    Great vid, I have a 100 watt Bloomfield drive head and I gotta say it's just about the most inspiring amp ever!

    John doing the head side waggle groove. Nice clean scratchin single note rhythm. Great to see you having fun on the gig. The 2 rock has a bit of the metallic chimey clean like some bad cat, and some matchless.

    60% of the fidelity is the speaker. Your EV 12 does a totally different thing than Robben's 12-65. There is a Nashville studio musician that has a sound proof room full of speakers in a circle with a mike that robotically can be moved to a speaker cab of choice. the are wired to different amps at his console. He tried using one head into each cabinet. and the amp sounded different with each speaker configuration. If you use an Eminence 12 200 watt instead of your EV 12 your amp will sound totally different. 60% of the fidelity. I discovered this in the 1960s. This forum is wonderful. You do a great service to young musicians (save them a fortune). Thank You.

    I’m have a Studio Signature head and absolutely love it. Plenty loud for any live scenario, and the three eq switches really allow for lots of variation, I.e. fitting in where you need to be regarding other instrumentation. And it’s a dream from a recording angle as well because it can have so many easily accessible tones on the fly.

    I'd say that this Two Rock in particular has the most extensive EQ setup there is, and if any one amp can cover a wide range of music spanning five decades, I'd say it would be this one. The only downside being that it needs to be tweaked between the songs.

    +1 for the Matchless Lightning as an amp that provides beautiful cleans while taking drive pedals well! And does so at useful, gig-able volumes.

    Hey John, I have a CRS & a Lonestar… love them for their own unique take on a similar tone… I’ve been running the mids down on the CRS say 10~11 o’clock and flicking the mids switch on and off to taste and to suit with good results… the Lonestar I’ve been using Chanel 2 with the drive engaged but set at about 9o’clock with great results also…

    This is the first reality of owning a Two Rock rather than just gushing over it. Yes, it sounds great. But, as you said, it's so thick in the midrange that it sticks out in the mix of a multi-instrument band and you could hear that in your clips. It's a tool and it has its place like any other amp. If you think about it, it's like a Fender with a Tubescreamer always on with the mid eq shifted a bit. I'm sure you could slap an eq pedal on your board to cut the mids when you needed to. Great video and playing as always!!!

    These are really interesting points you make here. Especially from such a desirable amp. I have a orange or50 which I absolutely love. Its has a massive lower mid sound, playing in a three piece band it sounds brilliant. But when I play with another guitarist the sound gets kind of lost. In the 4 piece I use an ad30 and this cuts brilliantly.. just has that higher frequency punch. Love your videos.. fantastic sauce of information.

    I use a Two Rock in a function band and can get any tone I need from ultra clean to heavy. The amount of tonal options on these amps are extensive and if you need a scooped sound it is very easy to get

    I really like the digital world, but I don't stop playing a valve amplified every day. Lately I discovered a pre valve amplifiers that are driving me crazy, peace hill fx.... I highly recommend it

    I sold my CRS 100/50, found it to be too congested even using my variac, which helped but ultimately bought a Two Rock TS1 100/50 and it’s been leaps and bounds a better amp, more relaxed and open cleans and so much better crunch.

    Two Rocks are beutiful. Amplified nation is wonderful. There are a bunch of amp makers around Nashville that make amps that hold their own for half the price (almost). I have heard Larry and Robben through new Deluxe amps and for some reason they still sounded like Larry and Robben. I heard Allan Holdsworth in a bar 40+ years ago and for some reason through the cheaper amps on you list he sounded like Holdsworth. Hmmm? I don't get it. Hmmm? Do you?

    Mezzabarba z18. Only 20 watts but sounds like a big amp, with lots of headroom and as much clean stage volume as you could want.

    I still think the Suhr Bella is the best amp at $2000 to $2500. The Suhr is a D-like with a ton of features and one is in at $3000 US for the head. I’ve several options these days. Probably #1 is refurbishing my current amp or a used Deluxe and have them also refurbishing it for quite/dependably. My rationale is to spend $5000 I would have the keep it as a main amp for 15 yrs with an HX Stomp / Duncan SS power amp as a backup.😊

    If "mid-heavy" for some tunes, seems like an ideal moment for a GE-7 (or does your stomp thing have an eq "pedal"?). Would seem pretty easy ... so I must be missing something! :)

    I know here in the US in the NYC circuit fender amps seem to be standard. Especially the hot rod deluxe (awful). Things seem to be leaning towards the direct route which i'm quite happy about being a QC/helix guy. I know a few guys on the scene have two rocks but they say it doesn't work too well it that context, it's an at home amp for them

    • @adamgray8009
      @adamgray8009 7 місяців тому

      Agreed. The HR Deluxe is awful, lol. Sounds just OK AND they all overheat and burn out their low voltage bus at some point. Poor design by Fender and they never change it!

    What some anti amp snobs forget is a bad amp will make a great guitar sound bad. A good or great amp will make a fender Mexican strat sound really good. Try it

    I would pay for an Amplified Nation amp, if I ever can. That is my aspirational amp. Other than that, there's no gig I can't do well with my Katana 2x12

    Engage an EQ block in the stomp to get a less mid focused sound when you need it?

    I think my favourite gigging amplifier is the Mesa boogie lonestar special with the EL 84 valves. We have a few of them on the ship I work on, and they are truly incredible sounding amplifiers.

  • @Ganache30
    @Ganache30 5 місяців тому

    I sold mine. Although the master is great, it has to be played loud and moving air to sound its best. It’s too strident when you dig in at low volume - just not enough compression to sound nice and spongy. Maybe the TC is better?

  • @Cambodia69
    @Cambodia69 Місяць тому

    If those live recordings were anywhere near an accurate representation of the actual sound, then I'd agree that it's overpowering the rest of your bandmates -- and maybe cutting the heads off of your audience. Obviously with such tweak-ability available, surely you can dial in a more appropriate tone that balances better with the rest of your bandmates. That said, considering the price, weight, and risks involved with gigging such a beast, it's a bit overkill. It's akin to buying an exotic supercar... only to be relegated to sharing the road with the rest of us on our daily commutes. I can understand why they cost as much as they do, it's likely justified; however, it's definitely not priced for most pro musicians.

    Too heavy and too expensive for me. To be honest the low mids seem too dominant for a mix or band but I’m sure some experimenting might resolve that. I’ll stick to my Katana (I know, heretic, burn him!).

    standing over the top of the amp like you were, without it tilted back, would make it sound too woolie/bassie for me, and hard to hear.

  • @antoonhermans8953

    Yeah well , its probably nice to own handbuild tube amps and custom shop guitars , but ..... there bloody expensive and for an amateur doing pubgigs an amp like an fender tonemaster dr is way more practical ( and it also sounds great ) , so i guess as always its about the money / budget , i know i would not feel comfortable gigging with expensive gear , there's always some guy who is totally pissed /drunk who can destroy you're precious gear or some f.cking wanker trying to steal it , these expensive toys are more for the pro players who play big stages and do not have to worry about anything while gigging , at least imo .

    Cheap, light blank canvas style amps that take pedals well are the best for working musicians in cover/function bands. A TwoRock is a silly idea.

    John never seems to make up his mind on anything and his playing intro's in these videos seem not like anything he plays live. Well you have to make a living but I think I would get really tired of doing that. Still his thoughts on this stuff is interesting and sometimes engaging.
