    Remember watching this episode with my sister. I was in 8th grade she a few years older. We disagreed on which was the best BeeGees song in the medley - i said Massachusetts, she said Lonely Days. Mom settled it with How Can You Mend a Broken Heart. Mom's gone now, and sister and I both old as dirt, but still love this music. I think Mom probably was right, as usual...

      Actually, this was at a very low point in their careers when they just could not chart. This lasted for a couple years until their phenomonal success with Saturday Night Fever and dance music.

    • @BassByTheBay
      @BassByTheBay 5 місяців тому +2

      @@Pamsmith59Yes, it was a low point, but their resurgence came before SNF - they had huge success with the Main Course album. "Jive Talkin'" was a #1 US hit, and "Nights on Broadway" and "Fanny" were also big hits. And the hits continued with their next album including "You Should Be Dancing" and "Love So Right".
      SNF was such an insanely massive success, it tends to eclipse the success that immediately preceded it.

    At the end of the show when the BG's sat down and did their acoustic medley they totally owned the show. Absolutely chris Kroll, great take on the legendary rock/ pop trio-- I very much appreciate great vocals, especially sung in either Trio or Quartet format. At that time I was primarily a heavy metal fan, but groups like The Bee Gees, Linda Ronstadt, The Beach Boys and others, won me over---also can't forget 2 include Simon and Garfunkel and naturally Lennon and McCartney

    • @BassByTheBay
      @BassByTheBay 5 місяців тому +1

      I may be one of the even fewer people who love their pre-disco, post-disco, AND their disco catalog. Some of my earliest musical memories are hearing their hits in the car with my mom. First song of theirs I recall hearing was "How Can You Mend".
      Some people think they were just a disco band, but people in this thread know the Bee Gees' career started before the word "disco" even existed. I was too young to be aware of their 60's hits, but I liked all of their '70s hits, and that includes when they embraced dance music on Main Course. But whether it was dance hits like "Jive Talkin'" and "Nights on Broadway" or ballads like "Fanny", it all sounded great to me.
      And, yes, I _loved_ Saturday Night Fever. 😊 Their songwriting skills _always_ shined through regardless of the style. IMO, "How Deep Is Your Love" is one of the best songs of all time.
      And then there's all the songs they wrote for other artists. Their songwriting skill is what gave them such a lengthy career. It has always disappointed me that the massive success of SNF made the casual listening public dismiss them as the standard bearers of disco because 1) disco isn't inherently bad, and 2) they obviously wrote so much more than their string of SNF hits.

    Stop it! I am running out of adjectives to express myself about how great these shows are! The voices of the Gibbs are magical; they make it seem effortless, but how many hours these brothers must have spent on their craft! Gladys gives me chills singing ‘Neither One of Us’; Jerry Lee still having a chip on his shoulder and Fire in his fingers. Wayne Cochran’s hair was a National monument. I forget how many times I played ‘Stir It Up’ 45 on my portable record player, or how many time I find myself singing ‘End of the World’ while alone in my car, when I think of younger days when living for my life…Wow it all ties together. And Fred from Scooby-Doo too! Bless you all!

    The Midnight Special like Hit Radio of the 60s and 70s, was a place for all kinds of music from Pop to R & B to Rock to Country even including songs from yesteryear. Loved hearing artists singing their hits while the songs were still fresh and their voices were still young. It was unfortunate that no microphone was picking up Jerry Lee Lewis' piano.

      I legit have a theory Robin might’ve been on the spectrum, and maybe Maurice too? With Robin he was always shy shy/vulnerable one, guess he was kinda closed off emotionally and took a while to really get to know him in life, and I just notice when he performs live there something kinda awkward with how he carries himself (which i find super cute and relatable since I’m on the spectrum myself). And with Maurice, he always had to have best/newest thing tech wise and was super adept at learning them really fast, instruments too! Plus the fact his daughter Samantha is actually diagnosed as autistic kinda strengthens that idea further to me lmao

    • @Pamsmith59
      @Pamsmith59 Рік тому

      Interesting speculation. I've wondered if Robin had Ehlers Danlos Syndrome because of his body/joint/hand movements. I find Robin to have been highly intelligent. That sense of humor of his was killer! Didn't know that about Samantha. @@zacharyantle7940
