Like every pizza business, many started selling just pizza but later started selling other things like wings, sides, desserts, drinks, and extras. They diversified the business. That's the issue I see with having a "Web Design" agency. The issue with this business model is that the only thing you do is build websites. You don't make money making banners or updating content, you make money building websites, only one service. You diversify offering other things related to Web Design, like custom web development, SEO, content writing, social media management, branding, consulting, e-commerce, etc. Let's take SEO as an example, SEO is something that you start seeing results after 3 months. An SEO service requires signing a contract for a year, where the client would pay from $500 to $1300 every month. 500x12=6000 from only one client. You can survive with an ugly website but can't without SEO, Ads, or Social Media. You can do the web design in-house and outsource oversees everything else. I was stuck in that loop for a while! 😉
As a product designer turned digital marketing agency expert who is going into wanting to understand web dev myself. That’s how I see my future agency as a mix of different offerings & services but definitely also wants that are retainer based.

So i'm transiting from a solo website designer to running an agency , get an office space and the branding that comes with it . I need some sort of validation for this move , i'm kinda nervous cos it seems like a big step . Is an Agency the right step ? Or AI will eventually take over webdesign ? Am i coming to the party late or is this still a good time ? I will appreciate any input guys .
An Agency is good. Don't get an office, go remote and use the money to hire better talent. You're doing the same thing as solo just hiring people to help do projects.
