I've carried a Victorinox Swiss Champ since the 1980's. I can honestly say I've used every single tool on it in both military and civilian applications, and to me that's what an EDC knife should provide. It's not for self defense unless as a last resort and my "go bag" has better defense and bush crafting options, but for carrying on my belt or in my jeans watch pocket, it has everything most people would ever need.
That is a great gift for your son. I’ve always loved Victornox knives. I got my first “Swiss Army” knife when I was ten. It was the Explorer. It had a magnifying glass.
last thing (promise) those knife are supposed to be lifetime warranty, they can change every broken part or missing tools you can contact them / send back and they will repare (even the plastic handle)
Remember Lily, the quality remains long after the price is forgotten. I also have a Spyderco (com s30v) and a Victorinox as my EDC. I purchased a genuine Victorinox leather holder for my knife and it fits the knife perfectly. Great collection.
Growing up I watched my stepfather use his mini keychain utility knife to repair or open so many things, he used it more than any other knife, and he also used his dad's vintage craftsman keychain screwdriver to fix or open many household items, RIP
The Victorinox Trailmaster is my favourite multitool. I bought my first Victorinox Trailmaster 15 years ago and it is still going strong. It's travelled around the world with me. I started collecting them and I have several variants now. I also recommend the Victorinox Swiss Card. You can remove the blade to carry it on a plane and still have all the other tools.
What a nice collection! I have many Victorinox knives and also consider them of top quality! A big influence for me was Felix Imler's videos on the many functions and modifications that can be applied! You made some excellent purchases, and know that you paid a fraction of what these knives sell for today! I've been doing the same as a hobby over the last twenty years, and have a massive collection! Thanks for the excellent videos you've been offering over the years! You, Sepp, and Taro are may favorite youtubers!
I have the red ranger model, although mine has a thumb ring for easy opening. I have a lot of knives. You can never have enough knives. I like that you are putting a knife aside for your son, even though he is still a toddler.
Great video Lilly! I have 3 Victorinox knives. The one I use for EDC was given to me used. I'm shipping/receiving department and I use it daily for cutting tape/boxes, etc. My favorite that I don't use because I want to keep it new for a long time is the same as yours, the Ranger Grip. Corporals Corner frequently uses the same Ranger Grip.
For urban EDC, I always carry a Nail Clip 580 and a SwissTool Spirit X. For hunting trips a Rangergrip Hunter 58. For canoe trips, a Swiss Champ which has been awesome. In the kitchen, I have many Victorinox knives, the bread knife is the best I have ever used.
i also have a trekker. the liner lock is on the opposite side for right handed users as Lilly mentioned - i don't know why they went that route, but i don't find it an inconvenience.
My pocket knives are Walmart specials I bought on clearance for $1 each....but I only use them to open packages and break down boxes. And the way I misplace them, its a good thing they aren't expensive lol.
I have the earliest version of the multitool, its a bit more of a block shape, but a solid tool i have carried and used hard for years. A good place to find a good replacement sheath is look at pistol magazine holders, they come in a wide selection of sizes. For an edc knife I always carry the Fieldmaster, the perfect combination of tools, in a compact size, that doesn't alarm anybody if you pull it out. I probably use mine a hundred times a day, and I wouldn't leave home without it. Its got me out of many akward situations, and never let me down.
Hi Lilly, very nice collection of knives. I have the electrician version of the multitool. Its excellent. I agree, the hunting pro knife good for cleaning fish and self defense. Those are very nice gifts for him. Ya may not be able to keep him out of the woods. Thanks for the video. 🙂
The best personal carry self defense knives are the two inch "arrowhead" fixed blade T-Bar handle knives that conceal easily on your belt line. The punching knives are incredibly strong and effective. Great video, Lilly!
I don't mind a folding knife for hunting, but I do like a serated blade on the lower section. A little dried blood and dirt don't hurt. Besides, most are stainless and not a big deal to soak and scrub a little. I really like your content, thanks.
I love Victorinox knives! I have one of the same knives you show in this video (the Huntsman). It too is my go to for cross country trails. Great video! I plan to get the Ranger 55 for my son this Summer. He's 17 and will be going through the Ranger Course at Summer camp.
I care a ranger grip 79 when I carry a sak. I gave 65$ american for it. To me that is far from expensive. I carry Benchmade knives which can cost hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars. Probably the best mass produced knives in the world. I have found that other than holding a edge longer the Benchmade don't really have a lot of advantages over the Victorinox. As for multitool, i carry leatherman arc or charge plus tti. Again, more money but in this case worth the extra money. Great video! You go girl.
I have a drawer full of pocket knives, most made in US (Spyderco, Benchmade, ZT, Leatherman, Buck, etc.) a couple made in Taiwan, one made in Japan and one made in China (a mistake I never made again). For years my EDC has been the Benchmade Freek. It's not my most expensive knife but it's light, strong blade, easy and fast to use with one hand and the blade is S30V (not the best steel but easy to sharpen and holds an edge).
The "hunting knife" would be a great deer knife!! Americans have been using Buck 110 & 112 to field dress deer for decades. I personally have used the same Buck 112 since I was 12 years old for deer hunting, im 52 now. As a previous person commented, get a T - handle knife, like Ka-Bar TDI, for defense. Swiss Army knives are a great 1 tool option, I have many!
I been carying a victorinox standard issue date of 1981 for Almost 20 years. Very slim and practical. Holds a sharp edge. For self defense I use my hand and feet or my gun if it get to that point.
I carry a Victorinox Rucksack 111mm. It’s fantastic. Love the clip mod you did. I carry it suspended with a clip on the key ring. Your son is lucky! Have an excellent day.
Personally I daily carry the Para 3 lightweight Spyderco, mainly because of the quick one handed open capability for self protection, and what makes it awesome is the superior compression lock instead of the liner lock that your model has, so fingers are out of the way when it closes. Love the Victorianox knives too but I keep one in each car for multitasking and one in every go bag too.
Some knife maker should have it set up on the website where you can pick 6-8 of your favorite features, to custom build the perfect knife for you . I never use most of what is on mine.
Totally! I always would want scissors and a saw, which rules out most standard versions. And I don't need Philips screwdrivers unless I'm going to America, or travelling back in time. I hope a manufacturer takes your suggestion.
I enjoyed your video, I have a simular collection, my 1st 110 victorinox helped me survive flooding after hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. I still have that knife! I have replaced it with the liner-lock knife, I'm left handed and the new knife feels like it was designed for a lefty.
Nice collection. I have a Victorinox Hercules. It is like the Outrider (the 4th one that Lilly presents), but it has also a small plyer. I love it, I carry it everywhere with me in its own leather sheath, it has been very useful in many situations. It is almost perfect, I wish it had a saw for cutting iron.
The new Victorinox is awesome for “Lefties” like me. I’ve been in a Right handed world and have adapted with no issues (no cuts). I like the old models as well great stuff 👍
Hi Lilly I like the Hunter pro saw Joex destruction test, by the way I am glad he is back. Had to decide between Hunter pro and SR! light from cold steel since the price here in Slovenia is similar. I like the grip of the SR1 light more it is softer and more gripy + it has a triadlock so I went with the SR1 light. Chek it out you might like it, also miss survival Mike. Great person.
The Ranger Grip is a great and durable knife. I saw a total destruction of a Ranger Grip on JoeX channel and could not believe the amount of abuse it took. I have the 178 w/ a partially serrated main blade.
❤I didn't know you had a son. Very nice collection, mom. I hope you teach him all of your Bushcraft skills, especially your bow and arrow skills. Great video. I really liked the first knife you picked up.
Great breakdown and the sheaths you made look amazing. I prefer to carry a Victorinox with a saw for outdoors and one with scissors for indoors: Ranger 78 or trekker for outdoors, huntsman or explorer for indoors. I have the Swiss tool cs+ and a Swiss champ but find them to be too heavy to carry around. I do think the Victorinox Venture Pro looks pretty cool because I watch Felix Immler but honestly, I need a backup Silky Saw more than another knife.
Don't carry my Victorinox Pioneer anymore for safety reasons ie the blade doesn't lock open. My fav edc, the SOG Flash 1, was discontinued. Glad I bought two of them. Sometime carry a Spyderco Lil' Native, Dragonfly 2, Delica 4, Benchmade Mini Griptilian or a Sanrenmu Land 910. The 910 is probably the best value, it's a lot of knife for the money. Cheers!
My hutsman camo just came in mail. All sharpened and I ground the wire stripper like my leatherman, to cut thread, small twine and insulation. Strips elect wire just fine!
I keep a Victrinox Huntsman as my EDC. It's great for wilderness and urban applications, and I especially like the scissors and saw on it. Not a day goes by where I don't use it!
You should build a woodsman swiss. That means getting the good magnifying glass. And anything that has to do with wood works leather works or canvas works. So other than blade. It needs plier for fish hook. Metal saw as well as wood saw. Magnifying glass for fire. Reem .awl. punch sew awl. Multi hook. And so on till its all there. Thick but manageable. Then of course the belt holster for it with a real farrow rod spot crafted into it.
I’ve switched to a Hank’s belt, which is made of heavy leather and just started carrying my Buck knife and Leatherman on it instead of things in my pockets.
I wear a Gerber multi-tool on my belt in canvas sheath w/velcro closure. I use it A LOT. I have an Old Timer in my pocket for regular cutting applications. I like 9 mill-o-metah for self defense. :)
Lilly, the Ranger 55 is not new. It was made by Wenger for years and there was several versions. Once Victorinox bought Wenger and shut the business down, they took some of the knives into the Victorinox range but killed off many great knives from Wenger. We sold both in our stores but I always felt the Wenger designs were better, but of course Victorinox didn't want to get rid of their designs, only Wengers.
G'day Lilly looky here my favorite subject being a hobby knife maker it's Knives and other bladed weapons I see you have a good collection and you have made some nice leather pouches for some too. Very handy to have I have had many pocket knives growing up as a kid and still have a few I use for my leather work or in the tackle box. Cheers for this video , stay safe.
Victorinox have been recently screwing up on their design work and put out a knife and sheath that shouldn't have been put out for the public to buy , older knives by Victorinox are still decent knives but the new I'm refusing to purchase. ❤Lilly.
I've the liner lock outrider, Found It a little clumsy at the start but soon got used to it and it's easier cleaned than the button variant. Also have the wooden handled ranger, bit big for the pocket but a beautiful knife to own.
The knife you are currently carrying reminds me of the Ranger grip 79 that I have minus the saw all the rest of the tools are the same on the ranger grip 79 in the 79 is much cheaper than the 78 and others for some reason I use the corkscrew to hold my sail needle and to pluck out knots and such I also have a leather pouch for mine.
nice collection Lilly . I will be trying to get the Ranger 55 , if possible in Australia . Most places here in Aussie have banned you from carrying a pocket knife in public .Camping etc is one exception .
I have one like the one you show in the video, but now I use the Ranger 178. You don't have to press the liner lock directly, you only press the logo in one side and that release the liner lock
Ontario RAT1 for EDC, the most useful and affordable single blade folder on the planet, never pull my pants on without it. AUS8, plenty good enough for a utility blade and made perfectly in Taiwan. Get yourself one, Lilly, you'll understand immediately.
Nice Lilly. Im a big fan of small multi use knives. I have the Leatherman BLAST multi tool. its a very old model, & it still kicks ass+. Cheers from British Columbia.
The trouble with these knives is that they won't keep a good edge with anything other than light use. You need to always combine it with a means to sharpen it and keep a good edge.
I have both your knives and I had a good laugh when you said that this folding Victorinox was too big for your hands! I agree that for EDC purposes it might be much for your size. And I am curious how you found such great deals on still brand-new knives...
Very good, interesting video with conclusive explanations of the individual Victorinox models. Do you know the 110mm Locksmith? That's my “almost” perfect ECD Victorinox. It opens one hand, has a wood and metal saw. The only thing missing is scissors. But then it would be almost too thick and heavy. We have to accept there is no "perfect" Victorinox - so we can get various 🙂
I can recommend the actually issued Swiss 🇨🇭 army knife as edc on a farm as well. Wasn’t so sure about which tools I would really use.. somehow it does most of the jobs and I never missed a scissors or the wine bottle opener 😅
Edc is a Spartan. If I’m going near the woods, I switch to a Camper. If I’m going in the woods, it’s a German military modded to hold the tooth pick and tweezer.
and if i may, the multitool exists in two version, blade knife and saw knife, you have to choose, perhaps it's more of new versions (sorry for comment spamming) but it's swiss !!!
Hi Lilly you’ve been watching equalizer When I saw and have a few vic knives the cork screw is also my fave on self defence , though my fairbain Sykes will hit home as our sas also use them and i new one first hand + i believe sbs also have them as new one of there guys , these both never let on but , yah just know 😉👌
I'm a lefty so I never thought much about the release. But I get what you're saying. It would be backwards for a righty. I tried it lol not the easiest to do. But it would be difficult to get it close on you.
I've carried a Victorinox Swiss Champ since the 1980's. i have made use of the warranty service several times, and every time they fixed everything wrong with the knife, no questions asked.
Do they charge you for repairs?

Definition of a survival knife: the knife you have on you when in a survival situation. Choose wisely.

i also have a trekker. the liner lock is on the opposite side for right handed users as Lilly mentioned - i don't know why they went that route, but i don't find it an inconvenience.
Thats why I use the one handed Forester grip, same tools than the trekker but non serrated blade (and corkscrew, witch I also prefer)
Spyderco and Victorinox have always been my favorites. You can always count on them to work, especially in a survival situation.
My pocket knives are Walmart specials I bought on clearance for $1 each....but I only use them to open packages and break down boxes. And the way I misplace them, its a good thing they aren't expensive lol.

I had the same problem with the liner lock on Victorinox, but now I usually use the left hand and then it works fine.
Great collection, Lilly. That's one of the best presents you can give your son!

Thr best self-defense folding knife is the COLD STEEL large 'Espada' 🔪
I've the liner lock outrider, Found It a little clumsy at the start but soon got used to it and it's easier cleaned than the button variant. Also have the wooden handled ranger, bit big for the pocket but a beautiful knife to own.
I use the German Army One Hand Trekker for my EDC. I have supplemented it with a Swiss Card Lite for smaller tools.

I also have a leather pouch for mine.
nice collection Lilly . I will be trying to get the Ranger 55 , if possible in Australia . Most places here in Aussie have banned you from carrying a pocket knife in public .Camping etc is one exception .
I always preferred the Wenger style scissors with the lever instead of the spring.
My vote goes to Victorinox (Wenger) Ranger 55. Blade, saw, can opener, bottle opener, cork screw, awl... That's it!
I have one like the one you show in the video, but now I use the Ranger 178. You don't have to press the liner lock directly, you only press the logo in one side and that release the liner lock
My EDC is a Victorinox Handyman (with Plus scales and tools) and a larger single blade folder, currently a Cold Steel Eland.
Nice video! My go to victorinox is the huntsman.
My latest edc is a victorinox hunter xt love the saw and the knife itself awesome video and comparisons thank you for that
I really like having the multitool that you showed us. It comes handy for a lot of things.

The Victorinox that I have carried for 30 years is the small Executive. It has always been useful. All Victorinox products are excellent.
which victorinox is the right one?? ...any of them, even the small classic one
I carry the big ranger with the gut blade and saw. I never worry about hygienic knives because I keep them clean.

What about the RangerGrip series; they have a button lock and the 71 also have a pair of scissors.
Yeah yeah; I should watch the video to the end.😅
Just purchased couple Victorinox Swiss Army Knives (Hunter) and (Champ) Probably will get lock blade version also. Thank You
Leather pouches look like good workmanship.
I also have a good collection of Victorinox knives and I EDC a tinker in a Victorinox belt pouch.
Thanks from USA
Thanks
Nice video. Danke
Hi Lilly you’ve been watching equalizer When I saw and have a few vic knives the cork screw is also my fave on self defence , though my fairbain Sykes will hit home as our sas also use them and i new one first hand + i believe sbs also have them as new one of there guys , these both never let on but , yah just know 😉👌
Thank you for sharing, so interesting! 💕🙏🏻🕊😇. California here.
I'm a lefty so I never thought much about the release. But I get what you're saying. It would be backwards for a righty. I tried it lol not the easiest to do. But it would be difficult to get it close on you.
Sak knives are simply the best…
I like the original Swiss Army pattern with scissors and a saw. Both are handy addons to the base knife.
I like the ranger grip 78 it has a thumb hole on the blade and both the blade and saw have a liner lock.
