- Mortal Kombat 3 (MK3) is a fighting game developed by Midway Games and first released into arcades in 1995 as the third game in the Mortal Kombat series. As in the previous games, it has a cast of characters that players choose from and guide through a series of battles against other opponents. The game avoids the tournament storyline of its predecessors, as various warriors instead fight against the returning Shao Kahn, who has resurrected his bride Sindel and started an invasion of Earthrealm.
The third installment of Mortal Kombat retains the blood and gory attacks that defined the series. It introduces new types of the Fatality finishing moves, including Animalities. Other features new to the series were combos, predefined sequences used to perform a series of consecutive attacks. A "Run" button was also added, allowing players to briefly dash toward the opponent, as were "Kombat Kodes", an unlockable content system using various symbols that can be entered before two-player matches to achieve certain effects.

1995 -1998 were the best times to be a kid with a Sega Mega-drive 16bit system and playing sonic, power rangers but this here is why we love MORTAL KOMBAT today

In the Sega Genesis version of Mortal Kombat 3, when Liu Kang was sometimes hurt or killed, he has Nightwolf's scream.

Nice that you were able to do these while I couldn't. Honestly though, this one has the best Genesis port. The other 2 just couldn't control well to me. I did try the Master System versions as well, & they controlled a little floaty too.

MK3 looks and sounds so evil on genesis!
It also looks inferior to the arcade and PS1 version, Sega port was good for the 90's but this is not a version I would play nowadays. It was great for a 90's kid though.

Why in Snes Liu Kang did not use Kabal/Stryker's fatality scream?
In Genesis Liu Kang has Nightwolf's fatality scream that is used for all male characters.
What do you mean by Nightwolfs scream? If all the male characters use that same screaming sound, then it doesn’t only belong to Nightwolf.
This ACTUALLY doesn't look bad as compared to the halfassed ports they did on MK1 and 2 on the Genny.
Made by the same developer that made all the SNES Mortal Kombat games.
Namely, the ill-fated Sculptured Software; Probe actually handled the reprogramming of the first 2 MK installments on Genesis for Arena / Acclaim (ditto for their Game Gear / Game Boy counterparts).

smoke was my second favorite when you could play as him but my all time favorite would be scorpion and liu kang by far then smoke and in the later mortal kombats my favorite cyrax and scorpion then smoke and then probably kano or jax I loved the gotcha move lol
I don´t want to start a fight here but it surprised me that in Amazon both MK3 and Ultimate MK3 has better rating (more stars) on Sega Genesis than the SNES ones.
+Fernando Almonte They were better on the Genesis. I played them all back in the day. The Genesis ones were faster and the controls were more responsive. The Snes ones had better graphics though.

Ultimate MK3 on Mega Drive and SNES got rid of all Animalities.

You need apply a mecy before. after you win the 3rd round, jump at least half the screen away, hold run, press down, down, down, release run

Fatality 1: (Sweep Distance): Hold Block and Run, press Down, Down, Forward, Up
Fatality 2: (Full Screen Away): Up, Up, Foward, Down
Mortal kombat games would be nothing without Finishing Moves!♡
What I don’t like about Mortal Kombat 3 is in novice ladder you can not the character special moves
I will say, I think the Genesis port wasn't all that great. But at least when someone blows up there weren't 10 legs, 20 arms and 5 heads flying around like in the Arcade and arcade ports.
The SNES version was good with this too.

Wtf? How do u do animalities on genesis??? When I play the game I was never able to do it for any character. I thought they took out the animalities because they couldn’t fit it into the game 16 bit or something. I have tried everything but never got 1 animality. How do u do it???

UMK3 removes Animalities and replaces them with Brutalities on the Mega Drive. Sheeva is also removed for memory purposes, and Rain and Noob Saibot are playable.
If you're playing MK3, you and your opponent must both win a round. Then on the third round, you must win and then do a Mercy. I forget the combination, you must look that up. Your opponent will regain a sliver of health. Defeat him/her again and then finally, you may perform an Animality.
Yeah, there's a reason people hated (and still hate) doing Animalities.
Emperor Alonzo it was umk3 on sega genesis, that’s whAt I thought. Animalities were removed. Thought I saw animalities demonstrations on UA-cam for umk3 on the genesis somewhere.
