Lyrics:
Lover, one lovely day
Love came planning to stay
Green Dolphin Street supplied the setting
The setting for nights beyond forgetting
Through these moments apart
Love come here in my heart
When I recall the love I found on
I could kiss the ground on Green Dolphin Street
Lover, one lovely day
A love came planning to stay
Green Dolphin Street supplied the setting
The setting for nights beyond forgetting
And through these moments apart
Love come here in my heart
When I recall the love I found on
Im gonna kiss the ground I found on Green Dolphin Street
This song was made in heaven.
Absolutely!!!

MEIDO IN HEBUN
No. Not in heaven. Was made by polish composer Bronislaw Kaper and was played by many genius musicians like Davis.
That Bill Evans piano intro is a thing of beauty, one of best openings to a jazz recording ever. Really, everyone here contributes equally to making this a sublime listening experience.
I love Bill Evans, like any and everyone else. Beautiful, if not doleful player. Miles knew he had a unique player, a classy player. If I can say this with constructive criticism, although he is a great player, I found that he could never really SWING!, you know, like, say a Hancock, or a Garland, or a Kelly. His 'Affinity' album is wonderful, Sno Peas, Tomato Kiss, Wine & Roses. His style is
a more laid back style, though pensive.
Although there are isolated examples to the contrary that you could point to, I tend to agree that swinging hard was not Evans' strong suit generally. I think Miles realized this as well. It's not an accident he chose Wynton Kelley, not Evans, to play the piano solo on "Freddie Freeloader," which has a funkier blues groove to it compared to the other tracks on Kind of Blue that are more reflective in nature and perfectly suited to Evans' style.
Agreed.
179cpv if you want to hear bill Evans best intro look up "Porgy" live at village vanguard 1961. With Scott Lefaro.
On Green Dolphin Street (Live 1960) recording, Evans is replaced by Wynton Kelley on piano. Jazz with soul.
It feels like..It was made in heaven :)
It's the greatest in the world! ;)

I don't get all the prison references but I will say each solo, Miles, Trane, Cannonball and Bill Evans are mini-masterpieces with each one perfectly encapsulating their respective styles. We are truly not worthy but grateful that these gentlemen thought that we were.
Quick explanation: There’s a very popular anime/manga series called JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, and the creator of the series loves western music, so he puts references to western music in the series by naming characters, places, and abilities after various western songs, albums, and bands. The series’ sixth story arc, Stone Ocean, takes place in a prison in Florida called Green Dolphin Street Jail, hence all the prison jokes in the comments.
There are likely going to be a lot more comments made soon because the anime adaptation of Stone Ocean was just announced today
@@JBGR111 thanks for the clarification.
Quite right
Cannonball is articulate . No broken lines like Coltrane. One can hear Trane still adjusting his Ideas.
This is when jazz and spirituality meet.
This end result is heaven!
You can say it was... Made In Heaven

as a part time jazz musician and full time jojo fan i was happy to have recently played an arrangement of this piece!
I like how you're a part time musician and full time Jojo fans XD. Thanks for the laugh

Sadao kujo: HEEEEY
yes, same here haha. i came here because i was wondering if the jazz song had anything to do with the green dolphin street state prison from stone ocean lol
this is in jojo?
I know there is a lot of jokes about this but I really am grateful for Jojo to introduce me to so much INCREDIBLE music. I would've never thought in a million years I would be listening to this on purpose

Mom used to play Miles Davis non-stop. She’s gone now but last year I went by my brother in laws house for some reason and his neighbor was throwing a stack of albums out because of a divorce. 4 miles Davis albums along with a mint Beatle White album. Momma loved the Beatles too. Don’t tell me that me finding those was a coincidence. Installed a turntable in the garage and a highball glass of maple knob creek on ice and I’m lost in thought
No coincidence. Synchronicity.✊️👍
The saddest but one of the best piano intro of all time......
" It's always been a gift for me ...hearing music the way I do . I don't know where it comes from ... it's just there and I don't question it . " Miles Davis
Jimi Hendrix said that about the "⭐ Spangled Banner' after the Woodstock performance, musicians play what they hear n their heads, it is a different kind of blessing.

Someone said,"That's classical music."
It's a classic.
Jazz is America's classical music
I live In England, UK. I bought this album ( Jazz Track) in Manchester, England, in 1960. A friend of mine and myself would often sit and listen to this Album, in those days ( I twenty years of age at that time)
Sorry for being boringly nostalgic.
Peace to all.
There is no need to apologize, Alan. Count yourself lucky in having the groove. I reside in South Africa, Johannesburg, I still get the beautiful vibes of this tune.
I wish more young people did what you and your friend did. Great taste.
I wish I’d been so turned on to this when I was 20
This song (album) makes a good bourbon over ice so much better! Damn it man!
There is "good" burbon?
Only Bill Evans could so beautifully set the tone for Miles here with his intro. This is my all time favorite version of the classic.
Agree but Sassy's vocal would be the cherry on top of this fabulous cake.
WTF? Why isn't there a ❤️ button. This one is for my Mom and Dad. Dad, you made Mom so happy. You're still making her smile. Twenty-six years later, man. I miss you so much, but, GAWD, the joy you brought to us. I know you're listening to it with me. Endless love and you're still my best friend. Say hey to Miles and hug Nat for me!!

Every musician in this band adds something very, very special. There's not a weak link to be found.
I want this played at my jail sentence

fransuke12 hi friends
I want this played at my funeral, along with "I Come to The Garden Alone" & "Solar".
SubberCommentator900 wow me too !!!
Damn, you guys are real deep!! I'll just stick with a glass of wine on a rainy day night. Cheers!!
RIP to the great Jimmy Cobb. The drumming on this song is amazing and sublime. Notice the varying tone on the rimshots. So talented.
Yes, the drumming is extraordinarily smooth while powerful and authoritative.
I'm sold.
Me too!
This song wasn't on Kind of Blue. This was on 1958 Miles.
Thank you.
It was actually included on the Legacy Edition of the album released in 2009
It was also on his album Jazz Track which is where I first heard it. This album has been impossible for me find!!
Cassandra, not trying to make you feel bad, but I found Jazz Track last weekend in a vinyl record store, here in Australia, just north of Sydney. I'm gonna go buy it. The store owner had it hidden under the counter with Miles at Carnegie Hall - I had to ask him 'where's the good stuff'.
@@NDrescherMusic I was wondering why the cover of kind of blue...
There is no downside to this song. It is perfect.
This music is timeless. So grateful I was raised on this.

The moment Adderley comes in with his solo is when I feel like the song is elevated to another level of greatness.
No words, no words... just unspoken words
this is what jazz musicians seek when they play together - that "locked-in" mental and spiritual high!
I bought this on an EP in 1966. John Coltrane blew me away
I was expecting the comments to be filled with jazz enthusiasts and players
But i see a bunch of anime profile pics with references i dont get
Im guessing they all are jojos references lol

bro, the piano intro still gives me goosebumps.
Without jazz musicians immortalizing great compositions, to sustain the greatness of these genius composers, to keep their gems alive, where would
we be.
I friggin love Adderly , relentlessly inventive yet always compelling, Bill Evans ! Damn, this is truly the jazz dream team.
Bill Evans is so smooth. Listen to those compact chords on the solo. Love to hear him play.
Love how the first two comments say how this song is heaven
- - - like yeah, man - only the dead can enjoy the groove.....
The luscious piano, the rhythmic bass entry and then the brittle clarity of Miles’ harmon muted horn. The personification of the small jazz ensemble’s right to receive the level of respect normally reserved for the classical music genre.
What a towering masterpiece of a performance.
Incredible, beautiful, all of the musicians adding to the whole piece. Love this track
It truly is a wonderful world
3:12 this is where the saxophone begins
Heaven is jamming with all these players finally all together again! God blessed them with such talent and beautiful music!
Man I love this song from first hearing it .
Such a beautiful Autumn to Winter song.
I love everything Miles did but I love this stuff a bit more than the electric fusion eras.
This melody is irresistible... I can't listen without singing along.
I had had heard "On Green Dolphin Street " was a Miles Davis jam so I am checkin it out and a whole new world of Jazz is opening up for me, I grew up liking rock, blues, r and b, hip hop, top 40, classical, country and western, but for the first time in my 50 years Miles Davis brought music to my ears.
Same hear my Stepfather and his Father had Jazz albums galore but I didn't get until now. 51yrs old and now starting to appreciate Jazz for really the first time..Awesome

Our middle school jazz band played a big band arrangement of this a while ago, but I like this version more. It just fits the name "On Green Dolphin Street" better.
Hey 6 years ago guy, do you remember the arranger? Interested to hear what a big band version of this cool jazz group tune would even sound like.
@@insaneevillogan gordon goodwin’s big band played an arrangement of it pretty sure it’s on yt
No other jazz group should be allowed to play this unforgettable hymn.
The music and lyrics to the song represents the excitement, the joy and experience of a new found love that life allowed for to short a time.
Kaper's masterpiece. He also wrote "Invitation." The solos are exquisite. Best recording ever of a great song!
Now this is what you call 'swingin'. Only Haz, purists know what I'm talking about. Real smooth. Everybody at their best here.
Yo fellas! Cannonball is a finesse ass player yo! It's a reason Miles had him in his band, no? When you get the chance, listen to his solo on Milestones, and I mean listen GOOD, he'll blow your mind dude. Peace.
so true, man. Such creative soloing
jamal jabbar that solo of his on Milestones has always been one of my favorites, I'm glad I'm not the only one!
+Reagan McCann It's good to know I'm not the only one. We're friends for life!
He could hang with Miles and Trane. That about says it all.
Fr though cannonball was really something else
the coltrane solo gets me everytime.
Jotaro was the one who framed Jolyne, he wanted to have an excuse to visit Green Dolphin Street
The real reason Jotaro visit Jolyne is that he thought there's an actual Green Dolphin there
I believe that to be the truth. Jotaro, King of Dolphins merely wanted to be near a place that either had the physical animal or just had the word in its name somewhere. This is why he's banned from SeaWorld.
that's why he read the diary in the first place
Ahhhhh nothing like cool clean American jazz to refresh the soul daddy oh ................
It is one of the most amazing renditions of a jazz song I've ever heard. Possibly, the most.
To me this is the greatest jazz song of them all. The sheer genius of each solo piece and the entire composition. I love to hear Miles and Coltrane lay down the law on this song. Two great lawgivers laying it down for the rest to follow 🤟🤘 Also love the Jimmy Cobb brushes lol and that Connonball swing🥰
I can why Miles Davis is Bruno Bucciarati's favorite artist, all of miles Davis songs are smooth like silk
1 year later I hope you’ve listened to more miles davis and realized that your statement isn’t actually true
This is a music that transcends genres not solely because of its elegance but the particular mastery required to play it.
Sometimes this song just pops in my head and I feel a sense of tranquility like no other.
Many great versions of this, but this is without a doubt my favorite. Congregating geniuses at work here
best Miles group of all time originally on an album called "Jazz Track"....Miles,Coltrane ,Cannonball, Bill Evans, Paul Chambers and Jimmy Cobb.
Growing up in BK, NY, my Mother use to blast this album & especially this song! Sooo glad I found after view American Masters last night. Haven't heard this tune since I was 6! Thank you.
This POSTING QUALITY is the very best one I have heard in the years I've been listening to this tune done by MIles and Trane, et al.
By far one of the coldest intros I have ever heard!
My favorite miles song .. bill evans and coltrane just terrific and miles wow 💜
First recorded by Miles Davis Sextet on 26 May 1958 at Columbia Studios, 30th Street, New York and part of a group of three tracks recorded that same day ('Fran Dance' and 'Stella by Starlight') that were included on Miles' LP 'Jazz Track' released later in 1958. There are certainly two if not three studio versions of 'On Green Dolphin Street' circulating. This version (Take 3) is identical to the one later included on the 2009 Legacy bonus disc release of 'Kind of Blue'. However, there is a slightly different version, suspected from the same 26 May 1958 session, that has been included on the Sony compilation CD 'The Real Miles Davis'. There are of course, a number of live versions available, with the latest crop turning up on the highly-impressive 'Miles Davis 'Live in Europe 1967, Bootleg Vol 1' collection.
Wicked Just wicked

Being both a jazz head and jojos fan, this comment section makes me so happy
perfection and the most sublime sound imaginable of any genre
I’ve been hooked to this like a drug since I discovered it years ago as it’s not on the original Kind of Blue record - everyone is so so good on it, but Bill Evans was an actual God omg that solo
What a wonderful world...
I love Bill's opening, and then Coltranes entrance in contrast to Mile's closing solo. Masterpiece.
This is a music that transcends genres because of the elegance of the conversation! A conversation that requires a certain mastery!
it's amazing to hear this song and that your mind takes you back to that time
I remember having a "mindfulness" day in my jazz band and my band director played this album. I miss jazz band so much, and just relaxing listening to Miles Davis for a whole hour was so nice, I love this song. I also love jojo but for whatever reason it just kinda makes me upset seeing jojokes, like I just want people to love jazz, I hope everyone here respects and loves this song/album as much as they love jojo
i feel you. it's hard loving jazz more than anime, for this exact reason.
I understand your feel I love jojo much as the musics, jazz, rock. them it just my life I feel good everytime when I just do it.
Cannonball swings!!
I remember back when my eldest now 48 was riding in the tiny basket safely strapped on my 5 speed bike as I wheeled us across the way from Compton on our way to seeing my dying Aunt May and I felt about this song and wondered if being on Green Dolphin Street would look something like this? 40+ years later i realized i was correct ✅... it means being on a dimly lit Street perhaps with a tint of green coming from a strangely lit streetlight quickly on your way to give and receive L♡VE before the moment I'd over and entire cast [of audience and actors] has changed into a brand new now. 🛣
I fell in love with this song as a child when my mother watched in on a old b&w television set.
It's great how pristine this comment section is for now. Give it a year.
