 1966 special was always a classic, and I enjoyed the 2000 version, though it was a little goofy for my tastes. Kudos to Jim Carrey for tolerating that uncomfortable looking make-up and prosthetics.

The Cat in the Hat may be Dr. Seuss’ most famous character, but the Grinch will always be my favorite.
Merry Christmas Eric. The 1966 Chuck Jones cartoon is a classic and will always be superior but the 2000 Jim Carrey version from director Ron Howard is a noble attempt to adapt a Dr Seuss book
Merry Christmas Eric! I knew the original short would win. It's a classic and I can't believe you didn't see it until just recently. I grew up with that version and saw it more times than I can remember. I do like Jim Carey's Grinch and if I was eleven, i probably would have thought it was the superior version. I also find i funny that you made that quip about Joss Whedon taking over and writing it cause the Nostalgia Critic made a quip about Michael Bay directing it when the Grinch causes that explosion.

The movie may not be the best, but How the Grinch Stole Christmas is an absolute classic for me and my favorite interpretation of the character.
1966 is a Holiday Classic that at the Time making it would be shocking that it Aged like Fine Wine and Seuss had full control over it while keeping his Vision of the Story Intact which nowadays is a Rarity, 10 out of 10, 2000 to me is my Favorite Grinch Adaptation and my Favorite of the Dr.Seuss Adaptations Second being Cat in the Hat(No Joke that’s a Guilty Pleasure for Mine), 2000 felt like a Improvement with Jim Carrey having my Respect in this Role and that Green Yak Made Suit and it makes me feel Emotional Every Time I see it, it also has Charm, Hilarious Moments, Soul, and Heart, it’s a Masterpiece that I would Rewatch Every Year even with its Flaws, 10 out of 10, and 2018 is a Abomination that plays it too Safe like the Lorax, but the Grinch is far worse as it’s the Worst Illumination Movie that I swear I fall asleep the more I Watch it, it’s Literally Illumination making a Grinch Movie and taking Elements and the Writers of Despicable Me but more Generic, Boring, Heartless, Soulless, and Tasteless, I will Never Watch 2018 Again, it’s a Terrible Movie and Adaptation that Insults the Original Source Material, 1 out of 10, Merry Christmas to you Eric Carter and Everyone and have a Wonderful New Year.
While I do agree with your problems with it and I do agree the 1966 version is superior, the 2000 Jim Carrey Grinch is still a guilty pleasure of mine.

Merry Christmas Eric. I loved both the Chuck Jones animated Grinch and the 2000's version growing up and I still do. Though I notice more of the flaws of the '00's film, Carrey's performance still remains the best element of the film..even with his improve moments he nails the grumpy characteristic of the Grinch. Which is more than I can about 2018's Grinch..I don't know what Illumination was thinking turning The Grinch into a awkward Dork that already has a heart?
The best version is definitely the 1966 animated short, it has stood the test of time.

Look I can understand the 2018 but 2000 one Jesus Christ like look that's your opinion but it's not that terrible it's actually an very good adaption of the Grinch in my opinion. I think Jim Carry did a phenomenal job playing the the Grinch . And what you mentioned, why would the whos take accountability it was years ago and they forgot about it their not going to take it to the grave. Like, I'm not trying to hate on your opinion, but giving it a 4 is an understatement that I don't even woke and be thankful it's not that.

It definitely got a lot of stuff wrong but it was still a fun and heartwarming film.
Honestly, the original grinch movie is really good. I enjoy the old one a lot. The very old one like I enjoyed that 1 a lot. I love that Christmas movie so much but live action. One-stop running my thing, but the old old 1 is definitely good I. Enjoy so much

I actually liked the 2000 and 2018 version. Yeah they weren’t faithful like at all, but I found some enjoyment out of them. That’s what makes it so special for me.
The jim carrey movie is good. Beautiful backgrounds and music, Cindy lou is adorable and brave, the Grinch is funny. I like it! The original has more heart and charm but this one is entertaining and fun; my favorite of the 3 🙂

Joking aside, Merry Christmas and a happy new year! (Also was a great video! Though I definitely recommend The mean one! Despite it seeming like another horror movie ruining a franchise with a cheap cash grab similar to..*Cough* Winnie the pooh blood and honey *Cough* but while it's blood is cheap af CGI...it's actually a great watch with actually cool kills! The mean one is kinda similar to Jim Carrey Grinch but a killer xD again, it's not a top tier movie, but it's definitely far from the worst! I highly recommend it! Would love to see you talk about it!)

Another of my favorite movie reviewers brought up a "what if" for 2018 grinch. What if, for most of the movie, he wants to take Christmas for himself because he never had it before, and wants everyone else to feel his pain. Then, when he realizes what he did was wrong and brings everything back, he heads up to his cave to be alone. Then, Max brings up a single strand of Christmas lights that the Grinch forgot to return. This gives the Grinch the idea to celebrate Christmas with Max, his found family and best friend.

The original Grinch will ALWAYS be the BEST! I do have a very small soft spot for the live action remake. Mainly because of Jim Carry and how much I'm a huge fan of anything he does. He's my personal favorite comedian ever. 98% of the time, I usually ignore remake live action adaptations of my favorite films. But if it wasn't for Jim Carry, I would have ignored it as well. Aside from Carry, the film COULD have worked. If it was an original movie. Instead of a live action remake of a classic cartoon. As for the new The Grinch....never seen it, nor I ever plan to. Especially after hearing so many negative things about it. But even if it was good, I don't care. The original animated film doesn't need to be retold countless times in different variation ways. Oh! and speaking of which, and as for that horror Grinch movie. *sign* ....please....just stop. The 1996 animated film is a timeless classic that hasn't aged and still holds up decades later! Hollywood can remake the Grinch all they won't, *BUT THEY WILL NEVER TOUCH THE MAGIC OF THE ORIGNAL FILM!*

One thing I'll say about the 2000s Grinch is that at least the comedy doesn't 100% date itself while the 2018 film...kinda makes me a little glad that Dr. Seuss Enterprises switched to Warner Animation for projects like Netflix's adaptation of Green Eggs and Ham with the second serving also being an adaptation of the Butter Battle Book; and Warner's upcoming adaptation of the Cat in The Hat (which I hope turns out better than whatever Mike Myers was doing in his.)
I never seen Grinch (2018) never will but I'll be watching How The Grinch Stole Christmas both 66, and the 2000.

Honestly, the original grinch is such a classic. I remember my father's showing me this first movie when I was a kid. And the first grinch was such my favorite.
As a teenager and as an adult really. I have a soft spark for the original. And the song is like, so perfect, like your mean one? It's just so classic. As for the other 2, the live action one was not really? My thing I watched it when I was in middle school and I didn't like dude. No offense to anyone who loves it. Ask for the 2018 1? Well I managed to watch us in theaters at first I thought it was okay. I guess, but then when I rewatched it. For Christmas tradition I was like it wasn't good honestly. No offense to anyone who loves it really? I mean, it could have been better. Could have been better. What is your favorite grinch movie? And which one would you prefer

You know what would have been an effective way to make the Grinch's actions sympathetic, have him working at a retail shop prior to Christmas! Anyone that works retail in December can tell you they don't blame him for wanting to ruin the holiday!

While I agree that the TV Special is superior I still like the Jim Carry version, yeah sure it has problems but I don’t mind some of the changes and additions it made plus Jim Carrey was great, as for the 2018 one yeah it isn’t very good, it’s not as terrible as you say it is but it’s very bland and forgettable.
Also I highly suggest for next year’s Halloween that you do a 3 way versus video on the Universal Mummy movies, (1933) vs (1999) vs (2017) or maybe The Wolf Man instead since there is a new one is coming out next year, (1941) vs (2010 directors cut) vs (2024).

My opinion, I can’t choose between any of them. I love all three of them equally. Except for that broadcasted musical version with Matthew Morrison, that one was a mistake.

The original 1966 version is my favorite, followed by the 2018 version. I absolutely hate the 2000 version because of all the adult innuendos, inappropriate jokes/scenes, and overall much darker tone. Then there's that depressing "Where Are You Christmas?" song. I do give props to Jim Carrey"s humorous acting, which does help to lighten the tone of the movie a lot, but even that can't save the film. A Christmas movie based on a kid's book should be filled with joy and love, not bullying, sadness, and adult references.
I honestly would say in my book, the 2000 version is the best. Don’t get me wrong, the original is a classic and the 2018 one is awful. But if you’re adapting something to be a movie, it must add something to pad out the runtime and in terms of padding, the 2000 one is superior. Once more, if you can rhyme through a whole movie, get the grinch’s motivations, Cindy’s purpose and have a backstory that can be followed, you have succeeded in adapting something into a full length movie. Copying and pasting the cartoon with no paddling for cinema would have just been a copy and paste. Thus in my book, 2000’s the best although I know what a treasure the animated special is
