I completely disagree with this take. I'm 36 years old when I was between 20 and 20 4 years old I would say I was relatively very depressed I drank a lot of alcohol and that's how I tried to deal with it. Want to got a little bit older I started saying to myself do I want to be depressed and then I started saying no I don't and end up finding things that I enjoyed doing so whenever I would feel like I'm a little down or a little depressed I would go find something that I knew would bring me joy whether that was a video game whether that was going playing hoops with my friends whether that was watching a movie that I enjoyed. to the problem that we have in society now is no one wants to ever blame the person for why their life is the way it is someone's an addict they try to do everything they do to blame something else for why the addict is addicted rather than saying the attic you're the problem you won't stop using this drug or doing this action that you're addicted to instead of just calling a person out and stop blaming everything else except the person. A lot of times we put ourselves into a but none of the time do we tell ourselves that we can pour ourselves out of that mindset. Depression is a learned behavior. And how you deal with it is also a learned behavior. If you say you're depressed and you get all the attention in the world where people consoling you and whatnot You're going to be depressed a lot more cuz you get the attention that you want from others. It's quite funny they actually found out that depression is not caused by chemical imbalance and that the people who are saying this for years have been lying about it just to push a drug to people that actually made them more depressed than they initially thought they were.

That's exactly what he said. Did you choose to be in that pit of depression? I'm guessing not. Did you choose a strategy that made things worse? Yes, and I'm guessing you didn't know it would make things worse when you made that choice. Eventually you realized it was making things worse, so you tried something else. You are proving his point. How about this? If you are in a tsunami, being a strong swimmer is not going to save you. If you drown in 6 inches of water it's usually because there are other problems that make you unable to swim. Most situations are somewhere in between. But people usually don't get into the water unless they are pretty sure it's safe.
