Tracking And Documenting Vehicles Being Mobile

  • In this video I show how I document my process on vehicles I am working on while being mobile. Using the Microsoft OneNote program lets me keep all my wiring diagrams and service information all on one page. Using this program keeps me from needing to print up information I may need while out on the road. Another added perk to OneNote is being able to share your pages with customers/shops to show value of your services, this also is good at CYA (cover your ass) for future issues. I was turned onto the Microsoft Whiteboard from Mike Becker at Go Tech youtube channel. There are other programs that are similar to OneNote or the whiteboard, I encourage anyone that doesn't want to print up all their documents to give this program a shot.

    Cody I’m very much like you. I’m older than you but I personally like everything layer out in front of me. I have a difficult time bouncing back and forth from. It gets to overwhelming and being on the road much harder. I give you a lot of credit for tackling this new endeavor. It will eventually all come together once you become more familiar with the system you set up 😊 Artie

      I agree Artie... but Cody's problem solving with the white board was an EXCELLENT idea. I always have written books where I jot my notes & process, draw things out but his storing of pics, diagrams, etc is an awesome idea. I was always afraid of losing info if my electronics were to fail, but that setup should be backed by the cloud, and accessible on any PC or laptop. Top notch. The idea of having schematics there too is nice. I would go out of my way to print in the beginning of the day and have them physically.... but time is money, like he said.

    How was just recommended your channel excellent contact I’ve been a mobile technician for 27 years. I went paper less 12 + years ago. Picked it up from big corporations like insurance companies who went paperless.
    Good content keep up the work 👍
    More young Techs need this information and learn how to run businesses instead of just turning a wrench so they can take care of themselves.

    Great tip Cody! I hate reading diagrams on a screen so I usually print them out. However nowadays it can end up dozens of pages. I am going to have to evolve and use an app like this.

    Dude! I love this! I have been looking for a way to keep track of my diagnostics so I can look back over them and also see how/where I could have been more efficient. I’m definitely going to give this a try. I appreciate you putting this out here for us!

    I just started using MS OneNote myself. I use my iPhone during the day, then it syncs with my laptops.
    I also have an old iPhone 6s Plus that doesn’t have a sim card in it but the WiFi still works, so I use it for pictures and videos, wiring schematics out in the field. Keeps me from breaking my new iPhone. Then I sync it over a hotspot later.
    Thx again for the pulse sensors I use them just about every day

    Awesome video thank you just one quick question is Ford the only one that calls it a PMI or do other manufacturers use the term PMI for the programmable module installation

    • @codysautodiagnosticsprogra8706
      @codysautodiagnosticsprogra8706  3 роки тому

      Pmi stands for programmable module installation. As built data is the options each specific vehicle has. I did not have to download the as built data for this vehicle since I was able to communicate with the original module, the ids pulled all of the info out of the original module and transferred it over to the “new/user” module. If I was not able to communicate with the original module then I would need to load the as built data so it’s loaded with the proper options. Hope this helps

    • @joshclark6101
      @joshclark6101 3 роки тому

      @@codysautodiagnosticsprogra8706 yes that helps a lot one other quick question? So since you're able to communicate with the old module you pulled as built data out of it, through the PMI process correct? You also said that the VIN was swapped in to new module by the old shop. if the old shop didn't do the VIN swap already would that be a separate process from the PMI. Or does that PMI swap the VIN automatically while you're doing the PMI. and if you have to get the as built data is that when you would go to the factory website to get the asbuilt files and do a download that way through like a pass-through device. hey thanks again sorry I'm just really trying to understand this been following all you guys for a long time

    Hi Cody, great video, thanks for sharing this information. What made you decide to use a MS Surface Pad 7, did you ever consider using an iPad Pro?
    How long did it take you to learn One Note? Are there any videos or tutorials for One Note? Is there anything about One Note you do not like?

  • @joshclark6101
    @joshclark6101 3 роки тому

    in his 1 notes program on the Ford escape. Does anybody know what the as built data is and why he said he didn't have to download it and that must be different than the programmable module installation, I'm taking it or the VIN swap. Sorry just not quite exactly sure what all the the differences between the three are.

    Great video I have a question what are you using for your invoicing software?

  • @duanedonaldson2262

    I have something very similar using NOTION (borrowed from a recipe database) to create a library of auto repairs while consolidating all possibilities for a specific vehicle with similar problems with differing repairs so more data is available in one location for a given problem with a more broad diagnosis such as Chrysler with wipers on with key off, how many ways can this be diagnosed and repaired while being a little more vehicle-specific of course. Notion is no longer free after a certain number of entries so I am currently developing a UA-cam Clone to handle each repair where all the thumbnails we see down the right-hand side (RHS) will be the same pics as you have and all the comments and replies (for updates that would be commented out of order) under the main video/PIC will be the comments for each of the RHS pics in order. The description of the video/PIC fault, diagnosis, and repairs in a summary containing the keywords needed for a search to pinpoint the Quick Diagnosis/Fix Database for this vehicle.
