i can see it being good for someone who just wants some light gaming and doing normal day to day stuff, but its not replacing the optiplex for people using them as steamdeck type devices.
Naaa - does not have the customisation options of an optiplex and hence no discrete gpu option. You can get a 9020 optiplex for 100 something and upgrade it with a LP GPU… maybe the cpu is slower, but it will run circles around this thing (time spy of around 5000 with a used a2000)

@@TechDweeb The point of the Dell OptiPlex was that you can pick them up for cheap or even for free. Businesses buy them in the dozens to hundreds, and offload them every so often.
Back in 2016 I refurbished one particular model (9010) that had an i7-3770, 32GB RAM, 512GB SSD, 4TB HDD, and an impressive GTX-1050Ti. Total cost was close to that of a PS4, but this thing tore that to shreds.
Beyond that it gets hard. You need to find Office PCs that will have
1- the Pcie Slot available for a dGPU (Low Profile, Half Height).
2- And they need to come with a modern CPU (i5-6700 to i7-8700 to i9-9900) to prevent bottlenecks and keep up with newer and newer Ryzen chips.
3- And have the dGPU available. We hit a wall after the GTX-1650 and there's some niche ones out there from RTX-A lineup.
4- Have the whole setup be more affordable than a pre-built system. Just because it's possible doesn't mean you should build it, if there is not much financial incentive. You can easily find yourself spending USD $900 or more, building a lackluster system. So you need to plan ahead your budget and your component selection. And if all goes right, you might get rewarded with a cheap system that looks good and plays well, just like I did back in 2016 or so (also did it even earlier with GTX-750Ti).

Question, Have you tested Intel UHD 630 vs Radeon Vega? I'm tying to buy a cheap mini refurbished business PC, like an HP Elitedesk or a Dell Optiplex. What systems are emulate-able on a 630? I know the Radeon Vega graphics are great on the Ryzen 2400G, up to some Wii. Can the i5 7600's UHD 630 do the same, but with more CPU power?

@@bigchimpin4215depends on what you need. An Optiplex can be be upgraded with dedicated GPU for gaming (maybe except SFF)
The only time I don't mind a bunch of a-holes is when they're on my computer. 😁
I like the form factor, if nothing else I learned GMKtec makes more stuff than I thought.

Good review! This is a very nice box, and reasonably priced as well. For emulation i prefer any AMD Ryzen APU based system over even high end Intel CPUs. The graphic power of Ryzen APUs is just too good. My athlon300u based notebook does almost WiiU emulation. And its one of the weakest one can get.This may change with new Intel architecture just landing though.

The drivers for my K# were on a sole website, that may not ever be updated or even still be there next year because these companies knock out a new replacement unit about every 2 months and it's unclear whether the site will be maintained. The AMD drivers did not update with Adrenalin and it seems you are stuck with the one original drivers from that website. I bought mine from Amazon and was lucky enougfh to be able to return it. This is not a supported PC like everyone is used to and there are too many customers posting messages that the company didn't honor their warranties. I could only find one driver for each of GMKTec's models and no listings for previous versions so I concluded there is one driver, it's not updated, and you are stck with it. If you can find these units being wholesaled of for under $300, that might be an okay deal but $600 is too much of an investment for what they are.

IKR, who buys new Optiplexes? Usually they're leased for a few years, and refurbished/resold when the lease is over. I never heard of someone actually buying them new. At full price. From Dell.
