    What kind of mechanic were you? I think you mentioned before something about the military in a past vid. But I can't remember for sure if you did or what you said that has me thinking military. But it is obvious to me you have been a mechanic of some sort. You are very good at problem-solving when it comes to mechanical stuff. You think like my uncle that taught me to work on engines and cars in general, then when I was 20 or 21 he got me a job working on heavy equipment. (Like the Uke dump trucks, huge loaders, draglines and shovels, all used in surface coal mining and the like). Anyway I always enjoy seeing the solutions you come up with.

      Hi there, thank you very much. :-) My Dad was a fixer of everything and anything when I was a kid, so that set me up for life... I joined the Royal Air Force when I was 17 and completed an engineering apprenticeship to become a mechanical technician on aircraft. I worked on helicopters and fast jets for 7.5 years in the R.A.F. and then started working offshore (Platforms and ships) on underwater robots, where as well as continuing to work on mechanical and hydraulic systems, I also learnt about working on electrical and electronic systems and fibre optics. Looking back it's been the perfect preparation for life as a boat owner!.. 😂 I'm sure working on the coal-mining equipment was very interesting and I can imagine that often there was off-the-cuff problem solving involved to make repairs... Fair winds, Chris 👍

    Does Emma ever wake up unhappy? While I'm amazed by your DIY ingenuity (that trick with the upside-down air can was cool--and I'll take the pun), I'm even more amazed with Emma's pleasant disposition. She makes me smile every time you go to get her up (and when we see how her whole being brightens up when either of her parents come into view). Keep up the good work.

      Hi Wayne, Emma is a very happy baby and she is nearly always happy when she wakes up. Unless you wake her up when she's enjoying a sleep, in which case she lets you know right away! 😂 Thank you for your kind words, we really appreciate hearing from our viewers. We put soooooo many hours into this, in exchange for a pittance in revenue, (60 USD from UA-cam in the last 28 days - for all our videos!), but reading the lovely comments we get from people like you make it all worth while. Fair winds, Chris, Rossella & Emma 😊

    Good morning Emma thank you for brightening up my Saturday. The internet has sure made it easy to shop around and get a good price. All of us have a budget to worry about.

      Hi Tom, we're delighted that Emma brightened your day. She brings us so much joy and it's nice to be able to share some of that with others. We can stretch a budget a long way and we have some videos planned about finances. (For example how much our last boat cost us to keep over the 4 years we had her) We know that money is a big barrier to many people who would love to go cruising, and we would like to help by sharing our experiences. Fair winds! Chris, Rossella & Emma 😊

    Chris it would be good to mention that to never put anything aluminum in the acid solution. It will be dissolved and the solution will foam over. I had a auto radiator shop for 30 years and found this out the hard way long time ago.

    • @SailingBritaly
      @SailingBritaly  5 років тому

      Hi Walter, yes anything aluminium would be gone very quickly in that strength of acid. Thank you for commenting to help other people out - that is exactly what we are trying to achive with our channel. Fair winds! Chris 👍

    Playing dangerous there with the Kitchen pans and thermostat Chris. In your defence I have done the same. :) Reminds me of the time when I used our kitchen dishwasher to degrease an A series mini gearbox (just fits in nicely).....or the kitchen floor to disassemble a Mercedes cylinder head ready for sending to Redmans for a skim..... You can imagine how well that was received :)...

    • @SailingBritaly
      @SailingBritaly  6 років тому +2

      Hi David, the gearbox in the dishwasher is brilliant!... 😂 I think many of us are guilty of such sins. A hard one to beat is my late dad, who was rebuilding an old BSA motorbike inside our living room in our tiny 'two-up, two-down' terraced house with a friend of his. They were rebuilding the engine one night after midnight and before the exhaust was fitted my dad's mate 'gave it a little kickstart'. The engine started, without any kind of silencing! Cue ornamental plates falling off shelves and a near double murder as my mum (who is from Northern Ireland with a temper to match) came running down the stairs and nearly killed the two of them. My dad's friend was terrified of my mum after that!... 😂 Fair winds, Chris 👍

    • @digitalfantazia3953
      @digitalfantazia3953 6 років тому

      We sure are guilty. :) I could probably write a book on some of the adventures and feats we have done over the years.:) I remember my grandad Stanley telling me some of his stories - he did exactly the same as your dad in their front lounge with his motorbike in a back to back terrace :) He used to strip down a BSA Bantam and change the head gasket and all that they used to have to do on old english motorbikes to decoke etc. It must have been 'a thing' they used to do back then...in the lounge or on the dining room table it didnt seem to matter... . :) I dont recall him telling me he started her up though. I can imagine my grandma would be running round hopping mad if he did that :). Keep the lovely videos coming guys . Fair Winds and Following Seas

    Regarding the portlights it's a known Bavaria problem, a simple trick is to apply some silicone to the rubber edge and it will be water tight again. If you have a direct leak you can use Tec7 (Trans7clear) to seal it and even while it's wet.

    You guys must feed Ema some funny powder 😂
    The ‘Gorilla stand’ ,-you can glue some of the joints. You often only bending some of them, they get worn out. Glue the one and the rest work fine.
    I know it’s irritating, but it’s SO great when it’s working.
    Volvo parts....expensive!!!
    Fun fact: Volvo is Latin and means : I’m rolling.

      Hi Anders, Emma is a naturally happy baby and we are REALLY lucky to have her brighten up our lives. That's a great tip about the Gorillapod. We have a new one now (same model) so when it starts happening again we'll do that until we can find a more durable solution. We use our camera's all the time, so the tripod gets a huge amount of use. Fair winds! Chris, Rossella & Emma 😊

    To find the best camera gear, go to bhphoto.com and sort for the highest rated/most reviewed. B&H has so many customers that it is probably the largest repository of customer reviews out there for photo gear. No need to buy from them, just read the reviews.
