That computer got “stuck” when you re flashed it, it in stuck it. Or the original flash file was not fully flashed in the module. I’ve seen that before. At least on Chrysler’s. I’m a Chrysler dealer tech. Good video man
As you get more experience in the new shop with this DVI system it would be interesting to hear if the customers are receptive to the amount of details you provide. In my limited experience, some customers just don't care. But I definitely see the benefit for techs. Keeping records on customer cars is great and protects you and the shop. We're doing good. I'm in the house anyway for this stupid knee replacement so I'm just hanging out. I miss working the shop though. :)
Happy your doing good buddy! This software is nice but I also see your point, so far most customers really appreciate the service since it’s not something they have seen before, but I also know we won’t be able to please everyone.
Now these are great so see. Great logit on diagnosis and tips on how to do repairs. I think your onto something with this format of video. Good job live it my friend. STAY SAFE . STAY WELL.
It's great but not. It does comfort the customer, well some customers that have a clue on what there looking at. I seen shops show customers a part they replaced that isn't even on there car. It protects the shop and tech in a lot of case. The thing I have a issue with is time. Every extra step is time and cost. I don't care if it's a extra 20 mins it's time in a industry that needs time. It's a great ideal if if your paid buy the hr and if so I bet the customer is paying for that. I would like to know how your shop charges for that. It seems like a good ideal but if you own a 7 bay shop with the latest stuff out your over head is all ready high (so cost are high). For instance I was out of town and my shop was closed for 2 days. A good customer of mine had no choice but to go to a big shop up the street. He frist went to autozone just to see the code because it had a light on and a bad shake feel (his words). When he took his car in he explained "I think my number 3 coil is bad because my car did the same thing with same symptoms last year with coil 2. I'm not a tech but just throwing it out there. The code was miss fire on number 3". He was at there shop for 45mins. His bill was around 395$. They charged him 125$ to scan the car 100$ to diagnose it and 70$ for coil 60$ to replace it. To me that's crazy.for a coil on a 2009 Ridgeland that every thing is in the open and accessible. I understand over head but if it's all ready that high you need to charge those prices how do you add more to the bill when it's all ready outrages. Just my thoughts but other then time it seems like a awesome ideal.
I absolutely agree with you this system does take time. Only time a vehicle is getting a “full” inspection, is on lof’s for example, but us as technicians get .25 for the inspection plus the labor time to perform the lof. Every vehicle does get fluids and tires checked with the dvi, which is only maybe 2-4 minutes for that inspection, and for those we don’t get paid for. That’s unfortunate about your customer and to be charging like that seems to only be gouging the customers wallet. I do know as a flat rate tech that time is money and I’m all about making the money and with this system it’s brought our average dollar per car up 2.5 times where it was without it, so that being said larger priced tickets are getting sold easier then before having the dvi. Customers may not be knowing what they are looking at but it does help build confidence that the shop is being transparent, which in turn helps the customers feel better about pricing or higher dollar invoices.
Every vehicle starts out at level 1 (one hour) then moves to level 2 and so it on. If there is multiple codes from multiple issues then it’s going to require different levels of what the customer will be getting charged
Not sure how often it happens or it does. I went to a class for reflashing and the instructor said that manufactures will sometimes tweak software without putting out a new celebration number.
@@codysautodiagnosticsprogra8706 so do y'all have a set diagnostic price and time limit or just a diagnostic price no matter the time? Because like you say not all shops are the same
Shaun Adams that’s a good question, we have different levels of diagnostics, starts at level 1 and goes up from there. If we are not able to figure it out in less then an hour it gets moved to a level 2 and so on.
@@codysautodiagnosticsprogra8706 cool so you are always in contact with the customer, but that is where it gets tough because many customers feel like it should be figured out in the time it takes to pull codes. Has the DVI helped in customer understanding
Cool video! I liked mostly that APP sensor PID that intentionally went down to 0, crap man that would have lead me off, great to keep in mind!!! Thanks Cody!
I don't want to sound disrespectful but isn't DVI ( not our sentence but irrelevant ) a thing you do already since diagnostics and the little digital camera's came out ? We do it for brake pads , rotors , suspension , faultcodes ect . We record everything . Mostly for our own benefit but we give it to the customer also . I am 49 now and I have been doing this DVI since 1996 . And yes , it's a good system . At least for us it is
Yes that’s exactly what a dvi is, only difference is this is all loaded into a software program and sent to the customer so they can view the photos and inspection on their smart devices
@@codysautodiagnosticsprogra8706 I understand it . We just take fault code screenshots and film ( now telephone ) the other things that need to be replaced and send it to the customer .
Been doing that for years, even went out and made my own Software to store Information pertaining to the customers Vehicles. I have been getting very positive reactions when I "show & tell" with the customer. As wyattoneable said, some just don't care, however, most seem to appreciate that I take just a little time to explain and show. Now my Software is not categorized I just have 2 sections one for Pictures of the Automobile before I work on it and Scan and Scope Data.
Wondering if you’ve seen this issue before 2008 Silverado 5.3 liter cylinder deactivation. Misfiring are idle on cyl 1 4 6 7. Pulled valve covers all lifters look to be moving none collapsed. Go into cylinder deactivation data and notice the commanded state of solenoids are off like it’s supposed to be but all the circuit pids say fault like opens and shorts. It’s an auction truck from the used car guy. It almost looks electrical than mechanical.
Great video! I’ve programmed several Gm vehicles with the same calibration before to fix various issues. If I remember correctly they were all entertainment and hvac related problems.
That’s good to know on gm. I noticed on tis that they’re are times on newer gm vehicles that they don’t even give the option to program with the same part number anymore. Not sure how that is going to work for times like this, may have to call acdelco and have them release the calibration file threw vci option instead? Have you noticed this on some gm vehicles in tis?
Cody’s Auto Diagnostics Well that sucks. It’s probably been at least a year since I’ve done this but the last time I tried I was able to push past the warning of GM Doesn’t recommend programming with the same part number. Knowing that it fixed my problem several times in the past I don’t know what I’d do if this isn’t a option
I tried flashing a 2015 Chevy Trax for a p0420 update customer complaint. Before installing a new converter. But it wouldn’t let me everytime I’d click on ecm it’d communicate then error message say no files on ecm reprogram not possible. Finally got it to work by selecting gm (Korea) at the beginning of the process all went good. Then later I googled about Trax and it’s made in korea and China 😂
Prescan. Document all data and photos. Post scan and all document repairs and photos again. Good for you but customers love to see the time put into it and their money being well spent and has improved my business. Keep the videos coming.
Great video but could you kill the background music? It's distracting.
Thanks for the info, was playing around with the music so I’ll keep that in mind next time. 👍

I’m assuming the pcm file was corrupted originally or original owner had some kind of tune installed. That truck drove me crazy 😂
Cody’s Auto Diagnostics yea I had a similar case. Re flash fixed it.
Justin Hayward that’s crazy man. Haven’t run into that one before with the same flash file

That's definitely a great way to document. It's 100% a great way to show you are doing what they are paying you for!

Wonder if you reset memory on the oxygen sensor issue it would of fixed it. Think it’s called reset adaptive memory in functional test
I did all the resets first before attempting the flash. I even did a hard reset with the battery cables for 30 minutes and still acted the same
Yep I got bit the first time I saw a vehicle that had the APP 2 drop out. But its burned into my brain after making that mistake.
It’s burned a lot of guys including myself buddy
Very nice info. Work as a fleet tech and maybe we could use the DVI in some form. Keep up the great work 👍
Thank you!

gooooood
I wonder if dropping battery voltage could have caused the corruption in the file on that Dodge
I really wish I knew, but that’s definitely a possibility

Maybe I’ll check those pids out make sure wires aren’t shorted on the block or something. And see where it goes
