That plug shows it's way rich....Until you fix the leak jet you'll never get it right. You can easily make a gasket from an old aluminum pop can cut up as a shim gasket
@@scottydaly7270 Correct, That popping and slight miss is classic valve problems, as the reason the cams out of alignment stopped where it did is from a valve hitting the piston, and now after replacing the cams, a valve is either bent or needs reseating, but by leaving it like it is will lead to its failure, along with the engine.

I had a 2000 Kawasaki klx300 that was hard starting, broke the kick stater shaft, had to split the cases. turns out the automatic decompression mechanism was off from the the factory. found the plans and info on planet klx and had to re time the cam shaft, ran great and never had problem with that engine..Nice job man..

Favorite UA-camr at the moment. So satisfying to diagnose and follow along as Joe finds the solution. I let go of a couple projects early in my building career because I got frustrated. Love his patience in turning over every stone.
Congrats for another great solution! You wouldn't be out of line if you added your hourly to the buy back! A shop would be charging $125 an hour and most likely would not have found the issue so it's way OK for you to recoup your effort and expertise!
First of all, 4-strokers are a pain in the ass to diagnose. Could be a number of factors to get dialed in perfectly. One issue at a time n you'll eventually figure it out. Watching Joe do his thing on these machines is an art form. Learning more and more with each project. Keep the progression towards enlightenment bud! You're doin great!
This is why, you have to have faith in mankind. No matter the race, Creed, color, or religion. There are a lot of angels out there. I've never ridden a motorcycle. He makes a hell of a profit on every machine he works on, whether he keeps them or sells them. He's got 500,000+ subscribers and that brings in a nice tidy sum of UA-cam $$$ on every video. That's how all those UA-camrs that go around destroying six figure cars and stuff are able to buy them in the first place. UA-cam money, if you can make content that is actually watched, pays lots and lots of $$$.

Every time you snap that throttle, it shouldn't be at a high idle like that, it should be a normal low idle. Something is off in the carb, or possibly an air leak somewhere; but it doesn't sound right
Great job as always. Fcr carb rebuild should always be with the mid body gasket kit. This resolves many idle / mixture issues. Nice human touch with the selling back price 😅

first rule of troubleshooting.. make one change.. recheck.. then another, recheck.. etc. one problem i have here is... you said yourself that the carb was modified, and there is extra fuel from the accelerator pump, and the carb is running way to rich.. seems to me, since the carb is "damaged" and cannot be restored, you need a new carb, to resolve this, instead of changing the needle position.
Joe, when it comes to radiating caps, inspect the pullback valve very closely. That goes south on all, and I mean all radiator caps first. That is why I pressure test every cap on a bike or car, for that matter that I service. Force of habit, yes and a cheap insurance policy for my clientele. What reinforced that habit is a fellow that works for one of my clients. The poor guy hadn't noticed the issue with the pullback valve on his Tundra 5.7. That lead to a burned down engine. The cost of a reman delivered to my shop from a trusted Colorado engine builder was freakin' nuts. Firing that vehicle up to bring it into the shop for diagnosis, there was coolant flowing out the exhaust pipes. I promply shut it down and prepared an estimate.

The lobes direction was dead giveaway but you're right most ppl might think it's right due to the timing mark on sprocket.
