Godzilla (2014) VS Godzilla King of the Monsters
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 чер 2024
- The first Godzilla released back in 2014. And even though there was a lot of people that liked it. There were a lot of people who were disappointed by it.
And Godzilla King of the Monsters aims to rectify a lot of the criticisms people had with the 2014 Godzilla.
Is the 2019 Godzilla King of the Monsters bad, is it superior to the 2014 Godzilla or is it an even bigger disappointment than the previous Godzilla film?

Godzilla 2014
Critics: Not enough Godzilla, good humans
Fans: Not bad
Godzilla 2
Critics: Too much monsters, bad humans
Fans: YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Wtf
Exactly! It's like the hell do you critics want! I mean would a romantic comedy between Godzilla and Mothra make them happy!
Exactly these mfs stay complaining.
You'll never see a critic that wont complain.
TheRivrPrncess we don’t watch Hollywood Godzilla films for the humans, we watch it for the kaiju and the fights
True I was so annoyed at that reaction that I yeeted my popcorn
I actually really liked Godzilla 2014. But I loved Godzilla King of the Monsters.
Same
Gabriel Gonzalez same
Me to

Finally, someone speaking my language.
Godzilla king of the monsters has fricking more expression than LION KING
Wtf
Yes a reptile that can make expressions but a lion can't.
Ironic because Lion King has more budget especially since it's Disney and yet the face expression wasn't well made.
And the monsters don’t even talk
I felt more emotion when Mothra died in KOTM than when Mufasa died in The Lion King Remake, and Mothra doesn't say a single word.
@@Skull1Hunter and mothra is a freaking moth who we shouldn't be sad about vs a one who we should really be sad about
Godzilla 2014: we have 3 monsters!
Godzilla: KOTM: that’s nice, but do you mind if we add like, 16?
Yea, and maybe add more screen time of behemoth so fans will like him more than some main characters for some reason?
There are only 4 titans that are main monster.
Glad you liked KOTM, I hate how critics are trashing it
Well the critics weren’t wrong about the lack of character development on the human characters. :/
@@a.jthomas6132 they were wrong on it having that much of a negative impact on the movie though, the film was fantastic regardless
I hate that too... it's bizarre to me how they could go to film this awe inspiring and entertaining and rate it so low...
I even made a whole video discussing this whole "Godzilla vs the Critics" phenomenon that we're seeing.
@@a.jthomas6132 Personally, I actually liked characters but that's just me, but critics are wrong about being too much monster action
Titanus_SebaRex they not true Godzilla fans no way, I watch a Godzilla movies to watch monsters fighting, if they want a soap opera, go watch the young and the restless
I liked the 2014 movie more than you did, but King of the Monsters was the far superior film.
2014 suck ass more humans and less Godzilla
The problem with the 2014 movie was that it was 3/4 human action that no one gave a shit about unlike and really no fighting the 2019 movie where you had to wait for the fights but when they got to it it was amazing and awesome and worth the wait
@Gerry Buckets that's your opinion...
As a movie Godzilla 2014 is better, as a godzilla movie kotm is abit better
Gerry Buckets no you just dumb, 2019 is the better film
I think that the 2014 film did better with scaling the monsters and making them look like giant creatures but 2019 had better action scenes
2014-best story
2019-best monsters
Thats all i saw
That's it playing it simply
yeah but overall KOTM is just better
that's exactly how I felt, with both movies
I can’t even agree with this. The story ended with Bryan Cranston’s death, which was only a third into the movie. After that it’s just Kick ass GI Joe playing with bombs. KOTM has a more solid story.
KOTM had more emotion when it comes to story line.
BOY, YOU REALLY DID NOT LIKE THE FIRST ONE. hahahahahaha
Did it not feel like a middle finger
Everytime it cut away from
Godzilla? In 2014
Jimmy Chen YES. YOUR RIGHT
MrEdium In The New Godzilla, There’s SO MUCH More Of The Monsters We Know And Love From The Original Films. And Seeing Them How Epic They Look With A Smooth Story, To Me It’s A Way Better Version Of The First one. I Still Think The First One Was Great. But It Doesn’t Live Up To The Expectations That Godzilla KOTM Had.
Jimmy Chen
Yeah, pretty much!
Aron 2018 Are You Talking About The 2014 Godzilla? Because If Your Talking About the 2019 Godzilla Movie There’s A Bunch Of Stuff Relating To Godzilla And The Other Monsters. It’s A Even Based Movie When Watching It Because There’s A Fair Share Amount Of Screen Time For The Monsters.
I liked the father in KotM the most actually. He knew his shit and took action.
Because he was an animal expert and since the monsters are basically wild animals, he would know what to do
I liked how they introduced King Ghidorah in the second film, being the strongest kaiju and a rival alpha to Godzilla
I wanna see gigan and mechagodzilla
i personaly really liked the first one. the mystery of godzilla being in the background, never knowing where he is and not knowing what he was doing. its alot more scary. And it builds lots of tension. but the new one is alot more like a godzilla film.
agreed
Yeah, a bad Godzilla film. The 2014 film was the best.
TheRivrPrncess you’re just dumb
TheRivrPrncess lol wut
That’s the one thing I missed from KoTM. The scene where Rodan and Ghidora are flying towards each other for the first time was super suspenseful and intense but besides that nothing really gave me that feeling the 2014 movie did. KoTM is obviously way better in every other conceivable way but I still like that about 2014
I think the Godzilla 1 didn't have a great start but king of monsters brought Godzilla better than he ever was.
The best way to watch godzilla is by watching its fight scene in UA-cam.
Me: Oh Dannggg.....
Justin Cheung
It’s true tho! And the video was only 8 minutes long if you wanted to see all the Godzilla scenes!
That’s a mere fraction of the movies runtime!
Justin Cheung yeah the fight scenes were build up throughout the entire movie so that when it happened it was fucking AWESOME. Vs in king of the monsters we got bits and pieces of fighting throughout the entire movie only to get a terrible fight at the end of the movie with godzilla just shooting a energy blast to take out king ghidorah I was so pissed. Only memorable thing in that fight is godzilla eating ghidorah and mothra fighting rodan which I wanted to see more of but then it cut to the sad fight between godzilla and ghidorah :(
Entertainment Godzilla vs Ghidorah was sad? Are you high?
Entertainment What??!!! The action scenes in KOTM were awesome and Godzilla killing Ghidorah was great.
I didn’t see the 2014 movie in the theatre, I saw it in my house when I was 7 years old and that movie made me become a G-fan and I’m a very proud one too. I did see the 2019 movie in the theatre but it was at a cinemark in XD and I loved it a lot better than the 2014 one
I strongly disagree on calling the MUTOs non-unique Cloverfield rip-offs, and the actors in King of the Monsters were fantastic in my opinion, especially Millie Bobby Brown and Ken Watanabe. But yes, King of the Monsters wins!
@Mista Guido Hello! xD
Kotm definitely wins, I agree, but I didn't think the human characters were well written and acted quite badly, but Ken Watenabe was much better in Kotm.
Don't forget about Vera Farmiga, cause she was one of the Best Actresses in the movie. She was just as Great as Ken Watanabe and Millie Bobby Brown..
17:30 godzilla destroys the bridge because he can't swim in that level of water, and he was going just straight to the MUTO, it was the equivalent of us stepping on an ant's nest or something
If he can't swim in that level, why is he doing it at the very end of the film?
michael dorsey exactly why not just go under water more so he doesn’t have to up

According to Rotten Tomatoes, ' too much monster fights, not enough human drama ', did you come to this movie for humans or monsters.
It’s cuz your standards are shit
@@ech78928 no you just have shitty opinions and bad taste
You've made so many good points about Godzilla (2014). However, the final score I feel was to low. There were very many good elements about Godzilla (2014) that you completely overlooked.
Yes! Godzilla 2014 was supposed to be all about the build because it was that universe's (and audiences') introduction to modern Kaiju. G2014 was exactly what it needed to be and without it we obviously would never have gotten KOTM.
@@racenturtlez finally someone gets it
Switch Board the build to the mutos was also actually cool
The horror element was also something super amazing, the new one didn't have any of that, and the characters in the new one felt so bland.
@Ian_Choi 20261121 But by that reasoning Jurassic Park (The first one) was a let down because the T Rex on the posters only gets one extended scene. He basically only pops his head out for three cameos for the rest of the movie.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters really fixed all the criticism that the first one got and I really appreciated it and I love how the monsters are very memorable and have personalities unlike Godzilla 2014 where the monsters let alone the characters have anything.
Markzilla I subbed
But the characters in KOTM suck ass too
and the villains in king of the monsters had motives and gave a good reason to unleash the monsters
Markzilla amazing how the critics want the exact opposite now gg mike u did it, a perfect godzilla movie
@Nicolaj Vangsgaard, well atleast they aren’t boring and the main lead character actually did something like him having knowledge of animals and it contributed to the movie unlike the main lead on Godzilla 2014 where he is established to defuse bombs but didn’t.
2014 had more of a horror element to it. Mostly showing the destruction, and aftermath of the damage these monsters cause, and are mostly focusing on the perspective of Humans.
Meanwhile
2019 has more of a action element to it, while also taking into the beauty of the monsters (mostly Mothra, and Godzilla), while also having this chaotic element with some of the monsters (Mostly Ghidorah, and Rodan). While also mostly focusing on the perspective of the Monsters instead of the Humans.
Also Boston gets leveled by a Super Godzilla Bomb, and San Francisco doesn’t.
*(Forgot to mention that part.)*
Eh, Boston gets away unscathed in too many movies. Give San Francisco a break.
Jared Bradley glad it didn’t go unscathed. Comes to show we also got a bit more destruction in this one
Gareth Edwards treats the Titans like monsters.
Michael Dougherty treats the Titans like Gods.

Honestly, I thought the first film had boring characters, and I thought the cinematography by Seamus McGarvey was too dark in places. Now King of the Monsters, I thought had more colour to it, and the characters were at least better performed.
@@masterpenguin8472 My opinions exactly , Godzilla King of monsters is a way better film.
No. Music was better in 2014. KOTM only had 2 good soundtracks. The new Godzilla Blue Oyster cult redo is awful.
Godzilla King of the Monsters is better but Godzilla 2014 was still amazing
Yeah, I agree. 2014 was actually my favorite Godzilla movie up until KOTM came out.
I agree with this sentiment exactly. I love 2014. Hell my 4 year old wanted to watch it during his birthday party yesterday. I think the movie has some appeal. It too was and still is one of my faves. Only ranking below Shin and GMK if I'm being honest.
Jared Jimenez I agree.

Yes yes yes, agreed!
Godzilla 2014 getting a 2/10 is still better than Captain Marvel LOL

godzilla based vids and ppl still hate cpt marvel
Of course it's better. It's Godzilla.
flamerunner runs flames a badass. I mean like the movie was ok. The script was pretty bad to honest. There were hardly any jokes. And when we come to see a awesome final battle. I’d say captain marvel has the most disappointing ending fight. We hardly get to see use her powers. I’ll some credit to the movie tho. Some of the cgi shit looked pretty good and the rest of the cgi was decent, but there was hardly any cgi in this movie. I get cgi is hard to make but I’ve seen movies that have better Cgi but have a lower budget. I’d say the comic is still better.
Godzilla 2019 was awesome Godzilla 2014 was good but pretty disappointing

But RT doesn't review films, do they? They only collect all the critical reviews online.
RT have a messed up reviewing system. There are only 2 different ‘scores’. Rotten, and Fresh. In my opinion, IMDB is a lot better, but I can’t tell you what to do. I personally don’t like RT.

I fully agree with pretty much everything you said here. I did enjoy Godzilla 2014 when I saw it in cinemas but on reflection I do believe I overhyped it a lot at the time, and I've never had the urge to watch it again. But I absolutely loved King of the Monsters and would happily watch it again. To me this was the perfect blockbuster Godzilla movie, as it was well crafted, had a serviceable script and characters and paid respect to it's roots whilst being it's own film. As a semi fan of the original series, this was a real love letter. Michael Dougherty is also a severely underrated director, I've found all of his films so far to be really good. It's a real shame that KotM isn't doing well at the box office, I really hope it doesn't have any huge negative effects on the upcoming Monsterverse films.

Wasn't a fan of Godzilla before, now I'm MORE hyped for Godzilla vs king Kong
However the fight scenes could be more raw and honestly I'm tired of seeing some type of military in these movies, it's gotten stale and is kinda unnecessary overall 7/10
Unnecessary the military is always in GODZILLA movie without the military it can't be called a GODZILLA movie. 10/10 for me.
The only Godzilla movie that did the military and army aspect right for me was shin Godzilla, and that movie really adds horror and ever looming dread of what Godzilla is gonna do next until we stop him?
Spacegodzilla Robert Anderson not really, they just added a bunch of freezing agents to the maser cannons, but I can agree with the horror aspect.
The title should be changed to: Why Godzilla: King of the Monsters is better than Godzilla (2014) in every way
Only thing that brought godzilla King of the monsters to a winning stage is that *Mike Dougherty is a Godzilla fan* . He's passionate, that's it!

G98 is more entertainment, have a better soundtrack, the interesting characters don't get killed off at the beginning of the movie, there's better action... as a Kaiju movie, I think 98 is superior... as a Kaiju movie, not as a Godzilla movie, of course.
But that's just my opinion, and I'm sure someone thinks the exact opposite of what I just said, and that's alright.
@@zeoxdragon "Better actionn superior Kaiju movie?" Not even close you need to watch Kaiju films because 2014 did a better job representing a Kaiju movie than 98 did. The real Kaiju films don't have monsters running away from military and getting killed by basic missiles and an extra is giant monster fighting. 98 is not a good kaiju film when compared to Japanese made flicks atleast 2014 was aware of the appeal.
since you are going to watch Godzilla king of the Monsters on a projector, are you going to watch Avengers endgame on a projector as well?
Yes I will be. But it's not essential. Whereas Godzilla and Aquaman have SEVERAL big visual set pieces that you can enjoy on the projector. Avengers Endgame just has the one scene in the climax. Everything else in the movie can be seen on a normal television screen.

To be fair, I actually liked Mark Russel's character arc, going from hating Godzilla and wanting him dead to recognizing his importance to the overall survival of the world. There have been at least five Godzilla movies with a character who has a "Godzilla killed someone I loved and now I want revenge" shtick now, and Russel was the only one of those I liked.

Even as a hard core Godzilla fan, I've been sick of hearing people making excuses for the poor direction in 2014 for years, yes, that film had some genuinely amazing moments and I respect how it helped kick in this new age of kaiju cinema, but overall it was a disappointing mess of wasted potential...
Godzilla King of the Monsters in my mind is everything 2014 wasn't, should have been, and far far more !
It exceeded my expectations by allot !
It is genuinely entertaining, super well paced and awe inspiring through out it's entirety.
The monsters are true to the originals, and are so captivating to watch and full of personality. I love it !
Even though I'm not a fan of the 2014 one, I will give it one point over your rating and give it a 3-4/10 , as I admire it for at least trying to do something differently, even though it failed (plus every scene with Brian Cranston was gold)...
I'm also giving King of the Monsters higher rating by one point than you, just because that film brought so much joy to my life, and the fan base in general, I'm giving it at a strong 9/10
( I'd only really disagree with you about some of the characters in King of the Monsters I think they all genuinely did great, especially Ken, and King of the Monsters was far more stunning then Aquaman...)

But they kept cutting away, like holy crap
I understand so much of where you are coming from I was one of those people who was upset with the 2014 Godzilla, I was at the break of tear when I barely saw Godzilla, I grew up around Godzilla I always love seeing Godzilla just beat the crap out of monsters like The Movie Godzilla war, when he had to fight every monster, but I’m happy to see that the new Godzilla movie is way better then the first one
I’m glad I’m not the only one who misses the old school Godzilla movie and want to see more of Godzilla
When i saw king ghidorah and rodan and mothra was gonna be in it I thought that rodan and mothra had to team up with godzilla because of how powerful ghidorah looked like
Your videos are like works of art. Well done
No one has ever put it like that before. Thanks. :)
Godzilla 2014: atmospheric, aesthetic
Godzilla KOTM: entertainment, artistic
I think the reason 2014 was so dark was because it was meant to be dark and gritty. But me personally like Kotm better simply because of the pacing and there was more monsters.
Surprisingly though, the pacing for Godzilla Kotm was one of the many things that was criticised.
Rotten Tomatoes: i dONT lIkE MOnsTeR fIGHtS
Legendary: Then why did you ask for it?
Rotten Tomatoes: *Uhm UHM!!! g u a c a m o l e n i g g a p e n i s*
1998 - The betrayal
2014 - The apology
2019 - The redemption
you are absolutely right with the analysis , it took 59 min in GZ 2014 to see him for the first time and most of them was very dark .
In my opinion I think Godzilla 2 wins because there’s more monsters fighting and destruction
So basically the point of this whole video is to shit on 2014
But that's OK, everyone's allowed to have their own opinion
Personally, I loved both movies
I love all the Monsterverse movie so far, this would be my list of them from best to not so best.
1. Godzilla King of the Monsters
2. Kong Skull Island
3. Godzilla (2014)
Though I'd say for Godzilla 2 and KSI they switch in my opinion, so they're things in Godzilla 2 I like more in KSI but KSI also has things I like more in Godzilla 2
@@treyrex5987 yeah, but I never really saw the flaws in the movie until I re-watched it in 2016 (from 2016 and onwards, I gained the ability to distinguish a good movie from a bad movie)
But even then, I still love it
(Godzilla 2 is my favourite)
@UCcfVJdbgL7q8zXjqTZAK1-g I mean I didn't say I hate 2014 I still love it, it's just that Kong and Godzilla 2 for me had improvements over 2014. I do agree with you though.
@@treyrex5987 yeah, I agree
Kong Skull Island and Godzilla 2 were very entertaining (especially Godzilla 2)
Godzilla 2014 left me really board sometimes, and was frustrating when they kept cutting off the action after 3 seconds of seeing Godzilla
But I still loved the movie none the less
@@spartansc6859 same bro same, I'd always have to skip through the human stuff in order to get to Godzilla and Mutos fighting
King Of The Monsters has become my personal favorite movie of all time, being basically everything I could ask for in a movie. Throw in my nostalgia and personal connections towards Godzilla as well as KOTM as a movie, and, for me, it becomes my favorite movie ever.
Really good review 👍
i agree with everything you said in kotm except for ken watanabe, to me at least, he was phenomenal. hes a great actor and shows it in this film, and his sacrifice hit extremely hard. not only was everyone’s reactions to it well done, but his final words hit me hard and i really hope his character lives on in dialogue and spirit as this series continues
The 98 movie is way more entertaining than the 2014 one. 98 is actually a really fun monster film, just not a good GODzilla film.
To be honest, I was fairly entertained by 2014 when it first came out, mostly because it felt like I was actually seeing Godzilla for real. In hindsight, the movie doesn't hold up as well as I remember it, but I'll never forget that feeling I got when Godzilla first made his entrance in Honolulu. It was like seeing a legend materialize into reality.
Dark Woods 98 feels more like a Michael Bay flick thank a Kaiju movie atleast 2014 brought out all the basics a giant monster film needs such as fighting other monster. I don't find a giant lizard running entertaining.
G'14 had Godzilla in it while "Godzilla" 1998 had annorexic iguana.
Yeah I was more entertained by 98 then 2014 but 2019 beats both of them
From what I read on Wikipedia about KOTM, the reviews are mixed due to the critics criticising the pacing, story, tone and human characters, but praising everything else as this movie should be a masterpiece of a Godzilla movie.
Yup kotm is a better godzilla movie
i like this video, you got yourself a subscriber !
I'm a new subscriber because of this one video, and I would love an entire video of you talking about the Kaiju in Godzilla: King of The Monsters
By the way, are you a Showa or Heisei fan?
I'm glad you liked the video buddy. :) I hope you enjoy my previous and future content.
@@EricCarter12 of course I will! So what do you think the villain of Godzilla Vs. Kong might be? Just curious
